Fallout 4 is an RPG with a lot more mechanics than the average player thinks, with Lunchboxes being one of those unique mechanics. With a total of 159 scattered across the commonwealth, I'm pretty sure the average player has opened one or two of these bad boys, but ultimately its somewhat of a useless mechanic due to the drop pool being mostly Junk...
HOWEVER, we changed that today, with the new Lunchbox Lootbox mod made by RedYeti (linked below). This mod will change the drop pool of the Lunchboxes to only be legendary weapons and armor. Adding Lootboxes to the world of Fallout 4...

@WeesloYT wherever will he find super sledge ammo your right why didn't I think of that. Also aside from the 7.62 debacle the weapons he found only took 308 10mm and energy cells so not exactly scrounging for mini nukes here

Should have removed the rifle you can't get ammo for at least. The revolver is probably fine.
I think they removed some of the layers from the normal legendary loot generation code in making the mod and messed things up as a result though. As the normal legendary loot table is 1/2 armour, 1/3 guns, 1/6 melee. So seeing as much melee and as few guns as he did is a bit odd. There are however many more melee weapons options than gun options so if you had just made a "weapons" list flattening things it would probably look like what we saw.
On the armour side similarly the game is normally twice as likely to generate most base game armour types vs. the dlc ones. If you flatten the lists you will accidentally undo that and see a lot more DLC stuff because more than half of the game's armour sets come from the DLCs.
i noticed when i use mods that integrate DLC weapons and armor it seems like most enemies will drop Nuka world loot or the trapper armor! especially trapper armor! i use more legendary enemies and it got so bad that i got a mod to remove armor drops altogether from the legendary loot pools (i also wanted to get some modded weapons to drop legendary and that helped tremendously)

0:21 my first thought regarding finding a fusion core inside of a lunchbox is that that'd just be like, opening it up and just finding it filled to the brim with gasoline or something, but then looking it up and seeing that an average rectangular solid lunxbhox has a volume of slightly over a gallon and that gasoline is roughly $5 a gallon it makes it really funny that you could genuinely fill a lunchbox to the brim with fuel for the price of a cheap toy lmao.
Redxyeti should make an actual lootbox challenge. When viewers donate/sub or whatever it is they also get Jabo a certain tier of lootbox which will give him any sort of equipment from weapons, armor, medical supplies, etc.

Not sure if you know this but using the automation dlc, you can actually make more lunch boxes that can be popped open for loot and then recycle them back into more lunch boxes
Wait you can make vault tech lunch boxes on an assembly line, break them open then drop them back on the conveyor?
Not sure if this is a joke about the streams but during the streams of this run many people also said this and everytime he said those ones do not pop open like the naturally spawned ones
my favorite thing about all this is the sheer velocity the lunchboxes fling in a random direction after Jabo opens one

This reminds me of a really fun run I did awhile ago, legendary gun game! The rules were I start with the pistol in vault 111 and from then on the only weapons and armor I am allowed to equip are legendary weapons and armor, but the trick is if one drops I have to equip it and it replaces whatever I had equipped before. Unequipped items will never be used again. Shop items are allowed, and very hard difficulty (or survival) for maximizing the legendary drop rate. It was a hectic and fun run, and I had to deal with tons of crap weapons

Jabo, I was watching Fallout 3 millionaire, and you've sparked an amazing challenge idea in my mind! I hope you'll consider giving it a try someday, i think it would be most fun in Skyrim but would work in any bethesda game or roulette even:
Bethesda "Start Fresh" Challenge
Overview:
In this challenge, after completing a quest, you must discard or sell all your equipment and continue relying only on what you can loot during the next quest. This applies to weapons, armor, and ammunition, forcing you to adapt and survive with whatever resources you can scavenge. Consumables like potions, stimpaks, or food are unrestricted, but magic is banned.
Core Rules:
1. Gear Reset After Each Quest:
After completing a quest, you must discard, sell, or store all your weapons, armor, and ammunition (ammo should maybe be optional i dunno).
Start the next quest with absolutely nothing except your fists and your wits. You may keep potions, scrolls, food, etc.
2. Post-Quest Looting:
You can only equip items (weapons, armor, ammunition) found during the next quest.
Loot must come from enemies, quest-related containers, or the environment tied to that quest.
3. Combat Entry:
Rely on looting mid-combat to survive.
Use stealth, environmental traps, or barehanded combat until you find better equipment.
4. Prohibited Abilities:
Skyrim: No spells. Only Shouts are allowed.
Fallout:
V.A.T.S. is allowed.
Weapon and armor modding is allowed, but only if there’s a crafting bench located in the quest environment. You can only use materials found during the quest.
Starfield: No special powers unless explicitly required by the quest.
5. Consumables:
Healing items like potions, stimpaks, and med packs are unrestricted and can be used at any time.
Food and drink may also be looted and consumed freely.
Optional Rules for Added Difficulty:
One Weapon Type: Stick to one type of weapon (e.g., bows in Skyrim, pistols in Fallout, or rifles in Starfield).
Hardcore Roleplay: Only loot items that align with your character’s backstory or moral alignment.
Ironman Mode: If you die, restart the quest and discard any loot obtained so far.
Challenge Goal:
Complete a major storyline (e.g., Skyrim’s main quest, Fallout’s faction questline, or Starfield’s main story) with these restrictions.

You should do a run where you disable experience entirely and you have to rely solely on skill books and bobbleheads and stuff to get your stats up. Maybe make it so that each gives you a skill point as well (or two if it already gave you one) so you can still take perks?
