That’s so much more work for the skier because the snowboarder can’t hop and get pulled at the same time. So you’re essentially just making the skier do all the work
This is where my skier friends would say “this is an example of why skiing is better” and to that I say it’s apart of the immersion and makes the experience better.
@SofieSillemannskiing is easier to learn and harder to master. It takes a lot more physical insurance to learn snowboarding. Typically the age for ski lessons at a mountain starts younger than snowboarding for that reason.

Use your nose and tail to bounce and get momentum, if it’s not to uphill u can do this and by the flex / pressure of the nose and tail it acts like a trampoline and u can bounce around using less energy.
That board is in desperate need of wax, big time. A fresh wax job and that would have been a hop or two and glide away. And it's sometimes much simpler and faster to just undo the back binding instead of trying to hop
1) Face forward like a skier 2) apply pressure on your nose while leaning forward from right shoulder 3) pop off of nose, land on tail, apply same pressure to tail lean forward on left shoulder pop off of tail then repeat. This is generally unnecessary. You'll gain speed if you get above down
Nah the worst is when you are approaching a flat area where you KNOW you need to maintain speed, and catching a damn edge just before it. It doesn't happen to me much anymore but when I was still in learning it would happen constantly, and I would always let out a frustrated loud curse.
My friends & I love snowboarding much more but unless we’re out w skiers we usually switch off on being the skier & the tugboat lol it pays to know how to do both well!
For any beginner, learn how to penguin walk and how to pump with your edges to generate speed. Get that with your fundamentals and this will never happen to you again
That's the second worst part. First worst is when you're going down a trail and get to a long flat stretch and come to a stop... and then you have to un-clip and skate for a good 2 minutes before you get to slope again.
I don’t I got the clew bindings and never have had to do that since. If anything I just pull my right foot out and start pushing than step back in while I’m sliding. Also if you don’t have step on bindings the easiest way to walk with you board is to twist your waist left to right. Which will essentially twist your legs and you’ll move faster that way. It is an ab workout though if you do it a lot.
I will genuinely unstrap my back foot & skate before I ever waste my energy doing this😂 too many side hits to go bust my ass on, no point an exerting myself any further lmao.
The only time this happened to me is on the flats at my local mountain during the end of the season when it was sunny and semi slushy out, but even then I’d either penguin walk or just skate the rest of the way
Snowboarding above the clouds like that is both beautiful and terrifying. I remember snowboarding in New Hampshire and feeling like I was somehow going to “fall off” the mountain but that edge right there beside her? Looks insane. It’s definitely a fear of heights thing for me. Still loved snowboarding every time I did it. Wish I still went. Anyone know where this mountain is?
Yeah, swift to skiing. I did after 17 seasons snowboarding and wish I had switched 5 years earlier. Bindings that detach, two planes of control, 4 edges, 2 poles, you can skate uphill, traversing is easier, AT bindings, skinning uphill, default travel mode faces fall line, etc… the list goes on and on.
When I go down one of my mountains, there is just like really big dip that leads straight into this old hotel. I’ve always always been like OK. OK do not fall.
Learn how to paddle walk. You compress the tail, pop to the nose and repeat. Turtle walk, penguin walk, all the same thing. Also, wax your board for the right conditions. Looks like you don't have cold wax in your base.
Thats one of the reasons i have step on bindings But in powder i hate the bindigns bc if I take my board of for something i can’t get in anymore if there is too much snow in the binding
1.fresh wax.
2.penguin walk.
3.skate damn you.
4.have skier friends.
Perfect ^
Having a Skier friend is the correct answer .
@@dbrockme Nah, push harder on top 3 :-) and you don't need friends

just penguin walk. It was one of the first additional things i learnt after finishing all basics. Quick and easy ground travel is a blessing
Penguin does not work for climbing

@Oleg K There's not a slope there at least that i can tell. Even if there is a slight incline, that doesn't mean you wouldn't be able to.
That's why if you have skies you don't just stand there and film a TikTok. You help them out by dragging them with your poles
Respect ❤️ I love when everyone on the mountain just helps out whoever needs it no matter what they ride 👍
No, you made your choice, I made mine.
why is it their job to drag them. they made the choice to snowboard
That’s so much more work for the skier because the snowboarder can’t hop and get pulled at the same time. So you’re essentially just making the skier do all the work
OOOOOOR they can just clip out ffs
the ultimate penguin wak left the chat
My thoughts😅
I'm trying to learn it but I'm not good at it yet 😭
Penguin walk should be the first thing people learn when snowboarding lmaooo

I get it happens. But can tell that board needs a fresh wax.
Just got to harness your inner toy story army soldier
A true shredder don't know this struggle😜✌️
Thanks I was looking for the first person who actually can snowboard 😂

Whats even worse is when youre going really slow and you get stuck on an edge lol
Yep.. ass over teakettle in the slowest and most embarrassing way possible.
Especially when you have crappy bindings, and it looses them
Penguin walk out, crazy frog in.
Never knew that struggle. Either penguin walk or strap in by the downhill slope instead if you haven’t figured out the penguin walk yet.
Doesn't really work on long flat traverses (typical in the Alps, maybe it's different in the states)
My solution is Burton step-on bindings. Any situation similar to this I reach down pull the lever, step out and skate to where I will slide downhill, then I just step back on and go. It's rare to in

Not straight but sideways I mean lol
Unclip one leg and go for it... just that easy. I don't understand why there are so mich people put there struggling to overthink their possibilities
Its like skiers who dont ‘skate’ on the flat parts, and just push themselves forward with their poles lol
Not the gallop 💀
Lol this is me and my girlfriend.
GF: pull me with your pole.
Me: nope, you chose this life.
That's when it comes handy to have fellas with skis and you can borrow their poles or at least one 😄
Penguin walk is also pretty exhausting lol
Im exhausted watching and my muscles hurt😂😂😂
That board is in desperate need of wax, big time. A fresh wax job and that would have been a hop or two and glide away. And it's sometimes much simpler and faster to just undo the back binding instead of trying to hop
Skis are the superior traversal platform but i do love my awkward hops
1) Face forward like a skier
2) apply pressure on your nose while leaning forward from right shoulder
3) pop off of nose, land on tail, apply same pressure to tail lean forward on left shoulder pop off of tail then repeat.
This is generally unnecessary.
You'll gain speed if you get above down
This is why Burton Step-in bindings changed my whole snowboard game. Literally zero effort to clip in or out
Nah the worst is when you are approaching a flat area where you KNOW you need to maintain speed, and catching a damn edge just before it. It doesn't happen to me much anymore but when I was still in learning it would happen constantly, and I would always let out a frustrated loud curse.
Or someone cuts you off out of the trees or merging. Or when skiers are just having a picnic in the middle of a cat track.
Classic event getting to walk 150 yards with a sore ass and a bad mood
Yeah but thats just the beginning. I rarely catch a edge anymore from just riding. Im scared at jumps still tho 😂 cant even do 360
“every snowboarder” 😂 anyone else feel like this doesn’t apply to them??
Everyone’s been there at some point. Surely you’ve gotten stuck on a cat track during a pow day
IKR this happened to me countless times
I've never snowboarded and seen the clouds like that! That's damn high! Bucket list!

Thank goodness my friend taught me how to penguin walk when I first started snowboarding

How long is the chairlift?
As someone who fell flat on their face doing the waddle, I still wouldn't gallop like a horse to get going. 😂
I can confidently say I have mastered the penguin walk
That's when you grab your friends ski pole and make them drag you😂

the worst thing is skiers stepping on your board in the ski lift que.

It's true I always clip in to far from the slope. The perfect spot to clip in is right at the edge to where your about to slide down the slope
