- In a surveillance video, Jamal Rutledge, 17, is seen in handcuffs shouting for help after officer Franklin Foulks collapsed from an apparent heart attack. Rutledge's calls for help prompted officers to rush in and use an automated external defibrillator to save Foulks' life. Dr. Jon LaPook reports on the life saving tactics.

Steven Hickman He saved his life by letting officers know right away rather than sit there salty because he was arrested and let that officers heart stop. Don’t try to discredit what this young man did.

That is so not the way to say it. More like let’s hope the cop tries to save the boy now. That’s a grown man compared to that young man. He need direction, correction, and satisfaction. That gesture shows that he isnt a bad kid....he did the right thing and showed compassion...good story...too and they didn't interview the teen.

I am a medical student I learned how to use the CPR routine. People see him as a hero but he just saved a person life. Hero or not just saving a person life means everything.

please stop saying that the heart is stopped and then you shock it. If the heart isn't pumping, you do CPR. Only a certain rhythm is shockable.
wasteIander the AED will make a judgement on if the shock is needed once it’s stuck to a patients chest it does initiate a shock if it will help

Some people are complaining about how they wanted to see the young man honored. Not to learn how to work an AED. But, should something like this happen where you are, you are going to be glad you learned how to work one of those things. It can save your life and somebody else’s. Also, the young man did the right thing.

If you're worried about hurting someone with an AED, remember, they're already dead, they can't get any more hurt than that, shock them. More importantly, I hope that kid is doing well now, and he should feel proud of himself. Many would have just sat there.
