    Great video series mate.!
    I loved it..
    Have you seen the upcoming Carisma M48 Audi Quattro.?
    I was really close to ordering their Subaru version, but after seeing the Audi I'm definitely going to wait for it.!
    They're expected around May here in the UK.
    They've obviously realised the error of their ways & fitted a larger motor & a 3S ESC & the price is still £289.!
    They've just re-released their M40 1/10 scale with (I think) exactly the same motor & ESC as the M48, it certainly runs the same diffs.!
    Stay safe out there mate & the very best wishes from Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🙏 ❤️ 📻 🕹️ 🔋 🚗 🚖 🚕 🚔 🚚 🚙 🚘 🚓 🚒 🚑 🚐 🚎 🚤 🚁 🛩️ 👍 👍

      @alantaylor353 Great comment👍 Appreciate the support. I saw the Audi version. Looks really good. I'm surprised in the quick change Carisma did to improve the electronics. Most companies would have waited until the next revision before doing something like that. I commend Carisma for stepping up💪

    for me you're right in scores wr8 looks most balanced even if you can power slides whole day. carisma need not only esc but also better motor and it will rip as good as hpi. cen is a rocket not a rally car, hard to get any steering/grip because raw power. Great video!

  • @alantaylor353
    @alantaylor353 7 месяцев назад +1

    I'd say you got that about right..
    The Cen should've been the equal of the WR8, especially for the £430 price, it really needs a centre diff imo...
    I'm glad I've waited to see what guys like yourself have got to say about it before buying one.
    I'm definitely going for the M48, but I'm waiting for the new Audi Quattro version with its larger motor & 3S ESC.!!

    If the wrs had the electronics from the wr8, would that have changed anything?

    • @ReadySetRC
      @ReadySetRC  8 месяцев назад

      @andrewcaldrewood2387 It may have made it worse. There is some limited tunability that adding that much power may negate the performance.

    I am disappointed in the Cen puma. I really want the car but I did not know and just assumed it had a slipper/ center diff like most all 1/8 vehicles. The small Chinese cars are mostly direct drive. Maybe they will change on v2 or offer us a kit to put in it if there is room. I really like everything else about the Puma. For 459.00 it needs to be similar to its competitors on form and function.

    • @ReadySetRC
      @ReadySetRC  7 месяцев назад

      @kevincain6843 RIGHT! I would have taken a slipper but to have the same setup and some of the smaller RC's in the market makes no sense. I feel they are going to drop and optional center diff, just not sure when.

    • @kevincain6843
      @kevincain6843 7 месяцев назад

      @@ReadySetRC I sure hope so. I really like the looks and design of it. The smaller cars can get by with direct drive because they are light. 10th scale on up can be a different matter. Breaking diffs. I know rally cars don't do high jumps and skate parks as a rule but still concerned about unnecessary stress on the gears.

    Can you give your thoughts on traxxas rally vs wr8? Would most likely put upgraded brushless motor/esc in both later on, worried the traxxas rally will feel too similar to slash which I'm not a fan of.

    • @ReadySetRC
      @ReadySetRC  8 месяцев назад +1

      @CodyTheMan23 My mind can't process the comparison😊 They drive and feel so much different. It's like comparing a 1/10 touring (HPI Sport3) car to an Infraction. Alternatives to the Traxxas Rally are going to be the Maverick Rally car and the ZD Racing Rally. Size is the same and the prices is going to come in a little bit lower. Never driven the Maverick Rally but I have driven the race truck. Really good RC. For the ZD Racing I drove the Hobbyking Basher Rally, pretty much same car as the ZD Racing. Not sure who I would give the nod to though. I have separate vids of all three if you got a minute to check them out.

      @@ReadySetRC thanks for thoughts, ended up getting an arma typon 6s. Seems like a good platform for rally conversion. For my use I'm afraid the wr8 might be a little small.

    Hello Readyset, It was evident that the WR8 would get the Gold, from what I have seen during this shoot out, not taking in the first few runs with the WR8, just this shoot-out. It performed a lot better as far as scale rally car. The Puma is faster but I think it was designed just for speed for on road and not for a dirt track. You did a awesome job on this shoot-out thanks for sharing your thoughts on each one of these RC.💥💥💥💥💥💥👍👍

    Yeah, there was definitely some bias in the score. Fortunately instead of just throwing out opinions you actually took the cars out and ran them. That actually gave me the info I wanted. I understand you wanting a car that powerslides out of the box, and I get that. It's also a matter of how the car is set up to run on what surface... I have no doubt that with a little tweaking that you could have gotten the Puma to powerslide as well. But giving two gold and going straight to bronze? Yeah, that's pretty biased.
    My score?
    Carisma: Because you had to replace the ESC right off the bat AND that you had a tire fall off while running while the others didn't = automatic bronze for quality and the off-road portion. Sorry, but the quality just doesn't impress me, nor does the layout. Even though it is the least expensive of the bunch, at the price point it is being offered at, it should hold together better than that. On-road was good but not great. Overall I see that one as the Bronze.
    CEN: Fastest and best handling of the bunch on-road. I know you wanted the powerslides, but my opinion is if you want a drift car, get a drift car. That's not what these are about. Off-road capability, to me it's push between this one and the HPI. This one is still faster, the HPI was more sure-footed, so it evens out. For build quality and features, I also liked this one the best. However both this car and the HPI are equipped with Hobbywing components so that's also a push.
    HPI: This one definitely has the reputation and racing history behind it. Functionally the differences between this one and the CEN are so small that if they were priced the same, I would say flip a coin. But they aren't priced the same... I found a place that sells the CEN for $149, so that's a $50 price differential. At the price range these cars are selling at that's not that much, BUT it's not minuscule either.
    So with price ultimately as the deciding factor,, I would actually give the Gold to the CEN ,and the Silver to the HPI. However I will qualify that and say it also depends on where and how you intend to drive the cars. A short off-road track and the HPI is going to rule. An on-road course that would allow the car to stretch it's legs, the CEN is going to dominate.
    Incidentally, as far as I'm concerned ALL of the above cars have crap radios and they would all be getting replaced with a better unit that included a gyro in the receiver.
    Regardless, than k you for doing this and putting this video together... It helps to put things in perspective.

    Actually, even better - the real champ would be the nitro wr8! I have both the electric amd nitro versions - although less convenient, without the motor/batteries its a bit lighter lighter and actually handles better and more realistically. Imo it makes sense as the chassis and suspension was originally designed for nitro.

    I don’t necessarily agree with the conclusion regarding the Carisma……the only thing that “surprises” me is how bad it is. Seems like a lower quality platform that needs an immediate esc and motor (+ motor mount) upgrade just to be competitive (and fun).
    But overall, an informative shootout for anybody curious about rally!

    I think you got it right as I trust your opinions. I am surprised you dug the Carisma more than the CEN but you validate why really well. Do you know by chance how close they are in weight? I am guessing the HPI is the heaviest since I have that and the CEN. Great series and lots of fun Neil!

      @fogcityrc4874 Hey Joh, thanks brother💪 The M48S is the feather weight😆 In the hand the Puma and the WR8 don't feel much off but I would lean to the WR8 being the heaviest.

    Spot on scoring brother! It’s puzzling to me that Cen omitted the center diff on the Puma! Especially since there is a spot for a center diff. They obviously considered adding one in production🤷🏻‍♂️ but real rally cars have a center diff. Having a tunable diff in the center is detrimental to rally car handling. From photos it appears the spur in the Puma would bolt up to the diff case in the front or rear. I’ve considered getting a Puma and trying that mod. Great video Neal!

    • @wild.oscillator
      @wild.oscillator 8 месяцев назад +1

      The FIA removed center diff from 2022 WRC...eg the real Puma doesn't have one either.
      ruclips.net/video/-mbCJecCDr8/видео.htmlsi=Nm7BclgzwPEf935_
      Conversely, though I think Subaru had active rear diffs in their 97 rally Impreza, they may have had locked centers (inter ested if anyone knows more about the specs of that era Subaru WRC car)

    • @krlaturn
      @krlaturn 8 месяцев назад

      @@wild.oscillator I was not aware the 2022 hybrids went cheap and removed the center diffs. I guess you learn somthing everyday. the pre 2022 4wd rally cars predominatley had center diffs. And yes, all Subarus had them, even the consumer grade production cars. its funny. I have Codemasters WRC on PS5 and the WRC2 Hybrids handle terrible. I went into settings and there is no center diff to adjust.. But I guess Cen got it right. terrible handling and all..

    • @wild.oscillator
      @wild.oscillator 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@krlaturn I'm a little foggy on when they went from locked diffs to active diffs - what they had in 97 is probably closer to what RC cars have then anything super fancy so I'm guessing the Carisna Subaru is probably a decent representation

    • @ReadySetRC
      @ReadySetRC  8 месяцев назад

      @krlaturn Hey brother, yeah not sure why they did not put that in from the start. Little odd to make it an upgrade item if it get's released. I'm waiting on CEN to release their hopups to see the list. I think I'll end up buying everything, LOL.
