This server will act as a good place for a lot of people who couldn't find a home with the existing servers and to offer up the ability to play 80s without CTLD. I have always thought that the Greyflag model is the one that has the most potential to scale in DCS Multiplayer and this server leans in that direction. The PVP vs PVE choice in DCS has always been so stark but this server really approaches it from a good angle and they really did a good job of meshing both worlds together. It's a really special place and I think this will have a lot of appeal for people. A question for a bit of clarification, i logged in today (both on 80's and cold war), looking for a free slot on an F-14A, but despite them being listed in unengaged blues, and being listed in the filters of aircraft, i couldn't find any selectable, occupied or otherwise. Are they reserved planes for admins or something?
@@ilejovcevski79 If it is the same as ECW server, you need credits (earned by taking enemies down, scouting and Ground pounding, you earn the points if/when you land on a friendly airfield).

This server is REALLY good. It's the mix of players and AI that I've been wanting to see a DCS server try for a very long time, and it all gets tied together with the mission system. The mission system (and accompanying audio!) does a fantastic job of not just directing the players (and AI), but it also serves as an ingame tutorial, since by flying the missions you'll start to understand how the server works, and what it takes to accomplish the objectives. It gets players and AI working together, doing a teamwork, even if they don't know it. This is a server and mission format that I really want to see succeed because the mission design, game mode, and polish here are spectacular. This is my new benchmark for DCS mission design.
I've been taking a hiatus from DCS since around the time the F-4 came out. For no reason other than the amount of time it takes to play and complete an objective, and my busy schedule. With that said. This video has ignited a desire to return and play on this server specifically, where I would be able to manage my time more effectively with AI taking over something I may have started, or maybe even just finishing off a capture in a quick sortie, rather than having to wait for something like that in player dependent servers. Thanks for highlighting this, I would not have known it existed.
I really really want a 50s-60s server. I dropped out of ECW about a year ago when my hardware died, and rebuilt it but never got back into DCS. I want to get back on, but it seems like everything is still 70s-80s focused, and with the advent of the F4, just doesn't seem like it's where I belong; it was challenging enough without it. I would really like a functioning and populated Korea server, but I know this just isn't what people want to play and that's really the crux of the problem.
Thanks for bringing it to my attention. I have not tried this server yet. Being a frequent visitor on the Contention Server, I find the idea a little weird to have AI and human players. They fight differently and not knowing if youre fighting AI or human seems a little worrying to me. But I'll give it a try.
That's sort of the draw to the server. DCS suffers with everything being super telegraphed - the game feels soooo sterile all the time. Having AI added into the mix adds an additional layer that obscures in formation and you have to start thinking how you want to approach things. It does suck when you may go after an AI and die for it but the advantages of having an AI being able to prop up a team when its dramatically underpop is amazing and cannot be understated.
Thanks Enigma - I like if AAR is done ok, TACANS and ACLS are up and running. It's nice if weather and time of the day varies. I am in heaven when the feeling of flying is kind of interactive, you are part of the whole system, just one piece of something bigger than yourself.
Wow. Awesome. I don't have a gaming computer but, Im ex Naval aviation, a medically retired airline captain. I know now own a small construction company. In 6 days Im having brain surgery. These simulation games, including Microsoft Flight Sim and X-plane have become so amazingly realistic and I miss flying. I think the simulation could be very enjoyable.
Very cool, will definitely check it out. One of the great things about the ECW server was the balanced plane set. Hopefully that will be a consideration to avoid the Hornet & Viper dominating all the older and less-capable planes, and homogenizing the experience.
I've been playing BMS recently as the dynamic campaign is a ton of fun. This seems to offer the same vibe so I'll definitely be checking it out. All my modules have been sitting collecting rust!

Wow, this is incredible. It's like Air DOTA. This is what I always wanted but assumed was impossible. Before work today I did a strike in viggen where i had to blow up a particular set of buildings for points for me and morale for the team, and got killed by an AI fishbed while turning cold after releasing my mav Ts. Then I was gonna go finish the job because i missed two of the buildings when there were two player flankers dropping bombs on my base, so I switched to an A/A loadout and chased them down, and I caught them, never turned on my radar so they didn't know I was there, but my missiles wouldn't release for some reason. I was debugging and debugging for so long with this flanker 2ship in my hud begging to get rb-74s up their tailpipes before I looked at the external plane view and realized my gear was still down and that's why the missiles wouldn't separate, and then I asploded because an AI Fulcrum had come to the rescue of the oblivious players. Seriously, why isn't every pvp server like this, this is great.

I am enjoying the server a lot. I was a big fan of Pretense, so this is like an evolution of that. As someone who can only Hop On randomly for usually short periods of time, the mission system is a boon: I can feel like 'I want to do a quick *whatever* sortie', and I can, AND I am contributing. My one gripe is that their servers are so advanced that you have to reference their manuals but the manuals are missing some information or don’t mention certain things.
well thought out and done, but the airfields don't have mandpas soldiers and needles, they don't have artillery, they don't have equipment and armored vehicles in a moving column and there are no SKAD cruise missiles and tomahawks, AS WELL AS AIRCRAFT CARRIERS AT SEA 😏😏🤷♂🤷♂
From the time I've been on it, still seems like it's still the usual completely unrealistic dcs air quake solo pvp and mainly solo flying even in pve though instead of any type of coordinated human flight or package flying eh?
Its very interesting that the server is filled with AI too and balance teams with more or less AI depending on number of olayers. Many PVP servers lacks that and they end up being a heavy weight balance to one side or the other depends on aircraft popularity and such Good job for shadow reaper and I hope more player go there! I've been trying to join this server but it returns me error saying I am a newcomer and try again later when I have more experience!?!? I've been playing DCS more than 5 years!
Hopefully this doesn’t cause the server to got spammed. Whole reason I loved shadow reapers was being a down low more modern Cold War server.
I’ve flown on this server a couple months ago and it’s not even in the same league as it is now. I’ve flown with Xerxes a couple times before and he is a great dude who is always involved with his community. I can’t wait to see how he will change the dcs community for the better!
My one gripe is that their servers are so advanced that you have to reference their manuals but the manuals are missing some information or don’t mention certain things.
What aircraft can be operated on the server?
Everything but it is fox1/fox2 no ER and no ET too.
As someone who hops in/out at rando times solo and likes a mix of ground pounding + PvP? Looks pretty fucking ideal tbh.
i wish it was on caucasus
bonus @why485 jumpscare
still dont get why ddcs hasnt been mentioned they have been doing this for over 6 years now but better with way more features.
I did try no luck it just sat at the map screen 😢
what is cltd?
Sadly Razbam dispute is still there, so i wont play dcs until ist resolved
Over-G
Over-
well thought out and done, but the airfields don't have mandpas soldiers and needles, they don't have artillery, they don't have equipment and armored vehicles in a moving column and there are no SKAD cruise missiles and tomahawks, AS WELL AS AIRCRAFT CARRIERS AT SEA 😏😏🤷♂🤷♂
whats ctld
Finally a dynamic server
From the time I've been on it, still seems like it's still the usual completely unrealistic dcs air quake solo pvp and mainly solo flying even in pve though instead of any type of coordinated human flight or package flying eh?
Its very interesting that the server is filled with AI too and balance teams with more or less AI depending on number of olayers. Many PVP servers lacks that and they end up being a heavy weight balance to one side or the other depends on aircraft popularity and such
Good job for shadow reaper and I hope more player go there!
Also, whats CTLD?
Cough 148th rogues. Cough
Aren't you going to war thunder though....
I play all the sims. Why would you only just play one?
