Stormgate is fantastic if you like 1v1 RTS. If you're here for 2v2 or 3v3 multiplayer or campaign, you REALLY need to wait for them to develop it more.
Basically, Starcraft II at home then. Its a shame, too. I think they would have more success with imitating the style of Starcraft I. Dark, gritty, and with high stakes, but it still had time to have fun and good humor. The artstyle is too bright and seemingly unfinished for my tastes. They even copied the Spear of Adun bar one for one
Some of my first joys of having my first home computer in 1998 was playing the first version of Starcraft. Many nights after work trying to beat stages and figuring out strategies. The game got me throigh a long recovery from a leg injury. Great memories. My kids loved it.
Some other RTS to look forwards to if disappointed from Stormgate: - ZeroSpace - Gosworm - Tempest Rising - Dust Front and my personal favorite: IMMORTAL: Gates of Pyre
EA was not a strong start. Already charging for heroes, uninspired art direction, unfinished campaign, goofy voice acting. They have done a terrible job explaining what parts are early and what parts are more or less finished.
I would still enjoy StarCraft II if blizzard got off their high horse and patched in 21:9 screen format support. What I love about StarCraft II which isn't in the majority of games is when you're not in a mission you're in your ship which has a few different areas in the ship. There's the bridge , the cantina , the armory and the science room. Which is really cool in my opinion.
I was a huge SC2 fan I loved it but this just looks like a much lesser version of SC2 coming 10 years later I'd rather go back to SC2 which is still alive and well. My focus is all on ZeroSpace, there are the ones who seems to fully understand my expectations and have taken some real risk trying to innovate, be it in single or multiplayer mode they have a lot of smart and creative ideas I am not really following the developpement of that game but it certainly looks like a sleeper.
why people keep trying to make a SC2, SC2 already exists... RTS is not only SC this genre needs more creativity I still remember WC3 and AOM and AOE3 breaking boundaries, but thats was like 20 years ago... since then nothing new
There was a completely underwater RTS similar to subnautica, but was abandoned like 20-30 years ago Yeah creativity has definitely dried up thats for sure
When i think Buddy AI in RTS games i think of Red Alert 3's Co Commander system for the 3 different campaigns which allowed for actually 2 player co op on every campaign map
Very cartoony. VA sounds like it came from sweetbaby's list. Modern species like the Protoss still battle like it's from the 19th century? Can't the Zerg replacement has some advanced battle warfare too? Same goes to Terran.
Frost Giant thought that Stormgate could replicate the success WarCraft and StarCraft games had in the past, despite the fact that the entire gaming landscape has changed. What they could've done earlier, is if they'd made an innovative feature that would've made Stormgate unique, while also fixing the inherent gameplay design flaws Blizzard had in their -Craft games, like deathballs, bloated UI and a lack of post-launch singleplayer content. As a mostly single-player person, I want the game to have a built-in deathless challenge for the entire campaign.
@@htoaletaarxidatet A formation of units that clump up and form into a ball. One perfect example is in StarCraft II, where units tend to clump up due to the engine's near-perfect pathfinding.
It's more a kin to warcraft than it is StarCraft... Infact it's barely like StarCraft and I think the only reason people compare it to StarCraft is because the vanguard is futuristic... But the factions a very much like: Alliance, Horde and Night Elves from Warcraft.. even then art style is much closer to warcraft and doesn't resembles StarCraft than much....
Although im not a fan of the art style of Stormgate, I'll wait till EA finishes in about a year before I pass my final judgement. But in the mean time, I'd recommend checking out Zerospace, Tempest rising & immortal Gates of Pyre!
RTS isn't really dead, I'd say games that focus more on competitive RTS are dead. Games still pop up that use RTS methods and are successful. Hell Factorio is somewhat RTS and there are games like They Are Billions which are you defending from hordes of Zombies in a similar format.
It does not look promising for the current presentation because they are not bringing anything new other than the design, which I don’t particularly like, but let’s hope that they make a lot improvements for the actual SC3.
These games are awesome for noobs. I mean I was once a noob. But after anyone puts like 1000+ hours into a RTS it’s a serious case of ok been there done that.
Well the Vanguard Goliath look-alike model looks really lame, having to carry a mini gun and unrealistically able to hold it's weight with those tiny legs 😅.
Celestials are not celestial enough. Infernals are not infernals enough. Vanguard are not that vanguardist. Every unit could be from another race as the game is right now. Is a temathic disaster.
Man it's like the worse, Starcraft is one of the hardest game when it comes to apm, action per minute, and I don't see how in the world yon could play this with a a controller. Really the worse.
WRONG ! this is a trash compared to StarCraft 2 ... the unit art dsign is childish it lacks that dark story and gore it lacks interesting mature unit design art
i support smaller companies with less money who is trying to make a big impact than bigger companies with a lot of money like starcraft that piss and do nothing
SC2 was so greedy it ruined a lot. And this was before DLC and micro transactions. it hasn't come back because Activision's greed. you're lucky Bobby Kodick didn't make you pay by the unit. Or by the skateboard in Tony Hawk
Sc2 Wings of Liberty is a sick game with an absolutely great single player campaign if not the best ever made in the genre. They messed the franchise when they started to ''simplify'' the game in Heart of the Swarm. As for the multiplayer it was an awesome period from Wings of liberty to Heart of the Swarm but I quit at that point just before they released Legacy of the Void, I just don't like how they completely changed the mechanics just to welcome newbies, that was really not necessary. The thing is by my own experience the single player campaign is always very important as it should be introduction and tutorial to the multiplayer for newcomers. O saw very little from Stormgate but I already know I am not interested in a game that will be a lesser version of the SC2 I have known and played at the time. When it comes to RTS all my attention is focused on Zero Space, they are daring to take risks and are not just doing a lesser version of starcraft like Stormgate or simply isolating one element of Sc2 to make it a game like Battle Aces does, I think it's just lazy. But for all these games I am getting annoyed by the cartonish graphics they all look the same Blizzardish games, I think it is a bad idea because it does not differentiate these games graphically but it is important for marketing and player's immersion into the game's world.

Wish it had different art direction
they used the same models for the cutscenes and gameplay.... its so terrible when you look them close xD
I mean they're placeholders so it makes sense but probably should've waited to release the campaign.
People saying we shouldnt judge because it isnt finished yet need to stfu. They are shipping a game with worse visuals than 2010 SC2.

Frankly, I think Gates of Pyre did much better work. Lore, graphics, characters... Perhaps you could cover the video about that.
Tell me you dont know SC2 without telling me.
No, it's not

It really is extremely disappointing. Especially after they boasted about how they're going to be the next 10 years of RTS.
