Even his dogs look at him like what the fuck are you doing
His dog knows better than all the idiots here who defend him. I believe they are all his accounts, because no one can be that ignorant to see so many comments saying the guy is a fraud, and not realize he is.
As a Seven Star practitioner, that is not a seven star stance... this whole form is a joke. so many opportunities to strike you in your vital areas because you leave them wide open...
And last time I checked, a mantis doesn't have a beak.
This is why Karate stylists can't do Kung Fu forms. First. It's not a "Beak." Its a "Claw." The primary tool of Mantis Kung Fu is for the Mantis CLAW to trap and grab. I've never seen a Mantis poke it's prey with it's claws. Second. The Mantis system doesn't focus on pressure points of nerve endings. Those are covered in other animals. Third. There is no such thing as a "Mantis Kick." What was done could be classified as an outside crescent kick at best. Fourth. At about the 4:30 mark you cover a "transitional stance." This would be a cross-legged stance. However, the stance you're claiming to be well defined and need to accentuate is done incorrectly. If you spent 5 minutes in a Quan learning from a Sifu who was worth their salt and they were covering stance work in the Praying Mantis they would show you one of only 5 stances. The cross legged stance being one. Your rear knee should be inside the pocket of the lead leg acting as support. But you need to sit lower in your stance to get that pocket and proper depth. Lastly. Calling a Kung Fu form a "Kata" is like asking a Karate Stylist to display a Kung Fu form... you just don't.
Efraim Godah
That's correct. He never trained in real martial arts in his life. He's a fraud.
Kata, isn't that Japanese? Mantis, isn't that Chinese? Beef teriyaki is very different from sesame beef.. pure definition of a gwia-lo
Haha yes gwai lo he is!
Somebody please stop this guy. He is an insult to everything traditional kungfu is.
Nope! We have been going for over 15 years and will continue for another 85 + years!
ShaolinCenter
At least find a Sifu (that means master, teacher, father) then and stop calling what you are doing kungfu. Every true student of a Chinese Sifu who teaches traditional kungfu would respect and mention his teacher. The fact that you don't do that... everybody already knows enough. So find a teacher and be horrified at what you've been selling as kungfu. Every video you say, Awesome, Greatest, Super, Secret...that is the cheapest of ways to try to get more views on youtube. I showed your video to my Sifu, 3 seconds was enough. "Ahhh money talks bullshit walks", was his reply. Then he turned away.
internalkungfunl
Just curious, who is your Sifu? Did he say specifically what was wrong with Mace's form?
egglot12
I've trained tonglong with Mike martello. Who did Mei hua tonlong, babu tonglong,... . This is just not anything like tonglong. I myself run a xingyi and Bagua school. my current master is sifu Eleonora. As i said a Chinese kungfu student is proud of his lineage, Mace never mentions his shifu. The alingements in his forms are of. There is just no beginning at where this is not kungfu. Butt sticking out, shoulders raising up, knees going left and right, bowstance is off, horsestance is wrong (feet facing out), the kicks, and so on and so on... but this is the last reaction i'm gonna do because it is just not worth the time.
and you honnestly think a beginners form lets you strike with one finger alllll the time. beginning forms in everykungfu system focus on simple hand techniques and fists.
I think this routine should be renamed "Please roundhouse kick me in the kidney."
U mean liver
Guy gives you room for both, if your foot is big enough.
I like the Dog style Kung fu, they just sit there looking bored but ready to snap into action.
I really don't give a shit about what the "critics" say is the right or wrong moves, but I really admire that you are a martial artist and continue to keep these beautiful moves alive. The great founding fathers of martial arts from China and all over the world would be proud to have you as their disciple. Whoever is born to be your children would be lucky because their father knows his "stuff" and acts instead of chatting on social media like us lol love your videos man. SUBSCRIBED!
im 27 and have bein training im fitness and martial arts for 20 years and i very much enjoy this video as well as all the rest and ive found that the teacher in this video is awsome i learnd 3 of these katas in one day and spent the next 2 weeks pefecting them now my sparing has taken a new level
Omg I needed the laugh. Beaks.
I very much enjoyed this. A tour of china and japan, learning kata's would be on my list.
Thank you for showing it from multiple perspectives as well as saying which pressure points would be targeted.
Dear Jake Mace,
thank you for your video. after 2:24 seconds i realised i've been doing praying mantis my entire life. i practice judo and every time anything martial arts comes by in my life, i try and practice it. and i try and practice kicks and punches and throws which i'm simply too weak and small for yet maybe there's an adaptation i could create. the way you did that "reverse roundhouse kick", well that's funny! i figured out that kick on my own and now i see that it's legit!
to all the ones offended by how this is not traditional, Bruce Lee shared his wisdom by breaking with tradition. Ip man, assuming i studied this correctly, didn't bother tradition for the sake of tradition either. tradition holds the ultimate value. but that doesn't save my life if i just so happen to be a horrible student. This man with this video taught me something I could save myself with. tradition doesn't make you arrogant about tradition. if i understand anything about the philosophies behind martial arts, you cannot allow yourself to be attached to tradition. you would make tradition feel rigid and old.
I'm just a black belt trying to improve uppon himself. This video was very helpful to my life. It can be very lonesome to be a black belt. you have everyone's blessing to study and discover on your own but the issue with that, you are on your own. each randori i have to figure whether or not i incorporated tegniques, thoughts, feelings, philosophies, experiences, into my judo succesfully to the point i can walk away with the Ippon of that tuesday night. Usually i get schooled as much as i school my partners. to me martial arts are just like growing flowers: you're sad if yours doesn't bloom. you're happy if you see yours showing its beauty. i remember my yellow belt partner (secretly third dan aikido) throwing me in such a correcting manner that I grew as a human being! he threw me with an aikido Goshi Nage! and afterwards he explained to me how he did it! I tend to jump in and push back at first. that leaves me open for an attack like that. come to think of it, I need to humble my hips in order to throw as beautiful as he does.
anyway, let's not crush the plant this man grew. However, i cannot forsake my duty to just speak out and hopefully say something useful. I feel like Jake talks about hitting a target. May I humbly suggest this? focus on the form, not the target. in a fight there might be tenthousand targets to hit. just trust the form to hit either of them and be effective. Just trust the tradition of the form.
I can understand the hurt I read. But as imperfect as an individual can be, he's also just trying to live a life as a martial artist and sharing what he knows. at 4 minutes I hear him and it hits me: this is how you sell martial arts as a workout. fitness schools just BEG for an effective method to sell. nothing wrong trying to make a living helping people lose weight. fitness is just rather flashy and you just need to sell it. conditioning, flexibility, self defence, mastery of the mind, anything goes on that poster. to insult it is to not understand it. maybe he's just like your average workout going guy that descided he's grown so much from it that he wants to give back. you just HAVE TO forgive his overenthousiasm. I do not frown uppon people criticising. I just felt like expressing constructive criticism towards the ones criticising; or something like that. please don't be offended and please understand that I'm just a guy trying to learn.
This is NOT real Mantis style.. but for those of you who think Mantis style is useless in a fight... u know nothing! watch the movie Bushido man for the most epic Mantis style fight i have ever seen
This is Mantis!
ShaolinCenter NO - it is not, you lying sack of dung.
Kung Fu & Tai Chi Center w/ Jake Mace This is not mantis. What is the name of the form? Who's your teacher? Who was his or her teacher? And why are you the only mantis boxer in the whole world who thinks mantis claw is for attacking pressure points in the head, who doesn't recognise 7-star stance (which granted doesn't appear in some of the softer mantis styles, like 6 harmony or plum blossom) and who calls mantis claw, as they call it in 7-star mantis, or mantis hand, as they call it in softer mantis styles, the 'mantis beak'? Mantids don't have beaks, so when the (probably mythical) founder of the mantis system, Wong Long, wanted a way to defeat Shaolin boxers whose long stances and fast hands were too much for him and was inspired by the movements of the praying mantis, was he inspired by a mutant one? Or, as is more likely, when a melange of northern kung fu styles (none of which is shown here, incidentally) was thrown together as a vehicle for a more efficient set of fighting precepts based around signature mantis moves which occur in nearly all mantis fist forms, like hook, grapple and pluck, single intercept, supplementary fist, overwhelming and millstone palms, and supplementary lowline kicking built into the stance work, are we to believe that one of those forms, this one, was totally different to all the others in every way?
+RckChalkJHawk to me this is mantis style, i don't really care if it works
+DarkShroom WTF
You need to look up Wah Lum. This is not what I'm learning in Orlando. If it was I'd walk out.
Nothing is called " KATA" , in kung fu.
You are 100% correct on all counts, sir.
Wikipedia
"Kata is a Japanese word describing detailed choreographed patterns of movements practised either solo or in pairs. The term form is used for the corresponding concept in non-Japanese martial arts in general."
A mantis doesn't have a beak. The mantis FIST is supposed to represent it's claws for punching (with the back of the wrist), hooking, grasping, and locking. Look at the picture of any mantis and you'll see what the form is trying to emulate. It's claws.
Go ahead and google mantis beak and mantis fist.
Would like to see you do Southern mantis or Chow Gar mantis forms Jake your stuff is awesome thanks for all your shares
Agreed
you guys should go to a traditional mantis school and try them out to see the difference in your style to a real traditional. you will find what you lack.
Every video I've seen when you do a double smash blows me away how dialed they are!
Under the jaw, over the head, over the top hook.... Shooooryuken!
hardfugoo1, you are correct about there being many styles, but I doubt Mantis has "Beaks", lol, Cranes have beaks, so it makes him look amateurish, like he doesn't really know so he calls it what it would be in Crane, like its a beak but modified to a mantis. If he was just posting as a student, that'd be alright, but if you are posting to teach, or promote yourself as a teacher, I think you should use the correct terms. To each his own, though. Have fun.
The under jaw and over head hits have awesome leg work!
Bow stance into horse stance just like what I'm learning!
your videos are great thnx for your time
Wow it's really good
Please do some more videos
It's really helpful for me
Thank you for your teaching Retreats tradings
I don't get why everyone's flooding all your videos with negative comments. I find your videos amazingly helpful and they're pretty effective for combat on the streets.
Saad abdallah - jake mace is a fraud. He's a fake. Nothing you learn from him can help you in the street, or anywhere else. Defending him is like saying that I taught you how to play the saxophone and you played a concert with famous star. I know nothing about playing a saxophone, but you claim that I can teach you. Do you get it now???
Couldn't punching with the mantis claw break the index finger?
got a part of training similar to iron palm, for train the finger part.
this was unbearable,.........the man never been in a fight,........
That's actually a compliment. Better to be able to avoid conflict if you ask me. Although, I couldn't say that for sure about Jake, I have seen him spar on multiple occasions.
Josh Quick "sparring" with people is in no way equal to real combat. This guy is a fraud as well as his "master" Sin Kwang The'. Are you not reading that many here are verifying this? You obviously have no experience in real martial arts, so you see this and can't tell the difference between it and the real thing. Martial arts systems are established by the characteristics of their sets or forms. Ask Jake the name of this form and research the origin of it. You won't find it. Because it's fake - like Jake. I'm not "hatin" as many uninformed people here accuse those who expose jake say. Just looking out for those who don't know what is real from fake. If I sell you a diamond ring, how would you know it is real? You go to a jeweler. Ive been involved in martial arts for almost 40 years. I have no videos to post and I don't need to prove anything to you or anyone else. You need to look up right here on YT, all the mantis styles that exist. 7 Star, 6 Harmony, Plum Blossom, Taiji Mantis - look them up and see what real mantis is like. Come back and compare. I'm a Southern stylist so I prefer Southern Mantis Boxing. Check that out too.
Josh Quick then you shouldnt be watching martial art videos, you should be watching sprinting and parkour instead.
dxmakina Does not wanting conflict or violence mean the whole purpose of self defense is meaningless?
Josh Quick does not running and parkour prove to be the best way of avoiding violence?
I love this guy. Keep them coming man.
It is!
Thanks so much! :)
Every one is insulting you, except I. You do contribute much to Kungfu.
Can you give another name to this taolu? May be JMMantis Taolu/Kata.
Totally Real Mantis!!!
1,2,3...1,2...lazy takedown now im on bottom Omoplata imanari hammerfist you will not ever get to my level
I set traps for men ....chinese martial arts are GIRLISH
Thank you for sharing this Jake, and all the hard work you put into sharing all your other videos and skills. You are clearly dedicated to your path, and in my book that is what counts the most in martial arts training, that and just 'keeping going'. Just sorry you have all this negativity and trolling going on in the comments.
I like ur videos
I practice kung fu everyday
I live in a muntain area perferct 4 practice
thx sir
I've always liked this style
Hi, can you explain the higher kicks? I study Southern Praying Mantis, and although I relate to a lot of what you did, where I studied we kept our kicks lower. I trained third generation under Gin Foon Mark.
Jake's is a Northern Praying Mantis style, not a Southern one, though they are still common in some movements.
Lol i cant help to laugh the dogs reactions lol
I know, they're like 'dafuq, dude!?' ..and 'what are THOSE?! On your feet
Jake i respect how u teach the deadly original five fist form continue your soon to reaching deadly touch techniques Shoalin 36

Thanks for the video! This helps me a lot.
Jake... you just make the aliens cancel they plan to meet and make friends with us :(
I feel a little dumber for watching it.
Hey Jake!
First time viewer. All of these forms look like Shaolin-Do Karate. Jake did you study Shaolin-Do?
Hola! Cuál es el nombre de la patada que hace en el minuto 6:34 ? Gracias 😊
In your info you put "preying" but its Praying Mantis.
Oh, but we're going to "prey" upon some unsuspecting victims with our BEAKS UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for your hard work. You seem to really enjoy what you are doing, and got to say, it looks a bit impressive. I wanted to know more, and you have shown me quite a few new things.
You are a very good teacher.i am a Indian.but i explained everything.thank you sir
Hahaha those dogs seem to enjoy those beautiful harmonious moves 6:41 Kung fu is beauty👍👍👌👌😁😁
hey Jake I"m Connor Thomas and I wacthed shoalin mantis . You almost doing the movements like in the movie itself I have a friend name James Jean and maybe you can tech him what you know
I enjoyed the mantis style. Do you have any Snake Form (kata)? Please post if you have any..
I really like Mantis style. well. That along with Tiger style and crane. perhaps you should demonstrate this on a person if you haven't yet. (i just ran into this video/channel today)
What style of tang lang quan is this? I practice 7 star praying mantis. So far I have learned er lu chai yao and Tiger Staff. I am currently learning the Hammer fist taolu from Chang Quan
Thank you! What family of mantis does the form come from?
Could I ask if this is southern or northern mantis? As I study northern mantis and some of the techniques are not familiar such as mantis claw.
It's sad seeing soo many people who profess to learn Kung-Fu but have lost all sight of the spirituality of it, to bring peace where there is violence. So to all who post negative comments, just remember, no one style is greater than another. The painter can have Kung-fu, the sculptor or the baker can have Kung-fu, Kung-fu is a way of life. Not a rigid form set in its ways. Do not think that because you've learned one way to do something that it is the only way it can be done. Keep up the good work Jake. And do not allow these negative minds influence you. Stay strong!
The only thing about this form though, is he is doing it completely wrong. It is not Mantis Kung Fu. Not at all
Tevis Weir lol
Nice! I love it to watch other kung-fu styles and techniques. I subbed u just a few minutes ago and i like u :) . I also do kung-fu, did u ever heard of the kung-fu style "Vo-Dao". thats what i practise and try to master. I begin today with the bo staff spinning, like u showed in ur old vids :) .
Greetings from Germany!
Wow, interesting form. I've done Tang Lang Quan for a while. What lineage is this?
This was a really cool video Jake I like how you break down each move to show beginners how to do the move properly.
me too, Jake.
forget the haters!
ur awesome for breaking it down in slo mo!
what if your opponent bites one of your index finger? Do you use only the other hand? Or do you just switch to the middle finger? hehe! lol
Man you are funny.loo
Saint Mars Ahhaaaaaa! 💪
Very nice. I trained in Northern Plum Blossom with Grand Master Chi Moon Park while i Korea. Interestingly enough he trained the great Roger Hagood in the mid 70's with whom I also correspond though he lives in China now. It is hard to find training in Mei Hua Tang Lang here in the states.
funny thought Roger hagood was into the southern mantis?? Im sorry but If you think this is good you dont know what real good kung fu is.
Hagood is into Southern as well, I talk with him on a regular basis but as I said he trained with Grandmaster Park in the mid 70's while in the Army. I complimented the man but never said it was good Wu Shu. I trained with two 73 yr old original Grandmasters in Northern Mantis both if whom are from North Korea. They left and went South to join the fight against the North, never to see their families again. I trained with them, ate with them, worked with them, and laughed with them. I know "good kung fu" as I then assume you must as well.
what is the advantage of this hook position compared with the "normal" hook with 3 or all fingers like in crane style
This is awesome. I wish I could train at your school.
Great video.... keep up the good work
My teacher taught me a mantis form and it seemed to last forever. it was a long form. I have long since forgot it but it was a heck of a work out, and mental exercise just trying to remember it all.
It IS a traditional form! This is the beginner shortened version. I'll upload some more mantis and the full version coming up soon!
Takedown. Fein Guillotine...Von Flu
This video disturbs me greatly
Who and where do you learn this, it is not right form
what type of vibrams are those?
Are you teaching us for combat or the form?
12 Keyword Verbal Formula:

7.Chan(Contact) 8.Nien(Cling)
9.Tieh(Tag) 10.Kao(Lean)
11.Chien(Dodge) 12.Teng Nuo
(Bounce).
Techniques with the fingers, the
elbow, and the knee are very often
employed in the Seven Star Praying Mantis Style.
Fingers are usually applied for
thrusting at the eyes and the
throat, or for choking the throat
of the opponent. Fingers can also
be used to Claw at the face of the
opponent. (No such thing as a mantis having a beak, which it
doesn't have. Beaks are for birds
not insects)
The first three keywords, "Hook,
Grapple, Pluck" always appear
together, as these three techniques
are usually applied in co ordination
to serve for both defending and
counter attacking purposes.
(again no beak)
Taken from the book by Master
Lee Kam Wing's Seven Star Praying Mantis Kungfu witten
by Wing Tsun Kuen Master
Leung Ting, close door disciple of
Ip Man.
Jake mace why does your horse stance have toes pointed out? Why does your seven star stance look like a cat stance?
Awesome Kata! Great form.
Tyler, that guy is a fake.
Please, please pleaaaaase.....do yourself a favour....get a teacher who teach you REAL kung fu. Stop showing this fake
kaimen i thought his Sifu is Sensei RUclips
someone should tell this guy fights dont happen like this. This aint a movie
i know it looks stupid but everything is legit lol
@@feoded4823 haha no
I will admit i study hung gar kuen.
But i do like the Praying Mantis Style of Kungfu. I have Lee Kam Wing's books on Seven Star Praying Mantis Kungfu.
A Praying Mantis doesn't have a "beak" they have "hooks" right?
Birds have beaks i thought.
4:15, when you're showing these strikes with that really low stance, I must ask a question about it's effectiveness and utility. I am no MMA expert I'll be straight with you, I just love Lion Rafale from Virtua Fighter. Anyways, it seems you extend yourself really wide, almost too wide. The strikes you do after seem to lack the ability to draw chi and strength from the ground, into your legs & channeled forward into those strikes fully & effectively. To some degree, a lot of elements, I feel are theatrical & are meant to connect with the spirit of the style/stance in question & less for its outright fighting usefulness or effectiveness. What is your take from a more realized & mature perspective as a fighter?
Taolu/Kata's manoeuvers:
bow, hands down, double claw up, groin kick, lower stance, consecutive claw attacks, hook round the head claw attack, torso turn, (the other side), claw attack,
double claw up, drop elbow, reverse roundhouse kick (bai-lian kick), chin attack, eye attack, double claw, elbow down, kick, chin attack, double claw, .........
It's more flexible and you can arguably jab deeper with good conditioning. The 3 fingered hook doesn't work well when you release the wrist. This, however, has an advantage in that it only engages one tendon and allow you much for freedom of motion without sacrificing much structure.
cool forms nice moves
Brill video for people who don't do defence studies this is a good video. Just master said moved and that would be all you need to defend yourself successfully! Great vid jake!!! I have watched your chain whip and staff ones... Actually most of them and are very good!!
This is not any mantis i recognize. The feet are all wrong. The position and level of the hands.
Im curious who taught you this. What did they say the name of this form was and what style of mantis?
I do not know much shaolin mantis but this isnt any of the Northern true styles.
Very interesting, your a master at this.I'll sub too. TCB
Aww, look how excited he is to show off his new form.. And its good that, even though much of his energy is escaping through his mouth, he still has plenty of explanations while going through the movements. I don't see what is so preventing him from wearing a shirt while doing this though.
Are you complaining that he didn't wanna wear a shirt
I know what's preventing him, it's fucking hot outside 💀💀
@@izzyandcrizzy6881 I'm not even debating the impossibility of putting on a shirt (biceps anyone 😂), but I am just amused by the pretentiousness of it.
@@izzyandcrizzy6881 Thanks for your helpful input, dork
@@invalidrequest I never said you said it wasn't possible, I'm just saying the way you worded it made it sound like you had a problem with him being shirtless
"This style is very devastating because it's really good" yeah, solid circular logic to open your video there, Jake *eyeroll*
Awesoem dude..........Thanks al lotttttttt
I have!
is wang lang the founder of mantis kung fu
not this... this isnt mantis kung fu
-practitioner for 5 years
Although nearly every one below criticizes Jack Mace negatively, I admire his guts and good intelligence to invent a form like this. If it is bad, it will vanish; otherwise, it will be passed on. So why be annoyed and angry? Let this man express what he thinks. This is a land of the free, isn't it? You can also upload a video showing your "correct, orthodox" technique.
From your boiling anger, I know he wins; he smiles and enjoys his technique. See who benefits?-----at least psychologically.
My goodness he can't be for real.
He said "mantis beaks"?
When did the mantis get its "beaks?"
Yo practico kung fu, y en este momento estoy por mantis, este vídeo me ayudara mucho gracias jake :)
It's funny how everyone in this comments section and jake mace has clearly never been in a fight. Guys, you don't strike a horse or bow stance in a fight, taolu is for conditioning. Not only that, but the movements in the taolu are exaggerated; in a fight, you'd be standing upright more + not as rigid. And FINALLY, and I can't STRESS THIS ENOUGH, pressure points dont work the way YOU THINK IT DOES. You don't strike a singular point with a finger, you whittle the nerve cluster down with FORCE. Praying mantis is optimized for JOINT LOCKS, NOT PRESSURE POINT KNOCKOUTS.
I see some complaints about him calling the form a kata. At :33 he addressed that.
I think that guy smoked a little too much of the green in his backyard.
is this the kung fu that reptile from mortal kombat uses?
Also i stay in Greenville nc if there are any challenges
How many students do you have?
So much negativity regarding this video. This is all very basic. Any martial artist knows the secret is in the basics!! Keep gojng Jake!! You inspire me!!
This is real kung fu jake mace
to do certain styles like this tiger, crane, mantis... its a respect for the animal itself and upholding that respect works their force in to your style
