  • Tropical Storm Debby continues to slowly strengthen and organize in the Gulf of Mexico with rain bands washing over the Florida Keys on Sunday. Debby is expected to make landfall as a Category 1 hurricane in Florida's Big Bend on Monday.

      The storms before climate change hit land and weakened. Now, the storms run up on the land like they are still in the water.

      @@irwinsaltzman979 Horrible example. The city of Houston has terrible drainage, so even the basic rain storm will cause flooding.

      @@cbcbrown88 it was not the flooding. It was trees down and loss of electric power. Hopefully your power company has power line run underground and cuts back the vegetation from the above ground power lines better than in Texas.

      Right?! It bugs the tar out of me every time. No one here is less valuable. These are very poor rural communities as well. Thus are will have a much harder time recovering than some other places might.

      Exactly. Might have a lot of trees in this area still, we didn't cover all of it in concrete yet, but there are quite a lot of people in the Big Bed region and we aren't completely recovered yet from Hurricane Idalia last year that hit us as a Cat 4.

    We haven't even had a full year between this storm and hurricane Idalia last year. Might be less populated but we still have a lot of people who live in the path and we aren't even completely recovered from Idalia. 😬🙏

    Please do not keep focusing on our area being less populated. It is a slap in the face to those of us who do live here. These are VERY poor rural communities. The majority (not all but definitely a lot) of people live in mobile homes and have no insurance. Recovery in these communities is brutal.

    The nature coast is a sparsely populated area. The rest of us in Florida lucked out with this one. After going through 4 major storms during the month of August in 2004, I always expect the worse...Lol...

    Never before in history has a hurricane struck the same place a year later until now. No mention of this fact. Why? Perry, FL again in the cross hairs. Too bizarre. Unreal. Never before 2023 had a hurricane struck Perry, FL. Now, two in succession.
