Germans talking about their better quality watches over the Swiss ones reminds me of the Frenches saying they have "better bankers" :-D . Quality and Elegance are timeless. Arrogance is finite even before it has been revealed, like a sudden and unorganised sound disappearing behind the discret and constant tic-tac of my Swiss Made watch ...
That only 60% of a watch need have its value originate from Switzerland in order for it to be sold as _Swiss Made_ seems a bit absurd,, and no real assurance of quality.
There's quality control in the 60% requirement, but is there a quality control of that 60%? What stops someone from opening a shoddy manufacturer in Switzerland just to get the "60% made in Switzerland" mark without any of the historical quality supposedly ingrained? And what of other places that make similar products, what makes Swiss design/manufacture special in this day and age compared to others, other than history?
MR PORTER - Why don't you put out a video exposing China's influence on the Swiss watch industry, both inside Switzerland, and abroad. Also, the Swiss law governing watches is so broad - it's ridiculous. Consumers looking to buy a true Swiss made watch, have the right to know when the wool is being pulled over their eyes.
I really hope this series continues. 🙏
Appreciate the animation! Great work!
Beautiful content as always, Mr. Porter!
Swiss made watches are fine and all but I much prefer the sundial. There are less moving parts and less prone to needing repair.
I just found out I am from Switzerland so this was kinda cool to learn :) New friend Ruthie

Is this the voice of Mr Porter himself?
Why is it always referred to as the "quartz crisis" rather than the "quartz revolution"? Surely a Seiko 5 beats any of these smurfs
Super Marko Marin because it’s directly related to the mechanical watch manufacturing industry not just time keeping.
@@fd6661 maybe you should ask the watch makers at Grand Seiko or Seiko on what they think... or better yet, ask Jack Forster
When seiko and orient give you so much for so little it’s very hard to justify the Swiss made price tax
Well, you're paying for the work the men and women put into the watch and of course the brand.
What makes them special? Marketing. That's literally it. There are plenty of German and Japanese brands that are better deals for the money.
Given that Panerai is an Italian brand, didn't realize that they were "Swiss Made." Interesting.
As Panerai puts it themselves: Italian design with swiss technology
Why Japanese watches so special???
I'm over hear wearing a Japanese Grand Seiko
John Calvin is the man.
nice video, ilike so much, connected and follow!
I mean, quartz watches tick as well? Perhaps even more so "heartlike" than mechanical movements, lol
🤙🏻
This is the quintessential example of having too much time on your hands.

this video barely answers the WHY Swiss watches are special....
German watches > Swiss watches
Still "swiss made" printed label
Yes, and you have to buy that "SWISS MADE" pattern from USA!
