Chinese spy balloon spying on the US was shot down by a F-22 Raptor over North America after the high-altitude surveillance balloon was traversing the country for a week.
The interception marks the first known and documented air-to-air kill of the F-22 Raptor and this even over U.S. soil.

Fun fact: the callsigns of the two F-22's that shot down that balloon were "Frank 1" and "Frank 2" in honor of Frank Luke. He was an American WWI pilot who shot down 4 aircraft and 14 German balloons and dirigibles.
Technically, I think this is the first Haci video I’ve seen that had actual footage of a real air-to-air shootdown outside the testing range.

The F-22’s that were launched to shoot down the balloons used the call sign “Frank” as a nod to Frank Luke Jr., a WW1 ace who had shot down 14 German surveillance balloons during the war….and his nick name was “The Arizona Balloon Buster”…so not too far off @WomenSlayer69 😊

People use to fool F-22 that this plane is balloon killer and don’t do their job.
By the way, F22’s Aim-9X have locked on the tiny balloon which doesn’t have any engine.
This means that AIM-9X has incredible seeker that can even find the mere heat from the balloon’s electric parts.
It can lock on on everything

Most expensive jet ever made.... To take out a balloon.
The plane, while not used that much for its real purpose sadly, scared a whole generation of pilots.
Not knowing if it was around or not was probably kind of stressful in the 2000's. Yeah now people are not scared about the F22 anymore but they were, and that's a pretty good thing to have on your side I'd say.
It had every opportunity in Europe and middle east, yet at the start of Yugoslavian, Iraqi and Syrian conflicts it was loaded up on planes back to the US.
After the way it was dragged far from conflicts i thoroughly believe its just wundawaffe to scare enemies. It has no other combat tech besides radar and missiles. Other planes have radar, infrared SAT and EW suites.
