Iris Mechanism with Overlapping Blades

- This is an Iris mechanism where blades overlap such a way that base of the each blade is above of previous blade. This creates a problem in the animation when you want to place the last blade. I thought this would be an easy animation to make, it turn out to be challenging one. Finally I solved the problem by using masking and one extra blade. It has some minor problems, but it give you the idea of how this mechanism works.
A couple of small points, though- the diagram shows a physically impossible situation: look at the blue blades- starting at the top and going counter-clockwise, each successive blade is on top of the previous blade. That means the fifth, or last blade has to be above of the first blade, or, actually 3 blade thicknesses ABOVE it- not below it as shown. This also means that the green slotted plate would be unstable without some way to keep it flat- or, rather, parallel to the front plate. As you’ve stated, some minor problems- not insurmountable.
Dear Chris thank you for your comment and spending your time and looking my animation such a detailed way. However animation is correct, only mistake a made is that I should call it Iris Diaphragm instead of Iris mechanism. In the optical diaphragm blades are arranged as it shown this animation. This was very difficult task, at least for me, to animate it. The green blade you see in the animation is actually a masking layer not an actual blade. This is a trick Flash animator use to get a desired result. That is why I said it was though job for me the time I made this video. Also I have not seen anyone to do an animation to similar to the mine, since it is difficult to do it. Attached link show the actual diaphragm that I was trying to animate.

I was wondering how to answer those question myself. I was so lucky in the setup that I did not use any formula. Look at actual animation in my website mekanizmalar you can see that movement is not exact, but it is good enough.
What formulas would I use to calculate the appropriate length and angle of the slots in the actuating plate to determine a desired displacement of the blades?
Thank you so much for this!!!!
Thank you for your speedy response. I have been studying the animations of your site. It's a great site. Surprisingly, I cannot find any information to answer my question. I have been searching the internet for weeks, looking for camera shutter and iris valve designs, but I still cannot find one relevant thing.
No it is not your problem. Most of them has no voice. Recently I began putting some voice.
Time to create!
you know were I can find or get a printable diagram of this iris you made?
do u have svg-plans so I can have that laser-cut? my oven needs an air intake...? thank u!
But what if you want all of your blades on the same plane?
Thank you.
Are all of the pieces to scale? I want to make a real version of this.
This is an animation which is created in Adobe Flash. Therefore I do not suggest to use this to create a replica of it. I would recommend that you should use some CAD program to do it.
where can I find this simulation?
You just answered life question...
I couldn't find this mechanism on the website! please send me a direct link

No voice in any of your videos????...or my problem?
