Thanks Jake. You have so many great bits and a very likable style. I've been a fan since your first warnings about aliens peeling their faces off. The MACC on Maui is a great comedy venue and they treat the Talent and their families very generously. If you get an opening for a few days of R & R, Maui is the spot.
I Jake This whenever the kids are at school, and I get some alone time. It helps me relax. Seriously, Jake is one of THE absolute top comedians in the modern age. I remember seeing "This Will Take About An Hour" in 1991. It changed everything for me comedy-wise. I was hooked. I consider myself a connoisseur of funniness, so that should mean a lot. It doesn't, but it should.
I love when a good comedian writes his material to play off the reaction he knows will come from the audience, like the point where they react with the grossed-out noises when he mentions applying the bad-tasting salve to the dog's butt, which he then SEEMS to respond to off the cuff but is actually very much part of the scripted bit. Jake's a comic genius!
When the Holy City Zoo comedy club in San Francisco closed many years ago, they invited comic after comic to come in and do a whole evening of sets. I laughed so hard at all of them I thought that it would be the end of me. Then they rolled out Jake Johannsen. No mercy. He told a story about camping that I can't remember a bit of, but I do remember my face practically falling off. My head hurt and my jaws felt like I had had four years of dental work.
"Safety rhyme: I'm gonna shoot that guy, let's have some pie." Another hilarious pie-related bit by Jake Johannsen. I'll admit, I don't remember the context, only the punchline. But I think it was from an appearance he made on a Halloween special produced by a local TV station in Minneapolis, probably in 1989. OMG, I found a clip of the bit. It's from a Tonight Show appearance in 1989 ruclips.net/video/2M9Bn7vixPw/видео.html
I don't completely remember it myself, but I do remember he was talking about road rage in that bit. It too was hilarious, as is everything Jake ever did.

Fully agree; This Will Take About An Hour was an absolute masterpiece!
Just watched that a few days ago. Good stuff ... it brought me here.
Jake has the brain and the time, and he churns this weird stuff that falls below the mundane radar the rest of us have.
LOL! Always awesome no matter how many times I see these sketches!
Always outstanding!
When you're having an "off" day, a little Jake will fix it right quick!
First time I heard Jake WAS in Letterman, THANKS DAVE!

from Venice Beach, California, by way of Iowa City, Iowa, weighing 175 pounds, Jake Johannsen
I just love the 'knife season' thing! I have odd thoughts from time to time, but the hunting knife thing would never have occurred to me!
JFC you are a funny man. I laughed until I stopped.
