CELL
Structure of an animal cell
The cell (from Latin cella, meaning "small room") is the basic structural, functional, and biological unit of all known living organisms. A cell is the smallest unit of life. Cells are often called the "building blocks of life". The study of cells is called cell biology.
Cells consist of cytoplasm enclosed within a membrane, which contains many biomolecules such as proteins and nucleic acids. Organisms can be classified as unicellular (consisting of a single cell; including bacteria) or multicellular (including plants and animals). While the number of cells in plants and animals varies from species to species, humans contain more than 10 trillion (1013) cells. Most plant and animal cells are visible only under a microscope, with dimensions between 1 and 100 micrometres.
The cell was discovered by Robert Hooke in 1665, who named the biological units for their resemblance to cells inhabited by Christian monks in a monastery. Cell theory, first developed in 1839 by Matthias Jakob Schleiden and Theodor Schwann, states that all organisms are composed of one or more cells, that cells are the fundamental unit of structure and function in all living organisms, that all cells come from preexisting cells, and that all cells contain the hereditary information necessary for regulating cell functions and for transmitting information to the next generation of cells. Cells emerged on Earth at least 3.5 billion years ago.
MOLECULE
A molecule is an electrically neutral group of two or more atoms held together by chemical bonds. Molecules are distinguished from ions by their lack of electrical charge. However, in quantum physics, organic chemistry, and biochemistry, the term molecule is often used less strictly, also being applied to polyatomic ions.
In the kinetic theory of gases, the term molecule is often used for any gaseous particle regardless of its composition. According to this definition, noble gas atoms are considered molecules as they are monatomic molecules.
A molecule may be homonuclear, that is, it consists of atoms of one chemical element, as with oxygen (O2); or it may be heteronuclear, a chemical compound composed of more than one element, as with water (H2O). Atoms and complexes connected by non-covalent interactions, such as hydrogen bonds or ionic bonds, are generally not considered single molecules.
Molecules as components of matter are common in organic substances (and therefore biochemistry). They also make up most of the oceans and atmosphere. However, the majority of familiar solid substances on Earth, including most of the minerals that make up the crust, mantle, and core of the Earth, contain many chemical bonds, but are not made of identifiable molecules. Also, no typical molecule can be defined for ionic crystals (salts) and covalent crystals (network solids), although these are often composed of repeating unit cells that extend either in a plane (such as in graphene) or three-dimensionally (such as in diamond, quartz, or sodium chloride). The theme of repeated unit-cellular-structure also holds for most condensed phases with metallic bonding, which means that solid metals are also not made of molecules. In glasses (solids that exist in a vitreous disordered state), atoms may also be held together by chemical bonds with no presence of any definable molecule, nor any of the regularity of repeating units that characterizes crystals.

The mitochondria is the powerhou... I meant bacteria of the cell
A theory says that mitochondria was a one-cell organism in the past. Bacteria have adopted mitochondria into itself to "eat", but they "agree" to live together :). A win-win situation.
@ Mitochondria was an prokaryotic bacteria, and a proto-eukaryotic cell adoptet it for endosimbiosis.
Yeah, there is a lot of evidence for the event called 'endosymbiosis', both for mitochondria and also chloroplasts in some autotrophs. All Mitochondria actually has its own DNA (known as mitochondrialDNA). Most of there DNA has been transferred to the nucleus but some remains in the mitochondria. Also the fact that the mitochondria has 2 membranes, giving credence to the idea that it was engulfed by the cell, the inner membrane is from the original bacteria and the out membrane from the process of endocytosis that was formed when ingested.
Bacteria can't talk so that already contradicts it.

Umm, why did the hydrogen atoms become progressively larger?
growth hormone.
@@tohopes Eh, good enough for me.
Pp get big
)>.>)
The radius of atoms changes when they're bound in molecules. A hydrogen atom that bonds with oxygen gains a partial positive charge because its electron cloud shifts over towards the oxygen, which results in the hydrogen's electron cloud shrinking in size. A hydrogen atom that bonds with carbon maintains a more neutral charge and therefore its electron cloud remains larger.
4:41 that's a Syrian hamster.

It would be nice to include some of the more unusually sized examples. For example, mimivirus and other giant viruses (some of which can be larger than E. coli), and also acetabularia and other giant single-celled organisms, which can be bigger than a mouse.

0:53 That phospholipid looks kinda hot
It's a head and legs
Should have had the largest single cell, an ostrich egg and one of the smallest multicellular organisms, the water bear.
I'm amazed by the amount of people that believe that ostrich or chicken or any eggs in general are cells. They are not. An egg is an estructure formed by lipids (yolk), proteins (white) and calcium carbonate (shell). The actual cell (the embryo) is inside the egg, laying over the yolk, and it isn't visible to the human eye.
@@opaugneibios You are completely, entirely, totally, certifiably, monumentally, 100 percent wrong.
@@williamjordan5554 You could say that the yolk technically is a cell, given that it shares it's membrane with the germinal disk. But the organelles, nucleus, and everything that makes a cell a cell, is inside the germinal disk. The yolk is just a nutrient reserve.
If you want to talk about the biggest existing cell, I have something for you: Caulerpa taxifolia.

This video has many mistakes in it. Here are some of them:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Units used by you should be written with small letters (not PM, NM, MM etc. but pm, nm, mm etc.). For example P stands for Pascal (unit of pressure, and p stands for pico).
2. these on the left disappear from the screen so it is difficult to really see comparison.
3. singular is bacteria not bacterium (wikipedia is wrong about it). Plural is bacteriae. If you don't believe look up first papers about bacteriae.
4. Baker's yeast doesn't have molecular formula!!!! It is a living organism built of multum of different molecules!!
5. If you want to make informative videos then please try to keep up with highest scientific standards and proper naming of things or don't make any videos.
Heck I didn't even notice he gave a formula for the baker's yeast! That's almost offensive!

How can a carbon atom be bigger than a water molecule? An oxygen atom (part of h2o) has more protons and neutrons than a carbon on its own, let alone the 2 hydrogens that are attached...
Precisely for that reason. Carbon and Oxygen have the same number of electron shells, but Oxygen is more electronegative and pulls its electrons closer, making it the smaller of the two. You see it's not about the size of the nucleolus but about the overall radius of the atom, electrons considered. That's why the two hydrogens don't make a difference being, essentially, only a nucleus (their one electron is hogged by the oxygen).
