    -look down or at an angle
    -rotate stomach side to side per each stroke (to prevent shoulder injuries)
    -kick from hips with straight , not bent legs
    -pull straight during your breath break
    -don’t breathe late and breathe out slowly

    This video will make you think you've learned how to swim already, but the pool will say otherwise later.

      Absolutely. I do well in 6 feet of water ...but listening of 12 feet or diving in it crates so much panic that it seems that my heart has stopped beating or I will die surely.

    Freestyle is probably as difficult as learning the piano...and I've done both!
    Breathing, kicking, turning, rotating, center of balance....etc. I've been swimming for many years but still have so much to learn - like the piano!!!

    My main problem is that I run out of breath after the first lap and I already need to take a break to breath, meanwhile everyone around me just keep going and going non stop like it's no big deal, and I'm just trying not to pass out.
    when I try to swim slower to reduce intensity, It becomes harder not to sink. I need some serious tips

    • @9w2mnr
      @9w2mnr 10 лет назад +25

      try reduce paddling the legs, it won't sink if we less paddling. try to put increase on hands see if there a difference

    Thank you for this. I am 55 years old and just learned to swim about 2 years ago in adult swimming lessons. I swim 3-4 times a week now and although some individuals at the pool say I have gotten so much better and faster there is always room for improvement. I noticed from your video about swimming flat and I do have that habit and believe it or not...just like you said...I've had some problems out of my left shoulder. I thought I must be catching the water too hard, but this makes me realize I wasn't rotating.

    I'm 20 and going through beginner's swimming lessons now and I agree; my biggest problem is that I can't breathe properly without swallowing water. I too had no idea body rotation was necessary; I'm guessing my swim instructor is saving it for a future lesson since I am learning from scratch. I too need to work on my confidence to actually go to my pool alone and amongst all the elite swimmers who train there. Good luck learning how to swim!

      Recent thoughts are contrary to this, the power is from the palm and wrist, keep the fingers open. This sources power in the latissimus area rather than the shoulders, shortens the fulcrum, takes the strain off those shoulder joints. try it, you will feel a difference.

    I've swum for many years, and I was taken aback when my swimming instructor told me that my pull wasn't good enough. According to him, my hands were too close to my body while I pulled. As a result, I wasn't sliding as much as I should. He told me to watch some videos, and I stumbled upon this one, which is really very, very instructive. I'm sharing it.

    I am 34. I had my first lessons this year as I have a severe phobia of water. I couldn't have my daughters able to swim better than me at 4 and 7 years of age. Apparently I am a great learner despite the fact that I find it hard to cope with the fear. My biggest problem was breathing in freestyle. I had no idea about body rotation and I think that this is the key to getting my rotation to allow me to breathe as I freestyle. Now I need to develop the courage to get in the pool alone and try it...

    We've got a guy in our swim lesson group about your age with similar fears. After about 4 lessons he is really starting to enjoy it. Total immersion has some drills (eg. "superman glide")that will get you used to being in the water. If you wish, try using fins (at first) - or a kickboard. Don't worry about trying to do"laps" just yet. The fun part is that if you stick at it you will notice progress every time you visit the pool. Just set small goals at first - this will keep you going !

    1
    00:00:06,190 --> 00:00:13,770
    While many swimmers feel that freestyle is the easiest stroke to learn, it can be the most difficult stroke to master.
    자유형이 배우기에 가장 쉬운 영법이라고 느끼지만, 숙달하기에는 가장 어려운 영법일 수도 있습니다.
    2
    00:00:13,940 --> 00:00:21,320
    This iSport lesson will show you ways to improve your freestyle by pointing out
    the strokes' most common slipups.
    이번 iSport 강좌에서는 자유형에서 가장 흔한 실수들을 열거함으로써 자유형 영법을 향상시킬 수 있는 방법을 보여드리겠습니다.
    3
    00:00:23,840 --> 00:00:28,580
    One of the most common freestyle mistakes is looking forward as you swim.
    가장 흔한 자유형 실수 중의 하나는 헤엄치는 동안 앞을 바라보는 것입니다.
    4
    00:00:29,440 --> 00:00:34,920
    In order to align your spine correctly you must fight the urge to look toward the wall.
    척주를 바르게 정렬시키기 위해서는 수로 끝에 있는 벽을 보려는 충동을 억제해야 합니다.
    5
    00:00:36,260 --> 00:00:39,820
    If you look forward, your hips drop in the water.
    앞쪽을 보면, 엉덩이는 물 속으로 가라앉게 됩니다.
    6
    00:00:40,600 --> 00:00:42,980
    This forces your spine to curve.
    그래서 척주가 휘어지게 되고.
    7
    00:00:43,340 --> 00:00:45,060
    It releases your core.
    아랫몸통 근육이 느슨해집니다.
    8
    00:00:45,500 --> 00:00:48,260
    And it adds resistance in the water
    그래서 물속에서 저항이 더해지게 됩니다.
    9
    00:00:49,320 --> 00:00:50,640
    To fix this;
    이를 고치려면;
    10
    00:00:50,900 --> 00:00:53,961
    Look down toward the black line at the bottom of the pool.
    수영장 바닥에 있는 까만(파란) 선을 내려다 보십시요.
    11
    00:00:54,920 --> 00:00:59,200
    Relax your neck, and you'll feel your hips rise toward the surface.
    목의 긴장을 푸십시요, 엉덩이가 수면을 향해 떠오르는 것을 느끼게 될 것입니다.
    12
    00:01:00,040 --> 00:01:05,140
    If looking straight down makes you feel uneasy, try looking forward at an angle.
    바로 아래를 보는 것이 불편하다면, 비스듬하게 앞을 보려고 해보세요.
    13
    00:01:05,560 --> 00:01:09,760
    You'll still be looking at the black line but slightly in front of you.
    여전히 까만(파란) 선을, 하지만 약간 앞 쪽을 보고 있게 됩니다.
    14
    00:01:11,700 --> 00:01:18,220
    Another common issue is swimming flat, meaning your stomach always faces the bottom of the pool.
    몸통 좌우 돌리기 없이, 즉 배꼽이 항상 수영장 바닥을 향해 있으면서, 헤엄치는 것입니다.
    15
    00:01:18,900 --> 00:01:23,960
    You should however be rotating from side to side as you swim.
    자유형을 할 때는 몸통을 좌우로 돌리면서 헤엄쳐야 합니다.
    16
    00:01:24,920 --> 00:01:31,960
    Swimming flat can lead to serious shoulder injuries, including tendonitis and rotator cuff issues.
    몸통 좌우 돌리기 없이 헤엄치는 것은, 건염, 회전 근개 파열 등... 심각한 어깨 부상을 불러올 수 있습니다.
    17
    00:01:32,940 --> 00:01:34,140
    To fix this;
    이를 교정하기 위해서는;
    18
    00:01:34,660 --> 00:01:37,840
    Rotate your body as you take each stroke.
    팔을 저을 때 마다 몸통을 돌리십시요.
    19
    00:01:38,540 --> 00:01:46,780
    As you reach out in front of you on your stroke, extend your arm all the way until you feel your body rotate to the side.
    되돌리는 팔이 앞쪽으로 갈 때, 몸통이 옆으로 돌아가는 것을 느낄 때까지 팔을 쭉 뻗으세요.
    20
    00:01:47,420 --> 00:01:50,940
    This should cause your other shoulder to roll out of the water.
    이로 인해 반대편 어깨가 물 위로 드러날 때까지 몸통을 돌려야 합니다.
    21
    00:01:51,640 --> 00:01:57,820
    Your bellybutton should be pointing more toward the side of the pool than the black line on the bottom.
    배꼽은 바닥의 검정 선이 아니라 수영장 옆 쪽 벽을 향해야 합니다.
    22
    00:01:59,720 --> 00:02:04,380
    Bending your knees while kicking is another problem many swimmers make.
    무릎을 구부리고 차는 것 또한 많은 사람들이 저지르는 실수입니다.
    23
    00:02:05,240 --> 00:02:09,280
    Bent knees do not propel you efficiently in the water.
    무릎이 굽어지면, 물속에서 효과적으로 밀지 못합니다.
    24
    00:02:09,900 --> 00:02:15,840
    It actually takes a lot of effort and creates resistance, making it quite exhausting
    실제로는 노력만 많이 들고, 저항을 일으키게 되어, 많이 지치게 됩니다.
    25
    00:02:16,980 --> 00:02:21,000
    Instead, kick from the hips and keep your legs straight.
    그러지 말고, 엉덩이로부터 차면서 다리는 곧게 유지하십시요.
    26
    00:02:21,860 --> 00:02:27,520
    Keeping your kicks small and fast will make it easier to straighten your legs.
    작고 빠르게 차는 것을 유지해야, 다리를 곧게 뻗는 것이 쉬워집니다.
    27
    00:02:28,720 --> 00:02:33,800
    And quite possibly the most common mistake in freestyle is pulling crooked.
    자유형에서 아마도 가장 흔한 실수는 비뚤배뚤 젓는 것일 것입니다.
    28
    00:02:34,480 --> 00:02:42,060
    As they pull, swimmers often weather hand under their belly and point their fingertips toward the wall.
    종종 손을 배 아래쪽으로 저으면서 손가락 끝을 벽 쪽으로 향하곤 합니다.
    29
    00:02:42,640 --> 00:02:46,760
    The trajectory on this pull slips a ton of water.
    이런 식의 궤도를 그리면서 저으면 많은 물을 놓치게 됩니다.
    30
    00:02:47,110 --> 00:02:50,290
    This happens most often as a swimmer breathes.
    이 현상은 숨을 쉴 때 가장 자주 일어납니다.
    31
    00:02:50,660 --> 00:02:57,140
    If this happens to you, watch your hand as you pull and pay attention to your fingertips are pointing.
    만약 당신에게도 이런 일이 일어난다면, 저을 때 손을 보면서 손가락 끝이 향하는 방향에 주의하십시요.
    32
    00:02:57,760 --> 00:03:01,500
    They should be pointing straight down toward the bottom of the pool.
    손가락 끝은 똑바로 수영장 바닥을 향해야 합니다.
    33
    00:03:02,220 --> 00:03:06,320
    During your breath, think about pulling straight and feeling for it.
    숨쉬는 동안, 똑바르게 저을 것을 생각하고, 그렇게 하고 있는 지 느끼려고 노력하십시요.
    34
    00:03:06,700 --> 00:03:10,360
    If you're having trouble, ask someone to watch you.
    잘 안되면, 주변사람에게 봐달라고 부탁하십시요.
    35
    00:03:11,060 --> 00:03:13,560
    They can point out what they've seen.
    그 사람이 본대로 말해줄 수 있을 것입니다.
    36
    00:03:15,890 --> 00:03:22,670
    And lastly breathing late is another common mistake because it can affect your entire stroke.
    마지막으로 늦게 숨쉬는 것도, 전체 영법에 영향을 끼치므로, 흔한 실수라 할 수 있습니다.
    37
    00:03:23,520 --> 00:03:28,240
    Many swimmers start their breath after their hand exits the water.
    많은 사람들이 손이 물에서 벗어난 다음에 숨쉬기 시작합니다.
    38
    00:03:28,880 --> 00:03:31,720
    It is very hard to balance in this position.
    이 자세에서는 균형 잡기가 매우 어렵습니다.
    39
    00:03:32,200 --> 00:03:34,780
    This can also cause you to swallow water.
    또한 물을 먹게 되기도 합니다.
    40
    00:03:35,580 --> 00:03:40,280
    If you have this problem, overcompensate by trying to breathe early.
    이 문제가 있을 때는, 반대로 일찍 숨쉬려고 하세요.
    41
    00:03:41,640 --> 00:03:46,560
    As soon as your hand enters the water for your pull, start your breath.
    반대쪽 손이 물속에 들어가기 시작하자마자, 숨쉬기 시작하십시요.
    42
    00:03:47,260 --> 00:03:55,400
    To keep your breath quick, roll your head back into the water as soon as your hand exits the water during your recovery.
    숨을 짧게 하기 위해, 되돌리기 위해 손이 물에서 나가자마자, 머리를 돌려 물속에 집어넣으세요.
    43
    00:03:56,520 --> 00:04:00,480
    All of these freestyle mistakes are common, but very fixable.
    설명드린 자유형 실수들은 흔하지만, 쉽게 고칠 수 있습니다.
    44
    00:04:01,400 --> 00:04:06,220
    Once you identify what you can work on, just concentrate on that aspect of your stroke.
    일단 교정해야할 것을 확인했다면, 영법에서 그 부분에만 집중하십시요.
    45
    00:04:07,620 --> 00:04:13,740
    Practicing each aspect of your stroke properly will invite good habits into your muscle memory.
    영법에 있어 각각의 측면을 올바르게 연습하여 가면, 근육 기억 속에 올바른 습성들을 심게 됩니다.
    46
    00:04:15,240 --> 00:04:18,780
    Here's a review of how to fix your freestyle stroke.
    자유형 영법을 교정하기 위한 방법들을 다시 확인해보겠습니다.
    47
    00:04:19,120 --> 00:04:21,440
    1. look toward the bottom of the pool.
    1. 수영장 바닥을 향해 내려다 보십시요.
    48
    00:04:22,660 --> 00:04:24,780
    2. Rotate as you swim.
    2. 헤엄치는 동안 몸통을 좌우로 돌리십시요.
    49
    00:04:25,880 --> 00:04:28,700
    3. Keep your legs straight on your kick.
    3. 차는 동안 다리를 곧게 유지하세요.
    50
    00:04:29,700 --> 00:04:32,780
    4. Point your fingertips downward on your pull.
    4. 팔을 저을 때는 손가락 끝이 수영장 바닥으로 향하게 하세요.
    51
    00:04:33,400 --> 00:04:35,040
    5. And breathe early.
    5. 숨을 일찍 쉬세요.

    I'm 37 when I started learning freestyle (usually only breaststroke). It took me 1-2 months to master breathing on one side, and another month to master bilateral breathing. I usually learn by myself and swim alone. Never give up!

    Thanks for an excellent video. I notice that as she swims, there is a big lag between one stroke and the next. There is a moment when both hands are in front. Is this just for demonstration purposes, or should the strokes not overlap? Maybe not overlap to help with form, then go to overlap?

    Wow, thanks for endorsing the things I managed to figure out myself since I got back into swimming after a decades-long break. Actually, it's the first time I've taken my swimming seriously. In addition to the points in the video, one other thing I try to do is to synchronise my kicks with my arms. I do big, full-leg kicks and they seem to sync well with the opposite limb, so as my right arm comes over, I kick with my left leg. In other words, their rhythm is the same. I'm sure this makes a huge difference, but would be interested to hear if that makes sense to any swimming coaches out there.

    Just another tip, which I even notice in this tutorial. Freestylers should have bent elbows when their arm is above the water. Straight arm swimming (Which is what it is called when a swimmers arm is straight when recovering above water), for most people, creates problems and makes you go slower.
