  • The oculomotor nerve is the third cranial nerve (CN III). CN III is a somatic motor nerve that supplies the levator palpebrae superioris (including sympathetic fibers to Müller muscle), and most of the extraocular muscles (EOM) (superior rectus, medial rectus, inferior rectus, and inferior oblique). It also supplies parasympathetic fibers to the ciliary (ciliaris) muscle (accommodation) and constrictor pupillae muscle (pupillary constriction or miosis). The oculomotor nerve motor nucleus and the Edinger-Wesphall nucleus are located in the midbrain (mesencephalon).

    The cavernous sinus situated on each side of the sphenoid bone in the middle cranial fossa having its insides divided by caverns it contains the folowwing frok superior to interior the oculomotor nerve, trochlear nerve, opthalmic nerve maxillary nerve, trigeminal ganglion these are on the lateral wall on the medual aspect there is internal carotid and abducent nerve

    the muscvles which pull eye down and out are superior oblique and lateral rectus .
    this is seen in cn 3 palsy wherein there is paralysis of all muscles of eye except superior oblique and lateral rectus.
    so these muscles will make the eye look down and abduct.
    as for the second question it is trochlear nerve.

    Amazing amazing!! Just one question. I thought that corneal reflex is 5,7. So how come it’s in the midbrain?

    At 22:55 you’re describing the “balls” on the tegmentum but they’re not on the diagram, at least in how I’m seeing it, and when you were describing their functions it seemed like you were referring to the tectum with the cursor. Also you gave the function of the medial geniculate body but in none of the previous videos was it mentioned, is there a prerequisite course/playlist I should take before continuing with neuroanatomy? Thanks!

    If you damage both of the cunei (2xCuneus) then why do you get macular sparing if the reason you usually do is because you have coverage from the ipsilateral and contralateral side?

    • @NK-jy3lh
      @NK-jy3lh Год назад +2

      @matthewherman5608..macular fibres relay at the tip of visual cortex which is supplied by middle cerebral artery.
      So there will be macular sparing in PCA stroke which effects visual cortex.
      If tip of visual cortex is effected which can be due to trauma or any other causes..then we will get defect in the macular field called cookie cutter defect.
      I don't know accurately whether it's right or not but I have read it somewhere.
