    *This video was set to not alert subscribers* This is only being posted publicly due to people asking on our discord. I made this video and decided to not post it and just sat on it. *I do not think this video is good* but people kept requesting it because they were having issues with getting started in the F-16. The original intent of this video was to act as a time stamp and a reference point to look back on. I have not flown modern in 2 years and never flown the F-16 before. I particularly do not like flying this stuff but BMS has a very compelling campaign and I am actually having a lot of fun. I have already made some great strides since the recording of this video so I may make more concise videos that follow the progress of a campaign. This video was filmed a month ago so this was filmed the day I installed BMS.

      The one way I could enjoy BVR fights in DCS is to conceptualize it like I was playing one of the old submarine games. Getting a torpedo to hit another sub is a lot like trying to get an AIM-7 or AIM-120 onto a guy 40 miles away. I just told myself I was playing Silent Hunter at 30,000 ft.

      BMS. Never gotten into it. Was trying to before Lock On was released in 2003, but didn't have Falcon 4 either, so I bought that (what a box!), got BMS 1.32 and failed deliberately. The original tutorials were completely broken, there were no new ones to account for that and there was no manual, the Tube didn't even exist. The readme literally told me to google the dash 1 online. That's what made me quit it - but I was going to try it again somewhere around 2008-2010ish, YT was already a thing, but noone had tutorial videos up there, especially for BMS. Manual situation was exactly the same, so I happily went back to my Black Shark. Next time I gained interest in trying it again was when ED announced the Viper. Well, BMS still has no VR support to this date as far as I know... I simply can't, Pancake flying is like "flying" RC. I just can't, unless it's the old 90s sims that I fire up every now and then. I guess I'll never see myself in BMS, but I also don't have a lot of spare time for it anyway. I do respect it though for what it is and it still has that campaign advantage over DCS which is a massively huge thing for offline players.

      I spent hours looking at all of the weapons and vehicles in one of the main menus.. then spent a couple hours setting up my hotas, then spent time fighting with my G2 because it was loading up at some crazy resolution and running at 1 fps or less.
      Learned all the details of the dynamic campaign and set that up...
      Finally got in the plane and had no idea how to start it. So I gave up.
      I've flown many planes on DCS, including the F/A 18 a lot.. but had no clue how to start the F 16

    If anyone is using this as a startup tutorial, be aware that we found that it's usually better to wait until ~25% RPM to bring the throttle to idle (clicking the "cowlick"). Just waiting for SEC to extinguish and 20% seems to have a decent chance of causing a hot start.
    Not sure how realistic that is, there's footage here on youtube of an F-16 starting up with fuel introduced at 20% RPM and not burning itself up, but who knows, it takes like ten more seconds for the RPMs to climb up there and it has thus far avoided a hot start every time.

Even if not designed that way, this video is actually a VERY good tutorial without being dense and formal on specific systems. After playing this game for a month, I can say that I still think the F-16 is an incredibly boring plane because of how streamlined it is. Now despite that, I am still playing BMS, this is really a nod to how compelling the scenario is in the dynamic campaign. Nice video! They did alot of work since that Video came out, so this startup sadly is outdated.
    I am still new, but:
    1. don't do any fuel/engine feed before you start up the turbine, or it overheats/catches fire
    2. after you start it up you need to wait until it is at 20-25% RPM (right panel) and then click that little lever to go in idle (idk, i said i am a beginner :D )
    3. right panel under the arm rest has cooling, put it on or you will overheat and get warnings or catch fire.
    To hide the Pilote Model the shortcut is "alt+C : P" which means: "Press 'alt+C' wait a tiny bit (about half a second) and press P" you also can turn it off in the launcher now.
    Also the nose-wheel-steering is a hidden button on the back side of the stick (as far as i know), so get a key ready for NWS.
    I don't try to complain that a 1 year old video does not have this in it, i just imagine all the newbies that just found out about BMS and now sit in a F16 that is covered in smoke, because it catched fire :D

It makes it way easier to rebind keys and HOTAS controls (native BMS control binding is not user friendly). It also comes with several 3rd party program links that really enhance the experience. For instance, you can use the Weapon Delivery Planner to save mission data to your in-game kneeboard so you can look at airport data, frequencies, IFF codes, steerpoint info, etc. during a mission, in case you forget. Hopefully this helps.

    Thanks for sharing this! It does show why Falcon BMS seems daunting to me, but great watch regardless. Not about this vid, but about others that DO say they're guides, they presume knowledge that presumes knowledge that presumes knowledge. And an encyclopedia full of abbreviations. They seldom explain why you're following the steps you're following. I guess it's also a problem of 'modern' with all it's systems, which is why I keep 'giving up' and go back to WWII warbirds ghehe, where I'm not following steps as much as knowing what's actually mechanically happening under the hood. That kinda appeals to me :).

      @@ZaytexYT Thanks! Yes, agreed. I dabbled. However, still pretty daunting, as it's absolutely chock full of abbreviations and links to other manuals, also filled with abbreviations. I guess the trouble I'm having with the manual is that it's super complete. It's not something you can read in one go and remember. The scope is great, but it's difficult to gauge where to start. I guess that's where the tutorial manuals come in and I could use the other manuals as a reference, but It's a pretty big threshold/hurdle for me still. On the other hand, I do see the fun in slowly learning and having things click. The complexity does trigger me to want to actually learn as an act of resistance. Which is why I just watched another hour long video on BMS and replied to it I guess haha.
      I guess what I'm also saying on the side is, I wish there was something like BMS and it's dynamic campaign (and decent enemy AI) for older jets and warbirds too!

      @@bloyamindYeah, it sure is a packed manual, which can be a little discouraging at the start. Like you said, it's almost impossible to read in one go, so what i would recomend is picking something that you want to learn, whatever it is and do that till you really get it.
      At the end of the day, what really matters is if you're having fun while doing it or not, so do what you enjoy doing.
      Btw, IL2 is a good option for older birds. The campaign is not that good compared to BMS tho.

    i really enjoyied this video! one suggestion is when you are getting close to a target to reduce the range of the radar. example the first contact your radar was set to 160 and the contacts were at the very bottom of the screen, if you would have decreased the range to 20 or 40 it allows you to see the picture easier. also at the top row of buttons on the radar mfd there is a word NORM this is for normal view of the radar, if you press it, EXP will show up and its for expand and it will allow you to break out targets that are bunched very close together. on the hsd page there is a DEP and a DCPL if you press them one will bring the view to the center of the page and the other one makes the hsd follow the same distance as the radar. so if you zoom out the radar the hsd will zoom out to, if you zoom in the hsd does too.
    i enjoy seeing the variety of games you get into and it is cool to see a noob learn the ropes of a new game to them.

I stopped to play DCS as I got stuffed with server play and fact that nobody flies JF 17 there. If i am not in 16 or 18, you are not in DCS and that is sad. Also, need to buy all those maps is way too expensive honestly.

    How far was the nearest alternate airfield after getting hit ?
    Despite not having fired up Falcon BMS in years, it's etched in my memory that the glide ratio for the F-16 is 7:1, or if conservative and remembering the original Falcon 4.0 manual, for every 1000 ft of altitude, you can glide 1 nm, since 1 nm = 6076 ft.
    After being hit at 25K ft, you should be able to glide for at least 25nm. Just maintain the attitude that keeps a constant airspeed, and that should maximize the glide distance.

      Hey Mav same thought, but it'd be quite an achievement to teach somebody how to restart engine "on the fly" :D Someone should invite Enigma for proper online training session. BMS is so much more fun and far less frustration if you know what you're doing :D

    The launch warning was blaring at you for like 20 seconds before you did anything. He probably should have briefed you on what it sounded like. Guess this is your introduction to the F-16 since it makes the same sound in DCS. Also anything you learn in BMS regarding the use of F-16 systems for the most part transfers to DCS, at least for important things.

    • @Enigma89
      @Enigma89  Год назад +3

      I don't fly F-16s, this was my first time. I mostly fly Russian planes so the RWRs are mostly suggestions more than anything on top of that I have a massive disdain for fighting AI so I simply did not respect it. It was clear after the first sortie that the AI in BMS is smarter than I thought so I had to use the last month to adjust and adapt. I wasn't really planning on posting this video but people asked me to so I thought it would be nice to show what DAY 1 looked like to contrast it with future videos where I know what I am doing.

    • @NuclearFalcon146
      @NuclearFalcon146 Год назад +2

      @@Enigma89 Yeah, the AI in Falcon 4.0 caught me off guard many years ago. I was used to the AI in Falcon 3.0 and Janes USNF and ATF, which was much easier to cheese. I would imagine that BMS even has improvements over vanilla Falcon 4.0 AI and is something to be wary of. Also missile guidance in BMS is superior to DCS from what I hear. They path better and as a result have considerably longer effective ranges than they do in DCS. What looks like out of range in DCS may be well within range in BMS. I remember in vanilla 4.0 and Allied Force that I would regularly land AMRAAM hits at 40 miles. Yes it can be done in DCS but they seem harder to evade in BMS.

    Dude! I learned so much about the F-16 in this video. I downloaded BMS because of your channel, and I tried what your friend did with the Sniper pod in DCS with the Litening pod. It works almost the same.
    I was using dogfight and missile override modes to switch between long range and short range engagements. Knowing more ways to switch between missiles and use the MFDs is great to have. Same with where all the tacan and fuel economy stuff is off the DDI.
