Buongiorno maquettisti ! This morning the sky is light grey, kind of humbrol Matt147 but is turning to a darker Matt 64 very quickly , so a bit of fighting in the warm sands of Tunisia with this Diana is welcome ! Angriff !!!

Hi Andy. Yes I will gladly build the tracks for you when you decide to take on this model. You called it a 'Grille' , I know that is not right. Thr 'Grille' was a name given to a artillery piece mounted on a 'Hetzer , PZ 38 T' chassis. It mounted the SiG 33 gun in an open topped vehicle. It looked like a Marder with a shorter fatter gun.I can't remember its SD number off of the top of my head but I definately know thats what a 'Grille' was. The SWS vehicles were a new series of vehicles to replace the 'Mautiers (Mule) vehicles and some of the lighter halftracks then in use. There were many variants some with flak guns and artillery rockets and one with a high powered IR illuminating light for targeting for tanks. The Diana vehicle was a stop gap to counter the Matilda and Chuchills that the Africa corps were encountering at the time. The Germans had so many of the 7.62 Russians guns that they tried to incorporate them into their inventory. Let me know when you need my help and I will gladly take on the task for you. Good luck bud.

Hi Andy. I never could quite understand why the Germans made this vehicle in this configuration, why not just tow the gun? That would leave more room for ammunition in the truck itself. I know that they captured many of these guns in Russia so they pressed them into service for themselves , but why mount them in the truck ? It looks like a very involved kit , just the sort I like. I don't mind individual track links , it means there's more to do. One thing I will say about them is to cut the single attachment point first. If you do the others first it could snap the link. You will be busy with this one. Now the other two. The SWS is a nice looking model , I would do the open cargo bed version but then put a 2cm flak gun in the back. The other vehicle I think was known as a Mobilwagen. I know that they made a wooden prototype but i,m not sure if they went into production.Again it was another vehicle without a purpous. They already had 88's on the backs of Famo's in the early part of the war , and as for having to unfold those sides before engagement wouldn't have filled me with confidence. I think that they were designed to be part of a defensive line so they could be moved quickly-ish if needed. But again I think that this will be heavy on parts. I hope that you have had a chance to view that video of the London show and have seen my models. Good luck bud.

Hi Brian,i think and i am probably mistaken LOL that it was to counter the thick armour of the Matilda, but whatever the reason when i saw this at Mickeys i had to have it. I you like building tracks perhaps when the time comes i will send them down to you or building a kind of colab-build LOL. your idea or mounting an AA on the SWS is interesting, according to blurb its called a Grille which translates to cricket. parts wise and apart from the goddam tracks the vehicle seems relativelky straight orward though the gun, have never seen so many sprues for a gun,i think there are multiple options and most o the carriage seems to be included.
