Totally agree on the toilet man. Best advice ever. Plus, JMHO, but I think that maybe because some Everest mountaineers proudly climb without canned oxygen, folks think the equivalent is climbing Kilimanjaro without Diamox. It's a daily pill (you actually begin taking a day or two in advance) and it's a pill which helps you acclimatize. I got to Uhuru at 52 years old in Aug, 2012 with the aid of Diamox.. I was down at the hotel, and I saw two young germans, apparently in great shape, but sadly hadn't summitted for the second time. I didn't ask about Diamox, but my guess is, they wanted to do it without Diamox and they had to try again. Again, JMHO.
I was born in Tanzania and I've always wanted to climb Kilimanjaro ❤️ my grandfather did it a few times. Problem is that I'm really not a fit person so climbing it is my goal for 2022 😀🇹🇿
Hi Jina. I'm planning on going this October using the Marangu route, as well. 1st timer here to Africa. Can you give any input about what to expect? Appreciate it. Thank you.
@@gayem6881 Great experience over all. One of the hardest thing I've ever done in my life but well worth it. Drink plenty of water and bring extra snacks that is packed with calories. You will need them. If you are sleeping inside the hut, one thing that I wish I has was a pillow case. As you know, porters carry most of the stuffs for you plus pillow case won't weight much. Planning has started for a trip in October(ish) timeframe. Your videos and others have served to motivate the hell out of me. Thank you! Very cool, they have covid testing setup for post-hike. Can't get back into the states without it lol. #mybiggestworry
@@BottomLineUpFront That was my biggest concern but some research has revealed they have testing setup immediately once you come off the mountain. To fly you have to have a negative test within 72 hrs of departure or you're stuck like chuck.
We actually didn’t do any additional training other than our normal fitness routine. We did make a single trip out to Colorado to snowboard on some mountains with thin air, coming from sea level in Florida will definitely cause you to gasp for air when you’re at 19K feet!!
Do still have the plan to do kilimanjaro. You do not need massive preparation, for example you can 6 to 10 hours per day -3 days per week with the daypack of 10 kilogram .am kilimanjaro .
I’m from Seattle and was visiting Kenya and Tanzania from Feb-April this year I visited Kilimanjaro but chickened out I’ll be returning next year in April hopefully I’ll have enough courage to climb this time
I'm supposed to be climbing in August for an all-women climb (celebrating Women's month in South Africa). I'm scared. I haven't trained as I should. I'm so scared. I cried at the end of this- thank you for this beautiful experience, for sharing it openly. Is it too late for me? I'm not fit at all.

Don't know why this was recommended, but I love the way this was filmed. I too hope some day to go to Kilimanjaro. I am afraid of heights, pretty badly, but of all the mountains in the world Kilimanjaro always seemed doable, like and ultimate conquering of my fear. Maybe I will maybe I won't, but I wouldn't mind having the chance someday.
Thanks very much for The vedio . I am from Florida and going to trek Kili in July . I am worried about the altitude as I have no mountains to climb for practice in Florida
@@BottomLineUpFront I am glad he made it all the way to the summit!! that seemed a little bit scary not having a functional shoe. Yes... we are doing Machame route for 7 days...it seems more scenic I believe!! I can't wait. What type of camera did you use for this? The clarity is impressive too!!

I took the Machame road in 5 days, the last day is very tiring and requires a very good physical condition. For the rest, it depends on your reaction to altitude. A movie is available on my RUclips channel, if you'r interested ^^
My friends and I are from Florida, too, but we've been thinking about attacking Kilimanjaro next summer! How tough was the altitude adjustment coming from basically sea level?
This video is fantastic. If the covid leaves, I hope to go to Tanzania this year, and maybe try the Kilimanjaro. I loved the video. Very human, with expressions, fears and real enthusiasm. I confess that I was also thrilled at the end. By the way ... for someone who has vertigo, but always tries to overcome their fear ... Do you think the route (closer to the end) can become "blocking"? Thanks
I think you'd be absolutely fine! Kili is the adventure of a lifetime, most people can accomplish it if they believe they can, and the uncertainty of the challenge is what made it rewarding. The last day to the summit is most definitely painful; just one foot in front of the other is the only way!
Well, I didn't know much about this trek and was not motivated to do it....Well now I am !!!! Can you tell me what the local outfitter that you used ? Looking into doing this trek for my retirement in 2 years. Great video !!!!!
That’s great to hear, I hope you go for it!! We booked with Sirikwa, a local company, much cheaper than the big companies (but just as good, in our opinion). Good luck!! ✌️
Ask that question to former NBC anchor, Ann Curry. In 2008, NBC sent her up Kilimanjaro unprepared. She got halfway there, deathly sick and almost died. It was a piece to show climate change affecting the glaciers on top of Kili. I saw a recent 2022 picture and the glaciers that were there when I summited in 2008 are still there.
My wife and I got married 4 days ago and we have been dreaming of Kilamanjaro since we've been together. Would you be willing to help us out with exactly how you found your trek and what gear you had to bring to Africa with you?
On subject of budget, did you use a KPAP affiliated company? My main concern is fair wages for the porters/guides/cooks rather than best deal but if you can get great value while ensuring fair wages I’m all ears!
We were concerned about that too. When we did our hike, Sirikwa was a member of KPAP. Since then, we’ve had a few people comment that they don’t see them on the website anymore, so we don’t really know what changed 😕
Amazing video, one of the best things you do is all tips and tricks. I like the idea of climbing with a local company, which company did you use and how did you Come in contact with it?
@@BottomLineUpFront thanks! Could you provide a breakdown of the gear they provided and the gear you brought yourself? Also did you see the crater/top of the volcano and touch the glaciers?
Awesome video thanks so much for sharing this, congrats! A question though, which month did you climb the mountain in? We're currently planning on doing the lemosho route in November, the short rainy season, and opinions on that are quite controversial. Thanks!
We climbed over New Years, we only had a day of light sprinkling rain, but our wet weather gear made it tolerable. I don’t think I would enjoy it as much if we had multiple days of rain, but an adventure can’t be planned too much and the struggle is part of the fun. We just prefer to struggle and be dry 😄
Yes, your guides will stay with you. Especially summit night/day. For example, say you’re in a group & you have 3 guides total (1 head guide, 2 assistant guides), if you need to turn around 1 guide will return with you and the other two guides continue & if more climbers need to turn around then one of the two guides who proceeded with the rest of the group will turn around. Happy hiking!
Anything that is a slow cardio muscle burn. Walking with a pack around the neighborhood, or put a treadmill on the highest incline and walk “up” for a couple hours. It’s definitely not a sprint, it’s all about slow and steady. The altitude is what gets most people, so we took a trip out to the mountains in the Midwest of America to get some experience at high elevations.
Hi Rachel, we climbed with Sirikwa. They’re one of the more budget options, but they gave us a pretty good experience and took care of us. Are you planning on climbing soon? Have you picked a route?

A movie is available on my RUclips channel, if you'r interested ^^
That’s a really tough route! Bet that last day was painful!! 😛
@@BottomLineUpFront Yep haha
Great video...thanks...I leave to try to summit next week 👣👣👣👣💙💜
Good luck with your climb, keep it pole pole!! ✌️
Have you tried yet?
Yes, how did it go??
My friends and I are from Florida, too, but we've been thinking about attacking Kilimanjaro next summer! How tough was the altitude adjustment coming from basically sea level?
You will winded / out of breath, but as long as you take it pole pole, all will be okay
@@BottomLineUpFront Thank you so much :)
I enjoyed ur video. Can I know the local co. U used? We wanna go in July. Thank you
Thank you! We used Sirikwa 😃
Good luck!! ✌️
@@BottomLineUpFront Great, thank you !!
What tour company did you use? I can't wait to do this! This is awesome
We used Sirikwa, though I think their rates have gone up and aren’t KPAP certified anymore 🧐
Absolutely! Shoot us a message on Facebook or Instagram and we can answer any questions you have! 😁
@@BottomLineUpFront will do. I appreciate it
Great video enjoyed very much, which time of the year you did it?
Late December
What outfitter in Arusha did you guys use?
Great video, thank you!
Thanks for watching! ✌️
Bottom Line Up Front Thank you. Good health!
Yay!! Floridians!! One of the hardest thing I find with hiking is the breathing.
Absolutely! All the more reason to go “pole pole” 😁
What was the name of the trucking company you used?
We used Sirikwa 👌
I want this in my life!!
No reason you can't get out there and do it! Make it a goal, set a year! 2021? 2022? Maybe even this year!
Great video... but who climbs a mountain in a pair of Nikes 🙈
Lessons learned the hard way, right!?
Not all heroes wear capes
I climbed Fuji in some Kobe’s can confirm would not recommend
Epic ✌️
No where near as impressive as Kilimanjaro but I walked up Scafel Pike in England in a pair of mid Nike Air Force 1s
Amazing video, one of the best things you do is all tips and tricks. I like the idea of climbing with a local company, which company did you use and how did you Come in contact with it?
We used Sirikwa, found them after a bit of research about local companies ✌🏻
Do you remember the local company you booked with? Did you book it online in advance?
We used Sirikwa, and yep, we booked ahead of time online!
@@BottomLineUpFront thanks! Could you provide a breakdown of the gear they provided and the gear you brought yourself? Also did you see the crater/top of the volcano and touch the glaciers?
@@HardeepSidhu You are mostly welcome to Tanzania
Hey, what was the tour operator that you went with?
What tour company did you use?
I’m in the process of looking into options for an outfitter. Which company did you use if you don’t mind sharing? Also, excellent practical video.
We used Sirikwa - a small local company, but I think they still have good rates compared to the bigger ones!
$1800... Is there other costs like tipping or additional costs???
I enjoyed the video!!!
They do allow you to tip at the end, but it’s up to you to decide how much. Overall, we thought it was a great price for what we got 😁
@@BottomLineUpFront What was the tour operator that you went with?
Awesome video thanks so much for sharing this, congrats! A question though, which month did you climb the mountain in? We're currently planning on doing the lemosho route in November, the short rainy season, and opinions on that are quite controversial. Thanks!
We climbed over New Years, we only had a day of light sprinkling rain, but our wet weather gear made it tolerable. I don’t think I would enjoy it as much if we had multiple days of rain, but an adventure can’t be planned too much and the struggle is part of the fun. We just prefer to struggle and be dry 😄
Hi just wondering what happens if you find you need to turn back? do u have a guide to support you? Thanks
@@BottomLineUpFront thanks so much
Which tour company u hired? can you let us know the name?
What's the name of the company you went with?
We used Sirikwa!
Brilliant video! What training do you recommend?
Anything that is a slow cardio muscle burn. Walking with a pack around the neighborhood, or put a treadmill on the highest incline and walk “up” for a couple hours. It’s definitely not a sprint, it’s all about slow and steady. The altitude is what gets most people, so we took a trip out to the mountains in the Midwest of America to get some experience at high elevations.
@@BottomLineUpFront thanks
Great video, what company did you climb with?
Hi Rachel, we climbed with Sirikwa. They’re one of the more budget options, but they gave us a pretty good experience and took care of us.
Are you planning on climbing soon? Have you picked a route?
Loved it thank you for sharing. What month did you climb
Thanks Paul Paul! We climbed at the end of December and actually celebrated NYE on the mountain!
Which Organisation did you „use“?
