your opinions suck
bro, ain't no way hero shooters are being called overwatch clones like overwatch wasn't a tf2 clone
Even tho tf2 started it. Overwatch made it popular enough to clone and most hero shooters take overwatch their hero system with skills and ult. Instead of tf2s equipment system. This is coming from somebody with a couple of hundred hours in tf2.
overwatch and tf2 basically had 2 similarities, objectives, and classes, that's where it ends lmao. TF2 has almost no abilities, overwatch is mostly based around the abilities, tf2 isn't a huge team based game, more based on solo ability, you can pop off without playing coordinated, overwatch is extremely team based and required coordination to win or even do good.
@@garbagemane6575 Yeah like how shooters were called Doom Clones for the longest time despite Wolfenstein being first. Though i still call it class based shooter because of TF2. And as a designer i hate the term clone since it implies the games have 0 originality or new ideas. Like OW def brought a lot of new ideas to the table.
TF2 glazers still pretending TF2 is relevant
@Chris-dy1cb Neither has Rogue but we still call it Rogue-likes.
pvz, especially the second, was massive when it first launched. the newest game isn’t really the same but there was and still is a fairly large and loyal fan base for the games
"Dead Hero Shooters" "Paladins" - Y'all, I can find a match in Paladins any day of the week, their current community manager is good people, has a much more inclusive roster of character designs, and they've been putting out far more interesting character kits than Overwatch has for a while. Plus you left out the detail that Paladins was in the works before Overwatch - it even was featured ages back in an issue of Game Informer as this bold new concept. Overwatch just beat them to the punch and had a far bigger marketing budget to smother the potential.
I also add that the company that made Paladins also made other games that could be considered hero shooters, such as Smite, Rogue Company, Global Agenda, several of the games in the Tribes saga, many of these games are much older than OW and have the same features that paladins supposedly copied from OW, although in reality the developers are only reusing ideas from their previous works, not to mention that paladins is technically the sequel to the global agenda so it was to be expected that they would recycle the mechanics of that game
@@juanmanuelrodriguezarango4415 Precisely. This is why I'm always hesitant about doing grand sweeping videos like these - you miss a lot of key details and then your comment section is full of folks like us having to explain all the stuff that's glossed over.
Yeah paladins didn't fully devolve into toxicity and is still a Friday night boys game. The character build system is indepth and trying new builds help close the skill gap.
Yeah, he put that on here just so people like you would leave comments, and you fell for it. Easy way to drive up engagement with the video
@@I_am_a_cat_brings engagement sure. But engagement doesn't mean anything if your viewers don't stay around. Might get him more views for this one, but it's damaging his whole channel and chance of success as a youtuber.
Battle for Neighborville was terrible, but the first two Garden Warfare games were gold. GW2 in particular still has a really active fanbase.
Bro cussing out pvz like it’s a bad game
I think it was more that he just didn't understand the game, and he said it was too chaotic for him. The first two pvz gw games were awesome. The last one was, eh.
@@richard_gonzalez planets vs zombies was dumb as hell
Dumb fun@@nomercyinc6783
@@richard_gonzalez I agree with that, it was just a bit of a shock because it’s one of my favourite games didn’t expect him to have not heard of it before
and the best pvz fps :(
Bro actually has no idea what he's talking about when he starts shitting on PVZ
Ikr lol
It's just because he didn't grow up with it.
They very clearly talk about games they have never played and just watch like the most popular review and draw conclusions from that
Bro never even shit on it what lmao, he literally just said he didn’t like it that much with his experience what 😭
pvz was dumb as fuck. growing up with it doesnt make it cooler
Black Ops 4 was like a AAA mobile game
Last COD you could play while listening to music and chilling
Ww2 was the last genuine good cod made, bo4 was just a bad experience literally everything sucked.
funny you mention this, a lot of COD mobile just feels like a lot of the things in it belonged to BlOps 4
@@AyoBodeeCold War was great
i redownloaded bo4, fun asf
I’ve been playing paladins and I love it so far
I enjoyed it more then overwatch honestly just a fun time
I actually just reinstalled pvz gw2 YESTERDAY cause it was so good! Its definitely a kinda chaotic game, but it definitely had clear objectives, a ton of game modes, a shit ton of unlockables, really well designed challenges, and was hugely popular when it came out and stayed that way probably untill 2020 when battle for neighborville came out (which straight up killed the franchise).
If I remember correctly, it actually had a larger playerbase than both Halo 4 and Halo 5, which granted, those werent super popular, but its still impressive.
The game is still alive too
Battleborn was overshadowed by Overwatch and it's sad that the game is gone and there is no hope of it coming back. It actually had a story mode.
It is somehow back: A moder managed to get the pve in solo playable on pc, and is stil working on bringing other features as multi (coop/pvp) back
Enjoyed playing it with friends. Easy to jump in and play.
mostly because of randy
Aint no way Nameless Voice #1 just dissed Garden Warfare like jt isnt a banger
Paladins is not really dead yet
It's on life support at this point. I do hope the devs dont fully shut down the servers or just release the game's assets for other developers to work on the game
He said that to get people to comment. You fell for it.
Paladins isn't dead tho...
Thats what im saying bro like wtf its still popular as hell
@@bloopblopglip is it? people are saying its dying now especially with the devs or something i heard
@demen9497 It's very still alive on console and pc. Steam alone has 8-10k peak player. don't know about the rest.
@@demen9497 I've genuinely not heard anything about this I'm still finding matches easy
@@bloopblopglipyep although I’m crashing a lot
No way he said pvz gw2 characters are like overwatch characters when gw2 came months before overwatch 1
I saw Wrecking Ball with Rein shield😭
Heck gw1 came out before battleborn even.
People talk about tf2 clones being oversaturated but gw1 actually came out before almost all of them.
Game is still terribly slept on though.
Gw2 has more players lol. It was fairly popular back in the day.
I disagree with the notion that garden warfare was not popular like if it wasn't then why did zack scott make 333 episodes of garden warfare 1 then 442 for garden warfare 2 and 117 for battle for neighborville. side note zackscottgames also has 1158 vodeos of gameplay of pvz 2.
bro has absolutely no idea what hes talking about
I genuinely loved Battleborn and played so much of it, its even sadder that this game died and OW lived long enough to become the mess it is today. The lore is great but we basically never get this and they want us to pay for 'story missions'
Literally I know multiple friends and communities who lament Battlebornes shut down. I loved it, it was fun and needed more time to shine. Now we've got a half baked OW2, and a community of players begging for content that BattleBorne had AT LAUNCH.
Just because a game has classes doesn’t make it a friggen hero shooter. I have never seen ANYONE refer to Battlefront as a hero shooter..
LawBreakers was one of my favorite games ever released. It’s such a shame that the developer closed their doors not even a year after its release.
In the pvz gw section of the video. It was very clear you guys need to do little more research on these types of videos. Since you guys didn't even explain the reason why pvz gw series failed when the 3rd game of the series came out.
They always make mistakes and doing no research on games they never play.
Yeah the split between gw and bfn and the history behind it could be its own video.
I don't why I thought this was a good idea but when rocket arena was shutting down I tried to get the platinum trophy before it shut down 22 hours I'm never getting back.
Quake Champions is a disaster. They were more worried about monetization than the game. Every time I return to play, there was a new form of monetization. From loot boxes to battle passes, yet the gameplay was more broken and unoptimized as hell. This is why I stick to Quake 3 or Doom 2016.
PvZ Garden Warfare was actually really fun and pretty well designed. I had a lot of fun with it for a while, never played the sequel.
People comparing Battleborn to overwatch hurts me. Battleborn was a moba not a hero shooter. I miss it so much
I love your work guys. It feels like I'm back in my early teens watching an episode of "Good Games" on ABC. Very fun , informative and engaging channel !
Garden warfare 2 is and will probably always be my favorite “Hero Shooter” ever.
I have yet to find a game that captures the vertical positioning access and freedom garden warfare 1 gave.
Gw2 proceeded to take 1 and unironically make one of the best follows up to a formula that it could. It addresses and fixes a lot of gw1's problems immediatly.
Darn shame the series was left to rot after bfn and pvz itself has fallen off since a true gw3 could've been the magnum opus of the series.
Shame the pvz section of this video is so poorly researched but I wouldnt say I'm not use to it given how many braindead takes surround the series.
what we call "looking like a mobile" game is just cell shaded style and certain design that was co-opted by mobile now
sad to see that interpretation
As a Paladins veteran I just want to say that people were quick to claim Paladins was an Overwatch clone since the -full release- was a year after Overwatch. However it became pretty popular since beta which was a year BEFORE Overwatch came out.
nah i’m not gonna stand for pvzgw slander the second game was amazing and was supported for years till EA forced a new game being neighborville and it killed the series bc it changed so much from the original two games that people enjoyed so much the series would probably still be going on as it had and still has a loyal player base mainly on console on the second game
Slating PVZ2 and Paladins is so crazy these games are well established, yes they've run their course but they were staple games for so so long. You kinda missed on both of those.
It's amazing that TF2 has been around for this long, and it's still going
RIP Battleborn.
paladins came out months after ow, how does that automatically make it a clone? their similar and were made around the same time, so they were being made at the same time
PvZ wasn't a failure honestly. The first one went HARD, but it just died out naturally. The second one was great too, but I think they killed it with the third game.
12:24 GW didn't fail, and the OG is still very active. Was playing it last night
What makes paladins better than overwatch is that you can customize your loadout cards which gives legends tons more replayability compared to overwatch
at the cost of it being infinitely worse than overwatch. If i wanted to play a game with builds I would an actual Moba and not a hero shooter that uses the MOBA build system in a way that makes it either broken or lame
@@kaydenyeeter801 Its all about prefrences. Some people prefer more complex shooters
@@yaboi3710Preference is great, but it's like not better than Overwatch. It just isn't
@@kaydenyeeter801 i dont think you know what prefrence means
@@kaydenyeeter801 Well Gigantic did what something similar and is actually better gameplay wise, onlt problem was the learning curve
Don’t sleep paladins still has a community and the game is still pretty fun
I just find it absolutely hilarious most of these games have a higher playerbase years later then Suicide Squad: KTJL which is down to the hundreds and is only a couple months old.
I remember actually having a great time with Battleborn with my friends during a free weekend or something like that. Essentially get creepwaves to the enemy base like dota but it was an fps. Wish it was still around
I loved Gigantic so much. I remember one day I tried going into it and it said servers were shut down. I was so sad about it, I vaguely remember the gameplay though. Glad to see it in the video
I enjoyed Paladins significantly more than Overwatch. That's all that matters to me regardless of the potential similarities.
Overwatch actually ripped off Paladins , paladins came first
He should have put a bit of research into the pvz games due to the fact they were super popular and the reason it has no players on steam is cause of the hacking situation like BO3
There are several hero shooters that have attempted to climb to the top but only the decent ones remain
Deceive Inc. at launch was incredible. Basically hitman as a competitive shooter. Its super dead now though lmao
Apparently pvz is a hero shooter
BO4 was the last fun cod game before it got ruined by SBMM. I actually enjoyed using all the different specialists.
Nah, ww2 was the last genuine good cod.
@@AyoBodee Eh it was alright. Hated how they changed the perk system
The company that made Paladins also made other games that could be considered hero shooters, such as Smite, Rogue Company, Global Agenda, several of the Tribes saga games, many of these games are much older than OW and have the same characteristics for the ones that people accuse paladins of copying OW, without mentioning that paladins is technically the sequel to global agenda
Gotham City Imposters deserved a spot here 😂
I'm a huge fan of Gigantic and I was so happy it's back, but it's disappointing to see it dying again due to messy servers and bugs at launch on top of being pay-2-play. I keep telling myself "I love this game I only need 9 more people to play and I'm good" but it gets harder as queues get longer and longer and there's still an issue of "player declined" that makes you queue over and over for at least 20 minutes before finally playing.
I'll play it nonetheless, but I really hope they will switch to free-2-play at the very least
I mean imagine you pay(!) for moba at launch and you can't play normally due to issues with servers and "fake queues" where you need to queue around 40 times and there's no guarantee that you'll play eventually. And it took them around a week to fix.
That's just... I don't have enough words for that.
Garden Warfare 1 was a genuinely COOL game that had alot more in common with TF2 than anything else.
its a shame the sequels through any semblance of balance between teams
Battleborn was fun af during the beta. I loved that sniper robot dude with the fancy clothes
19:30 Lawbreakers is coming back as a private server
Here's a niche one that wasn't covered: Black Clover Quarter Knights.
It had a playerbase of about 5 people with every match set up in Discord, on PC at least. It was actually quite fun and you could do ranked pvp against bots
Have you considered doing a vid on Accursed Farms Stop Killing Games campaign?
Lots of other creators have been covering it to expose their audience to it and it feels super relevant to this vid
I feel like you guys used a lot more speculation on why these games died. rather then educated guesses
Almost like they’re just giving their opinion 🤷♂️
In 2002-3 we were playing a Warcraft 3 hero shooter mod in Counter-Strike, so no, hero shooters existed way before TF2 or overwatch.
Paladins isn’t dead, my friends and I play it sometimes and we get pretty fast queues.
Iirc, Paladins actually started development technically before OW but tbh there was a time OW was kinda popular especially when OW was losing pop but what made it die when they had an advantage FINALLY....they basically fell into the OW trap and prioritized the WRONG thing and fan faves got super nerfed to show off newer Champions.
Also all these years later, Champions were hard to get unless you spent money on the packs that gave you everyone. I played the game for years....still don't have everyone. I still occasionally get an itch for the game but always remember getting burned over and over again especially since characters I once enjoyed and had fun with no longer being viable nor fun.
Battleborn was my favorite game over Overwatch
I recall playing Pladins and Overwatch back in the day, I have fond memories of playing both and yeah Paladins was always criticized for being a rip off but it genuinely had its own merits if you played both, you would have felt the difference
I hate that Paladins is categorised an Ow clone.
Like Paladins came to open beta a 2 months after Overwatch open beta. Like there is no way someone copied overwatch in 2-3 months.
Yeah a fair amount of titles shouldn't be here tbh they came out before overwatch.
The pvz section was really egregious and reeks of zero research.
We have to difference Class based Shooters and Hero shooters, yeah, both of them come from the same root of Role Based Shooters, however as time went on, both did evolution trough different paths, the simplest way do difference them is by how they are updated, Class bassed shooters add more abilities and weapons for their classes, and hero shooters add new heroes.
Prime example for a Class based shooter is TF2.
Prime example for a Hero shooter is Overwatch.
Then you have hybrids like Star wars battlefront that has both Classes and Heroes.
PvZ Garden Warfare 1 and 2 are Class based shooters, and PvZ battle for neighbourville is a Hero shooter.
Hero design revolves around the fantasy and role of a character.
Class design revolves around gameplay mechanics and the role that class will have on the game, doesn't necessarily has to obey the fantasy of a character.
Let's say for example that we want to give Mercy an Scrap gun, we couldn't do that beacuse it would feel off for the character. But now we would give a shotgun to the medic from TF2, yeah, it will also feel off for the fantasy of the character, but it wont feel as off from gameplay mechanics as it is not the only option for gameplay variety that the medic already has, we already have fat scout, demoknight, so a shotgun medic wont feel so out of place.
as someone who kinda prefered the sky high movement of advanced warfare more than the traditional cods, i wonder if there are any other games that lean into the advanced movement
Bleeding Edge failed so bad that even Rocket Sloth forgot it 😢
Actually Battleborn came first and it was not a clone because Battleborn was already in production by the time OverWatch was announced plus OverWatch does not have a PVE or individual character missions where is battleborn had all that and more at the beginning !
plus battleborn also has a gear system again something OverWatch does not have so what are you talking about?😅🎉
Garden warfare 1 also released before ow and before battleborn even.
The only pvz it applies to is battle for neighborville but that game has a disastrous history that's is it's own story.
This video is poorly researched and it feels like they just didn't care to check at some points.
paladins is sick got the mega edition baack in season 1 hurts it takes like 5 mins to find a lobby now, and at least on EU everyone left playing is toxic sweats :{
Paladins became stale for me. Don't know how it is now but it got nothing. And the balancing was bad.
I’ve been on and off mainly casually and it feels the same tbh, they need a paladins 2 overhaul
Paladins still has about 5000 active players at least on Steam.
I didn't even know half of these games existed. I would have played Quake Champions out of this list. You guys should get THE BALD MAN to watch your videos lmao
I came here to say the same thing everyone already said about garden warfare
GW2 slander will not be tolerated 12:34
b04 was pretty fun
8:08 C’mon! “BattleReborn” was right there! Such a missed opportunity…
I'm so glad I'm one of the people who got to enjoy Team Fortress 2 at its peak
Shot out to Gigantic, glad u came back
The bias in this video is colossal
And the amount of research is abysmal.
You definitely don't know your shit when it comes to PvZ and it shows
Paladins > Overwatch 2
Bro thinks any hero shooter is a copy of overwatch
Even the ones that released before it 😂.
UT2 Liandri Conflict was very unique, It was the only version of Unreal Championship 2 on the Xbox and it had this third person parkour shooter and melee combat system to it
I play tested Rocket Arena in it's pre-alpha build. It was fun at first but it quickly be came apparent it need time in development. I recommended to the representatives of the developers to add more game modes and focus on the core gameplay. I see now that they didn't listen to us. oh well
Bleeding edge from Ninja Theory got no mention here and despite its mixed reception I found it enjoyable. Wonder if its still playable
Paladins isnt a failure! It has 5,300 players RIGHT NOW on STEAM alone!
I've never understood why "hero" games of any kind are prone to getting some of the most varied and interesting characters, especially uncommon species like a squirrel
Early CoD was like a hero shooter? Wat?
This was introduced in the console only CoD3 game. I know that CoD popularity skyrocketed on consoles and went full mainstream after the release of CoD4:MW. That said, the original CoD didn't have that, like at all.
Putting “battleborn” in a video about “over watch” clones has gotta be the most brain dead video game take I’ve ever seen… BB literally came out first🤣
Should’ve put paragon on here somewhere since it has a lot of attempts to come back and a lot of lore😂

Only reason to get a PS5 is if you enjoy single player adventure games. Spider-Man, God of War, Ghosts of Tsushima, etc.
Bro is cooling everything a hero shooter now. Brah
Battleborn was better than Overwatch in every way, and that's proven by the Overwatch fan base crying that their game wasn't more like Battleborn, only to have Overwatch 2 STILL fail to live up to Battleborn
Seriously, 5v5 and a 5 player co-op PvE was a thing when Battleborn released BEFORE Overwatch
But Blizzard fanboys are always swayed by Blizzard marketing
If I'm being honest, I didn't mind BO4 zombies. I'm very prone to dying in early rounds so the extra health system was awesome for me. I didn't really like the new zombie lore much but it wasn't abysmal
Does anyone here remember a game called Loadout?
