How to Check an Anode Rod - Water Heater Maintenance

Checking the anode rod is part of the basic maintenance for a water heater. The anode rod helps protect the inside of the tank from corroding, extending its life. The anode rod slowly breaks down and needs to be replaced over time.

If the water heater is over 10 years old forget checking it. If it's not broke don't fix it applies!

Hi, from the training I've taken from water heater companies, they suggest replacing the anode rod when it's depleted to add more life to your tank. Even on an older tank. When the anode rod is used up, the water immediately starts corroding your tank shortening it's life.

@@FIXITHomeImprovementChannel well, just how many years is left on a 10 year old water heater. might not be worth the effort and expense to replace the rod.
