A word of appreciation here: Don’t discontinue posting these walking philosophical videos. I really enjoy their relaxing aesthetics and how they create a pleasant vibe with your persona and wisdom combined.
Yes, Jonathan is dealing with the projections of many jealous individuals. I think Jonathan's delivery is fabulous. I listened to all the Girard lectures and loved them. Don't let the haters win!
That's a balanced philosophical treatment of this minor but prominent speck of the human experience: How to deal with haters. Thank you, and I wish you the best.
Biggest cope I’ve ever seen. Let’s pretend I’m a hater, do you truly believe there’s nothing I’m doing that’s more or better than you? Do you really think you’re better in every aspect of life? Surely you know that’s a preposterous claim.
@@BadMannerKorea its not a rule, but often you see criticisms be projections of people's own faults and frustrations. i think the phrase points to that occurence
@@sleepwalker_9 You often do? You can’t possibly know that. You’ve analyzed these people’s lives, or conducted a proper sampling, to come to that conclusion? Nope. You haven’t. Regardless, the OP said “NEVER”, so it’s clearly a false claim by default.
Really appreciate that you apply philosophy to such real and everyday human conditions. You’re doing a lot of good things for a lot of people in your discussions, Johnathan! 😇
You accomplished a handful of different things here, perhaps most meaningfully, you’re showing by example. I’ve watched the first sessions of the Girard series (with the others to follow) and I admit I flinched at the delivery, and smiled at the set, but it would be impossible to simply “sum up” the presentation as robotic or overly formal because at the very moment I’m noticing it, I’m recognizing I have been on both ends of the rehearsed presentation spectrum, feeling stiff when I’m over prepared or fearful of leaving out important points or missing the best articulation of them when I’m free-wheeling it. I love the walking videos and its nice to hear the comfort and spontaneity but there are some statements you make in the Girard series that are so well crafted, and which hold together so beautifully, I am glad you made sure to say them exactly because they brought the idea alive. They were more than accurate, they were concise and succinct in a memorable way. I also appreciate the time the two of you put in rehearsing. It’s a lot of work - I know. The other thing you did here was you took in the criticism with a good mix of vulnerability (open mindedness) and confidence, agreeing where you agreed but sticking with your choice for the purpose it served. You addressed the topic of managing criticism by saying “I’ll go first” then you tried on others perspective with curiosity but also with resilience. Well done. I don’t love the stiffness of the Girard presentations either but the quality of many of those statements and phrases makes me think you got it right doing them carefully rather than casually. As far as the set showing respect to the topic, I’m fine with that too. It’s worth dressing for. Thank you for the good work. I appreciate it.
I see this as a sensitivity-specificity problem: for detecting good criticism, the first half of the video talks about being specific, and the second half talks about being sensitive. The key assumption in the first is that we *are* able to make character judgements of other people. The assumption in the second half is that Amour-propre helps us more than it hurts us, even if it shares with reason the effect of giving you a different perspective. I think it's up to us to specifically know or at least make our own bets on who's likely to be worth listening to in different contexts, and to know which environments make Amour-propre a net positive. Regardless, simply giving nuance to the topic of receiving criticism is an important step. It helps me be patient and not rush to an emotional decision that I could regret later. I appreciate this video a lot.
We all define our "good", it's what allows us to sleep. You are a fighter and shaman, you will change with your growth, do not pay attention to the noise young man -it's meant to distract you from your mission.
Your cadence has bits of Michael Sugrue in his own famous video on Meditations. Hope that's a compliment. These walking casual videos are also so great please keep these up, truly a pleasure.
Thank you for the ‘rant’. It’s good to hear you kept the settings, props, and the clothes. Most often, people don’t know the real reason they don’t resonate with a performance so they pick on elements that have nothing to do with these reasons. I don’t take a lot of pleasure from praises but criticisms really affects me more than they should
I'll admit it took me several videos to warm to the style of presentation, both long and short forms, thinking them a bit too staged and detracting from the messages. Time restrictions gave me the limited times of only being able to listen while driving, and I enjoyed the content without the distractions. I'm now viewing again, but I am seeing the videos in a different light. Maybe it was my preconceptions about what to expect initially, but I appreciate them now. Thank you, please don't stop. 🙏❤
My 2 cents The power of hate and evil must exist. It's tempting it's alluring it's easy it's seductive. The power of love and good and truth is difficult and a constant uphill battle. One cannot exist without the other. Thank you for your videos
It’s very cool that you practice what you preach so to speak. Philosophy not just as intellectual masturbation but as a tool for daily life. I like it my fellow Chinese brother.
Honestly, I'm so agreeable as a personality I wonder if I can ever totally stray from opinions of others being a significant part of my choices. If the pursuit of total IDGAF is really possible. A heuristic I use in the moment if I'm being attacked unfairly is..."if a dog barks at me on the road, do I bark back"
Also, keep producing videos as you see fit. People fall in love with the style of their content creators. Hate just means you are producing things people care about.
I am often hated, and find myself struggling against the authorities of this world, I think I'm met with great resistance because of what I am capable of. Its like the god of this world or the god of the matrix doesn't like Man. To it, it is 666. The beast. the gods I think never liked Man. But Wisdom is our gift, to me it is a God and a liberator. Wisdom is powerful.
Is the bluish tint on your videos a deliberate choice? I don't know I feel like it can be better without the filters but that's just me. Kudos to these types of videos- 'really enjoying the format.
Neitzche said he was most to be envied, even though he was the loneliest. Humans are sad creatures. They're full of envy. Even the angels attack Man. Man has too much authority when turned into a god.
I graduated High school 1982. I worked at mechanic on cars and it was my passion, as I got older I wanted to learn more. 1990. Life experience is greatest teacher, living your life first then go to college later. PhD doesnt mean shit….. Life experience 😅😅
I was surprised by the vicious negative comments on the Shorts I read on your channel. The longer videos require attention and thought so that should tell you something about the commentor. It’s so easy to judge.
this one is correctly titled, as usual ; only the other two small ones are bizarrely titled, as if their titles corresponded to your camera's standard archive name
Honestly, I find many of the "Greats" to be overrated. It’s highly unlikely that half the greatest minds in philosophy just all happened to be concentrated in Ancient Greece. More realistically, their influence is a result of historical preservation and cultural dominance rather than unparalleled brilliance. Plenty of philosophers from other continents & time periods that never get talked about because they weren't at the right place at the right time.
Can anyone link me to Jonathan’s talks or videos on Seneca. I thought I heard him say in the Marcus Aurelius lecture that he had some videos on Seneca. If you see this Jonathan - New follower and I truly enjoy your perspectives on philosophy
When men didn't have an answer to Death and suffering, they formulated the story of God. And when some people don't have a response to criticism they formulate this kind of story of HANDLING.
The Giradian lectures really required high concentration, but the aesthetic, the dress code were 🔥. Am always looking out in your comment section too, I would be very glad to see some "light hearted" comments and hopefully some humor as well😋🫡
If someone doesn't like the setting of your choice, they should stop watching your videos and watch something else in casuals. Accept that your videos are not for them. For me, I love watching your videos. I'm sure they are many who do so too. Keep making videos however you want. Even if you have just 10 audience members listening to you attentively, that's more important than a thousand people who are just doomscrolling.
Why the difference between comments of short term and long term? With long term, people care to listen to you for at least 1 hour. To spend that amount of time, people must care. 10 to 15 minutes isn't much commitment of time. It just changes the composition of your audience. Still love your content nonetheless.

I second! plus the fire outfits :)
I think you mean ‘pleasant’ instead of peasant

I know, thanks. I rest my case.

Seeing the hate you got on X reminded me why I’m so lucky I don’t have to share my knowledge or wisdom. That’s society’s loss, not mine.
Thank you, Jonathan.
People are really petty. It's easy to attack. As my step father used say, you aren't making a difference unless someone is ticked off at you.
It would be interesting to learn about beauty, aesthetics and style from a philosophical point of view.
