You failed to mention Cebu Pacific. Cebu Pacific was one of the big reasons for Philippine Airlines' downfall. Cebu Pacific became the largest and the leading Airline in the Philippines.
Did you know that Cebu Pacific changed air travel in the Philippines, and because of Cebu Pacific all Filipinos have a chance to fly. Back then, ferries were the most practical and economical option to travel inter-island. My parents told me that they couldn't afford to fly back then, they couldn't afford to travel by air when Philippines Airlines (PAL) dominated the market during the 1970s and 1980s. As it is the sole domestic airline, Philippine Airlines (PAL) was virtually monopolizing the country's aviation industry. 1974 - PAL continues to dominate the industry by having the monopoly on domestic travels. Air travel was a luxury. Flying was very expensive, PAL's ticket from Cebu to Manila was more or less 6K and during 70's, 80's and 90's it was too much, the PAL base airfare in 1980's or 1990's cost 6K or 12K to 13K in today's peso. Besides the service was bad, unfriendly, unapproachable, and the flight attendants were too confident, "mga feeling sosyal kono kaayo". Fortunately, when Cebu Pacific started flying, everything changed. Air travel became very accessible, available, friendly, fun, and affordable, and all Filipinos can now fly to their favorite domestic and international destinations with high quality and friendly service at an affordable price. Thanks to Cebu Pacific. We love Cebu Pacific.
In January 1974, Philippine Airlines became a monopoly in domestic air travel after the late Dictator Ferdinand Marcos (by virtue of his powers under Martial Law) ordered the foreclosure of two other airlines - Filipinas Orient Airlines (FOA) and Air Manila Inc. (AMI).

Re-training and de-training or overhauling the cabin crews are what PAL really needs. I am a Philippine-born Canadian and experienced in flying with those ill-mannered crews. Our friends had a layover in Manila and had a 8:00 am the next day.
They got to the airport at 6:00 am and STILL MISSED THEIR CONNECTING FLIGHT !
Reason being the security check-in line was so long it snaked almost half way around the front terminal.
The airport made no provisions to speed up the process, it was everyone for themselves.
They said it was a nightmarish scene from a horror movie, they'd never experienced anything like it !
It pretty much ruined their SE Asia vacation.

I have not flown PAL for the longest time since my past bad experiences. I have been flying JAL and KAL and even SAL sometimes. I have been very happy with the flight attendants service of these airlines and the food is pretty decent even in economy class.. Last July 2021 I was forced to fly PAL since it was the only airline the US government allowed to fly American citizens to the US. This turned out to be a nightmare from the ground crew and especially the bad attitude of the stewardesses. It was such a horrible experience that I wanted to kiss the grounds at LAX. I wrote a review about my experienced just to warn prospective customers not really expecting that things will change.. Philippine companies like PAL does not really have good customer service representatives that will address your complaint or concerns. Last June 2022 after the Pandemic subsided I flew PAL again just to make sure my last bad experience was just because of Covid19. THIS WAS MY EXPERIENCE: The food was terrible the chicken was hard and the pork has some kind of smell the feel old. These I can take because I brought some food with me as a precaution. But the flight attendants service and attitude was repulsive. The lady next to me kept asking for water to no response so we went to the galley to get water - lo and behold the attendants were telling stories to each other much like SM sales ladies. The restrooms were never cleaned it was disgusting. These attendants seem to not like their job or they belittle us because we are flying economy. It was a bad feeling and I do not ever want to experience this again in my life.
