      @@MonkeyStealsPeach I did a little a while back in 2010 in Vietnam. The teacher named it Tanglang Quan but I believe it had been mixed with our local styles already. I was fascinated at 06:14 to know from whom the art was spreaded to Vietnam :) My teacher however was so keen on conditioning the body, doing partner drills and breaking down the forms into applications rather than practicing the forms, pretty much what you train with your Sifu and brother in ruclips.net/video/by9vbfy4sXM/видео.html. So sorry I don't know the names of any forms which belong to Mantis. Some keywords like Luohan DoanDa, 8 joint principle cross my mind and sorry now I can barely remember :D

    A few comments; (1) Jing Wu significantly pre-dates Central Guoshu Academy, (2) influence of Japanese martial arts upon Central Guoshu is not speculative, well documented by contemporaneous sources and (3) Central Guoshu did not downplay fighting aspect, they in fact tried to make fighting more modern, practical and central to the practices

    Hey I really enjoyed this series on mantis boxing! This may be a naive question, I discovered your channel through Jesse Enkamp and I'm not overly knowledgeable regarding chinese ma. In karate the original applications to kata created prior to the mid 20th century have all been lost to history with only a few (debatably no) exceptions. Is the same true for mantis and other forms of chinese martial arts or have the practical applications and partner drills survived along with their corresponding forms?

    • @ambulocetusnatans
      @ambulocetusnatans 2 года назад +2

      That does happen sometimes in CMA, but it depends. I'm not a Mantis guy, but I would say that it is less likely to happen to a style like Mantis than it would for a style like Tai Chi.

    • @adammills9715
