  • In a surveillance video, Jamal Rutledge, 17, is seen in handcuffs shouting for help after officer Franklin Foulks collapsed from an apparent heart attack. Rutledge's calls for help prompted officers to rush in and use an automated external defibrillator to save Foulks' life. Dr. Jon LaPook reports on the life saving tactics.

Some people are complaining about how they wanted to see the young man honored. Not to learn how to work an AED. But, should something like this happen where you are, you are going to be glad you learned how to work one of those things. It can save your life and somebody else’s. Also, the young man did the right thing.

If you're worried about hurting someone with an AED, remember, they're already dead, they can't get any more hurt than that, shock them. More importantly, I hope that kid is doing well now, and he should feel proud of himself. Many would have just sat there.
