I'm really surprised fender never tried to get a Robert Smith signature Bass VI made. He's probably one of the most famous players of the Bass VI out there.
@@Trentstone121 what for three or four songs? And there's even disagreement on which songs it was used and by who. It'd have to be the "John and George" signature Bass VI, since they shared it.
I have a bass vi and enjoy playing it. I remember seeing an old fender ad for them that said “the bass guitar for the lead guitar player” or something like that
Some years ago I had some Reverb bucks and bought a second hand squire bass vi from Chicago music exchange. One of the best instruments I own. Squire got this one right!
For those one man recording bands out there… like me… this, a drum track of some sort and a regular guitar is all you need. I play singer/songwriter Americana/indie music and man this would make things simple. I’d just play the rhythm guitar parts on this and save the regular guitar for lead/melody work, get a drum track of some sort and just call it a day. This is so versatile and cool. You could use it for regular bass parts, just strumming chords, some sick Ariel Posen/Joey landreth styled lead work and everything in between. What a bad ass instrument.
I bought the same sunburst but Vintage Modified in 2018. This year I changed colour to Shell Pink and pickguard for mint green, and now it's damn cool! I'm playing this through Fender Bassman Silverface 135 from 1979 and nice pedalboard with different kind of overdrives and distortions like Darkglass R7BK Squid, Boss Bass Overdrive and Proco Rat, reverb and from time to time some tremolo. This guitar and my Rickenbacker 4003 are powerfull gear for post rock and indie bands I'm playing :-)
@@flamey70 Its a popular myth that the bridge and trem systems on Fender offsets were poorly designed, but if you think about it, how could Leo Fender allow something like that to pass through R&D? Turns out he didnt. The poor reputation comes from people setting up the guitars like Strats or Teles, with the neck flat against the body and the strings as low to the body as possible. Those offset guitars all originally came with neck shims from the factory, so the necks of these guitars are supposed to be pitched back, with the bridge raised to compensate and allowed to rock back and forth when the trem is used. If the guitar is set up like this, you'd find tuning is stable and the strings stay in their slots.
CME are forecasting more of these by the end of March 2024. Which I hope means that Andertons are getting them too, since they tend to get the same FSR releases as CME.
I always wanted one of these, but thought it was just easier to use a pitch shifter pedal with a normal guitar to tune down a full octave. Obviously not exactly the same thing because of the different scale length, but not too far off on tone.
The middle ground between a bass and a guitar is a baritone guitar. The Bass VI is a bass, despite you can produce vibey, low-tuned chording with it, among other things. Its 'plucky' nature makes it great for doubling basslines, but it is also perfectly serviceable as your only bass; just reduce the twang and use your fingers.
I think people say middle ground because the string guage is so lite, it would technically be a short scale bass, and the string spacing is less than a normal bass.
If you get one of these (and I did), the first thing to do is get the Fender 24-100 bass VI string set. The low E is dreadfully floppy with the set it ships with.
Still waiting for that Player Series Purple Strat with Tortoise Pickguard, aged knobs and Ebony fingerboard maybe if Rosewood`s not a thing anymore. Maybe even locking tuners?
Nice review and cool guitar. Now we need you to play this with the Captn and go on a journey - intro or outro ... Gotta sneak in some Pete Chords while he's playing 🙃
Do Andertons set em nice before sending them out.. I'm still learning all the setting up malarkey... Intonation would be great, as would be -, nice action, no buzzing pick up distance from strings.. And how about truss rod adjustment, straight neck or wonky in the correct way... Am I being too demanding??
Anyone wanting hear a Fender Bass VI should listen to the later Beatles sessions. With Paul on piano or acoustic guitar, John and George would alternate playing a Bass VI. John played one on Let It Be and George played one on Hey Jude. I'm sure there are other examples. What I am not sure of is if they played through a guitar amp or bass amp...
Tbh the on/off per pickup is something that should be in all 3-pickup guitars. There's literally almost no extra cost and you get 2 extra tones from your instrument 🤷♂️
Question: So I’ve been looking for a 6 string bass to play some prog metal like Dream Theater on. Would this be a good bass for that? I really like that the neck is slim compared to a lot of regular 6 string bass guitars and was hoping this could be something that would work for what I’m wanting to do.
Now that's a question. It will sound good on a bass amp too, just not sure if it's better. I actually use a bass amp for ES-335. I play jazz and I just easily get all the mids and mid-lows on my bass amp.
Just a thought: wouldn’t it be possible to stick a slightly shorter neck on that, lighter strings and tune it up as a baritone? (Close as I can afford to a Castedosa.) That will stop my bassist shouting at me .....
I want that.i want the one named 'me'.the purp fender is cool tho.oh I had to put on my special 420 glasses,so its a squire...still cool.it could be a purple mop handle and 1 string and still be cool.
Gotta be honest, I got an Andertons/CME exclusive purple Jazzmaster and it was so sadly done, neck pocket terribly cut, scrapes and crap all down the side of the fretboard, bridge that was lousy to adjust, some crummy alloy on the bridge/vibrato/tuners that responds poorly to skin oils. I put in a year out to get it and it was like, "what?" On the bright side, it actually sounds like a million bucks, which is the only reason I still have it, but the build quality was unforgivable and unexpected. I've had a lot of good experiences with Squier but I don't know what was up with this thing. On the contrary, got a Squier 70s CV P-Bass not long after that, also sight unseen, and it's damn near immaculate, best bass I've ever owned. This thing looks and sounds glorious, but, beware? No slight on Andertons or CME but I was annoyed that my Jazzmaster was allowed to be shipped.
Yeah. I love me some Danish Pete but i wanna hear Rabea use one of these to hear it put to its full life threatening potential. EDIT: as i posted this mr honore' got to feeling it in this outro. And while its still not sheer brutality it definitely is vibing towards some tool territory and that got my attention for sure.

Pretty sure the Beatles win that contest.

The world needs a Bass VI 12 string, with the big smurf hat headstock. A Fender/Squier VI XII? Sign me up.
The last time you did a purple one, I remember asking you to do a matching headstock.
THANK YOU!
Buyers Tip: string this up with the LaBella Bass VI strings. They are the only ones that won’t flop on the low E. If unsure look it up.
Also the Fender 24-100s....
....also upgrade the bridge to a Staytrem

The pickup combinations should be 2^3 = 8. If you include the "tone" switch then the combinations are 2^4 = 16.
2^3-1 = 7 and 2^4-2 = 14, unless you're counting combinations where all pickups are "off".
