    Gen 6 aluminum heads may be hard to find. Those large oval heads are non adjustable rockers but you do have a 4 bolt main 9.8 deck 1 0iece seal block with a steel crank (not cast in most boat engines) meaning it can handle more HP and it should have good dot rods and flat top pistons with valve reliefs. The cam should make tons of torque to.

    I wish I had my 40 year old body back, but at 69 Im not doing to bad. I was wondering why did the engine have a power steering pump on it? Was that to turn the lower unit on the boat? Its good you have an Oreilys with knowledgable people. I have been in the one where I live only a few times and they would look for muffler bearings if you asked for them. I usally go to Auto Zone and they know cars there, one guy was a big help on a power steering pump replacement I did last year.

    Square port intake on an oval port set of heads

  • @artscott2677
    @artscott2677 8 месяцев назад +4

    Just now getting to see this episode. Love the 55 project and really enjoyed this. I would like to point out a few of things that I noticed: 1. If you look at the distributor drive gear on the one you pulled out, it looked like a bronze gear. I couldn't tell if the one you installed had a steel or iron gear. If it is iron, take it out and replace it with one recommended by Summit. The roller cams are steel and can eat that distributor gear or cam gear up really quickly. This actually applies to all roller cams and distributor gear combinations, not just BBC 2. It appeared that y'all have a rectangular port intake and the stock heads are oval port. Maybe the gasket mismatch you noticed. The mismatch will likely cause power and tuning issues. That can be solved if you decide to get some aluminum heads just order the rectangular ports. One thing to consider when buying heads is that the Marine engines are very low compression. They had one on Engine Masters and the guys said it was around 8:1 so you would want to consider that when sizing combustion chambers and if you replace the cam. Good luck and I can not wait until the next 55 episode.

    nice build. before a head swap I would look at the possibility of having the wrong intake. The heads are oval port heads and it looks like the manifold is for square bore heads. Also switch the valve cover side to side. the one on the passenger side should needs to go on the driver side to add some space for the brake booster.

    The only problem i see from what i can remember marine engines when you convert to automotive you have to change the head gaskets same as when you take a car engine and go to marine same deal the automotive you a thinner gasket and marine use a thicker gasket because in a boat the motor runs cooler trying to run a marine engine in a car will run hotter under more direct load and blow the head gasket you need to get the thinner automotive gaskets !! to handle the heat and compression for the load !!
