I know you're trying to help, but honestly I had to thumb down because I'm more confused after your video than before. I feel like you just rushed through everything.For those of us who are new to this game and to golf itself (but somehow made it through 2k21 because it didn't matter) *can you please make a "for dummies" version* of this video or just split up the topics and go slower? That's what I liked about 2k21. Sure there were fewer options, but I liked that better because it was less confusing and it's not like I know what the heck I'm doing anyway. There are still some things I'm totally confused on: 1. What do the skill point skills actually do? How do they improve my ratings from the archetype and what do I have to do to get that putting from like an 81 to a 90? How do I increase my personal ratings? I assume your archetype gives you base ratings in several categories and then you increase those ratings through the skill matrix and ball sleeve fittings? 2. What is a "fitting" and how is that different from a "sleeve"? You mention fitting for a club but before finishing you zoom over to the ball and then talk about fittings and sleeves and I don't understand the difference. You never really explain that and just rushed through the golf bag part soooo fast. Please slow down! You talk about fit vs. appearance. Is the fitting thing how I improve my player skill level? Do I need the little skill matrix thingie to do that?''' 3. What is the Locker Collection thingie at 15:35? Is that where I change my drivers and stuff? Does that also increase my player's ratings? 4. What is a golf ball "sleeve"? Is that the equivalent of the fitting of a club? Is that different than upgrading the golf ball? 5. When you click on the driver at 15:03, why is the club in 3 pieces? 6. Can you please explain the golf bag screen with the icons at 17:33? Are those related to the 50 skill point matrix thingie? Bottom line: I'm brand new to the game of golf. I wouldn't know a wood from an iron, a fade from a draw or a hook from a slice. And I don't care. All that wardrobe and club appearance thing is super terrific but I just want to know what I have to do to get higher skill ratings as quickly as possible.

I don't mean this in a snarky way; but as an avid Destiny 2 and WoW player, I never thought in my life I'd watch a full video guide on a PGA 2K game. But I'm glad I did. This video was great my dude. Dude me too lol I've never played golf, or a golf video game, never watched golf, never had any interest in it or know anything about the rules etc. But it's free on PSN so me and some buddies downloaded it. We've been playing it for hours, I think I've watched like 10 tutorial videos so I'm gonna go demolish him in a game tonight and confuse the shit out of him. Stopped playing so many other games for this, it's so random but awesome 😂
I played so terrible in a round +10 or something, they all dropped me. I never had a round that bad at once. They said my play doesn't represent their brand, hahaha. I hope they come back if my play gets back on track. Great stuff Ryan. You are the man.
Gamer, you helped me out sooooi much when I purchased last year’s golf (2k21). I brought it 8-9 months late and your vids helped me play catch-up big time.thx. On this one, I HATE the semi circle power tempo bar. It throws my swing way off. I can get rid of it on career and practice but not online gameplay for some reason. Am I missing something or is it just not possible?
Glad the tutorial videos were helpful to you ej! Yeah the new power meter has thrown off a lot of players. So unfortunately it does not seem that you can turn it off during online play. I know you could turn it off for online in matchmaking in 2k21, but not sure why you cannot here in 2k23. Hopefully it is added soon
Ok, back review the tutorial and thanks for it! **Before starting to level up can you offer up a suggestion to find: A practice range with no wind to map club distances. Plus, approach shots and Punch. Flop. Pitch. Bunker. Where to actually start MyCareer. ~ Thanks ~
1) This would only be possible by creating a course and then practicing on the course. But this is pretty complex. zcolbster has a great video on how to do this here: ruclips.net/video/RnRymCRnc7o/видео.html Also you can find all things about approach shots, flop, bunkers in my full tutorial series here. This tutorial series covers my full approach to the game and covers all the key areas for beginners: ruclips.net/p/PL2ypHzc7pV81pV8ypNZqzzBM0y9D1NkPz As for punch shots, they are rarely needed. In my over 300 hours in the game so far, I may have had to hit a punch only 3 times. 2) For career you can start where ever it is fun for you, Q school is a really fun way to start. Also probably easy AI difficulty at first. Keep in mind that you will learn so much by playing the game through trial and error. Learn from each bad shot and correct for future ones. It takes thousands of repetitions to master the swing. If tempo is too challenging for you and is too frustrating, just turn tempo off and have fun. This game takes a lot of practice to master, just like real golf. Keep working at it and learning each round. The main thing is to have fun!
@@GamerAbilityThis is great and thanks! What I stumbled across would be an good addition to a beginners tutorial. Go into “Casual” > choose local and perform a search where you can apply filters. Once a course is found you have complete control over all conditions. This is ideal for mapping clubs, a feel for varying green speeds, rough & bunker shots. Then, add in whatever conditions after gain a baseline for distances. ~ Cheers ~

Yes this version ruined the franchise for me. I wish they would have just upgraded 2k21. I'm so confused about all the new features and after watching this video... I'm even more confused.
I can't get past Q School hahahaha. I keep choking on the last 3 holes. I'm not even trying to be 1st, just trying to get 50th or better. 8 tries so far and best I've done is 91st. Using Rhythm. I'm getting decent currency and drops, but I don't want to start spec-ing out until I have at least 2k currency. Awesome vids Ryan. Back to the "carrier" you go.
Question: When using Skills especially (but could also apply to some fittings I suppose), does it change the Displayed Distance? For example, if my Driver's distance is 274, but then a skill gets activated (because I've sucked lol) which increases power or whatever, would the displayed distance change to reflect that new power? In the case of fittings - if it increases power, would my Driver now say, 280 for example? I'm not sure I'm asking clearly. My point is that I've been loathe to use some skills/fittings because I am afraid that what I expect for some attribute (ie, 'displayed') would be different than what actually occurs. Semi-related, personally I will not be using any golf balls but the default. I want to learn and play the game one way, not change my style depending on what ball I am using. Not to mention the cost. That said, while I won't pay for golf balls, my girl would KILL for a black skirt :D
Great question Rick! So yeah, when you change your stats via the club fittings or archetypes and so forth, the distance showed on the hud during a round will be updated. It will also be updated in the golf bag as well. And yeah I feel the same way about the golf balls, and want to learn the way the default golf balls play because I will be using those ones the most.
I have been grinding out for a while and I am on lvl 50 and ALL….. my club fittings are legendary but what’s the best thing to invest into such as the swing path or transition? Would it be prudent to put power into head, shaft and grip? And Ryan what’s the best area to put my skill points into? Here’s to beating that Central Park AG on Friday 👍😀
Once you get a sponsor tier to 9 would it be beneficial to sign another just to get more stuff? Or do you lose something if you do that other than your standing with them
So once you get one sponsor to tier nine and unlock all the rewards there is no need to stay with that sponsor. So drop it and progress through another one.
So the clubs you buy in the in game store or unlock in the career mode are only cosmetic changes. But you will earn club fittings just by playing rounds and completing sponsor tiers and rivals in the career mode, and applying those club fittings to your clubs is how you improve their stats.
hi I was doing great but i don’t know what happen but im now missing tee shot and fairway shot never happened before also the wind direction and speed is missing don’t know how to get it back ive probably hit the wrong mode can you give any info on the problem .
Is there any benefit to playing on the Pro difficulty in the game in regards to career mode? Haven't played a PGA game in a very long time and, while I know it's a grind to master tempo, I feel like I'm beating my head against a wall just trying to beat Q School on Pro. Am I going to miss out on any items/sacrifice anything by maybe lowering the difficulty of game play? I'm not referring to the difficulty of the others golfers, but rather to the gameplay difficulty. Great videos btw, just subscribed, will recommend to my other buddies currently playing.
Hey Triston! So the only benefit of playing on a higher difficulty is the experience multiplier at the end of the round. But it does not make a huge difference overall. The main thing is to have fun, so I would lower the difficulty to one that makes the game fun for you! You will not miss out on any items or anything like that.
New player. Does the created character bring all the fittings applied to the clubs in online casual ?? Does your fittings stay on your clubs when you move from.amerture to pro online Thank you

What does "poor swing timing" and "good swing timing" exactly mean? Does "good" mean, that it must be "perfect"? Or only in the "grey" area? and poor means out of the "grey" area? Or out of the perfect area?
Hey Pod! Thank you! Glad you are enjoying the content! So poor swing time means completely out of the light grey tempo region on the shot feedback to the bottom right of the screen. Good timing means anything in the light grey or perfect white region on the shot feedback tempo meter. Hope this helps!

No sir . Tempo is backswing and forward swing . If u doubt me ... Mess around with back swing and do best forward swing In pro swing with tempo on It will mess up
So the developers have actually confirmed the downswing is the only thing that determines your swing tempo. However, your backswing tempo and rhythm definitely changes your downswing motion. For example if I move my stick backwards slow I tend to slow my downswing. Or if I go to fast on backswing I tend to fast downswing, it is all in finding the right rhythm. That first initial motion from backswing to downswing is also very important for tempo.
I am curious as to what stats are most important for actually just being able to hit the ball straighter. I have my timing and swing path both high 80's to 90's but then transition in the 70's. Should I maybe lower timing and swing path to get the transition higher.
So the ones you have high, tempo and swing path are the most important to help hit the ball straighter. The transition stat refers to distance control, which will help make that perfect power region bigger and this makes it easier to hit the right distance. But the transition stat does not help you hit it straighter. Swing path is very sensitive this year, even with slight misses. Another one that might help you is to spec into shot shaping, because if you add any loft or spin it really decreases the tempo region and swing path region and makes it much harder to hit it straight. But you are focusing on the right ones to help you hit it straighter. Hope this helps!
@@GamerAbility I see, thank you mate. Regarding the power bar on the left hand side, I normally try to get it in the small white area before I swing forwards. Regarding hitting the ball straight does that really matter? So if you go in the red does that mean your swing will then be faster losing accuracy?
@@Butters__Stotch So yeah as you go into the red area on the power meter it increases the penalty of a missed tempo or swing plane. So it is actually best to try to hit right at the perfect region or even slightly before. Once you get more consistent with the swing plane and tempo you can start hitting some more overpowers. Overpowers are great but only as long as you can hit the ball dead straight on swing plane and perfect tempo.
PLEASE make a video about splash shots because maybe it's me or if you don't get good timing, splash shots feel broken. Please be the first to master this once great and now half broken splash shot
So yeah the splash shots are way too punishing and just are not very accurate to real life splash shots. I can hit splash shots from the sand way better in real life than this game and I am not even a high level golfer LOL! It is my least favorite shot in the game. So I will be doing a short game tutorial and focus on bunkers. What I recommend is to actually hit a chip shot from the sand instead of a splash. Add some back spin and some loft to get it over the lip of the bunker. I hope they end up changing the splash shot with an update sometime.
Great video man thank you. My question is if I have the game on Xbox and I buy it on Pc will my account carry over. I know it’s not cross platform by I have friends on both platforms and just wonder if I have to make two separate accounts for each platform
So this game does not have cross saves or cross progression, but it does have cross play with other players. So your Xbox save has to be a completely different save than your PC save.
In this video you say you can change your apparel for each round of a tournament By hitting LB and RB. I realized this a long time ago but the only problem is it tells me I can't because it's not activated. Is there a reason why this is not activated? Can somebody help me with figuring out why I can't set my apparel for each round? I would very much appreciate it because I can't find anything on the Internet that explains that to me.
Someone else actually posted this same issue awhile back, and it was because they were not connected to the internet. And another person had the same problem and it was because they were not a subscriber to Xbox Live. If you are connected online to Xbox live, the search feature should definitely be there. Not sure why it is not showing up for you.
Putt path is basically swing plane on putts. The higher the stat the more forgiveness when moving off the perfect swing path line when putting. In general though, putt path is so much more forgiving in this game versus the last game. So if you are pushing and pulling putts a lot, would be good to spec into this with your putter club fits
I'm not too thrilled with the temporary golf ball types. It looks to me that everyone in society play will have to constantly refill the most powerful ball types, like high spin for firm-fast greens, in order to keep up with the rest of the field. I just played a career mode round using a high spin ball, and it made a huge difference!
Yeah I am not either, I feel like they really need to be balanced. The high spin and low bounce balls are game changers, and especially give a big advantage in online play. I like them for career mode to add an extra layer, but not really for online play.
@@GamerAbility The simple solution, at least for Society play, would be to add an administers restriction to default ball only. Just like there is now a new restriction as to analog or 3-click swings. (I don't know if this can be done for matchmaking, I haven't tried it yet.)
So you select change player above your current my player when in a local match, private match, matchmaking match, and top golf. You cannot play as the pros in career mode or in online societies.
Too complicated. Make an actual skill build with a fun spending experience points system. All pros end up with same stats but then add bonus points on items

Yes you can! Go to My Player > Golfer > Info and you can change the name here. You can also move through these menus with right trigger and left trigger and apply skills, change your archetype, and change you appearance.

And after my first two games of just getting the feel for the sticks and how the clubs feel . I finished like top 20 . Then on the 3rd game I won . Lol 😆 I got 2 eagles and 11 birdies and no boggies . Then I won again and played one more time , had a shot at the win on the last two holes and fell apart lol 3rd . I like the way this game plays . I used to play a lot of tiger woods back in the day . But had to use a hori controller to be able to keep it on the fairways. My kids and grandkids got me this ps5 for Christmas because I stopped playing my ps3 about 5 years ago . I was very surprised. The controller feels great . I click on the picture of GOLFER that shows a man and woman amd it takes me to MyPLAYER >SKILLS ... and at the bottom of the screen SKILLS , ARCHETYPE , INFO , APPEARANCE . OH Wait a minute lol I just found it under INFO ... LOL 😆 OK it's official you sir are my new best friend. 👌
So do you mean like head to head versus the AI and see their shots in real time? This is not a feature in the game unfortunately. You can only play against their scores in the career mode

I do not think you can since all the MyPlayer data is saved server side. But you can change your archetype and fully redesign your character and change name and such in the MyPlayer menus.

How do you play a game by yourself? Very confusing
Here's a grind tip...play a solo local match and search for the "Grind XP" course. You can grind XP, VC, etc. fast.

Once you get a sponsor tier to 9 would it be beneficial to sign another just to get more stuff? Or do you lose something if you do that other than your standing with them
So once you get one sponsor to tier nine and unlock all the rewards there is no need to stay with that sponsor. So drop it and progress through another one.

Is there any point in buying new clubs? I did and they all have the same stats.
So the clubs you buy in the in game store or unlock in the career mode are only cosmetic changes. But you will earn club fittings just by playing rounds and completing sponsor tiers and rivals in the career mode, and applying those club fittings to your clubs is how you improve their stats.

Is there any benefit to playing on the Pro difficulty in the game in regards to career mode? Haven't played a PGA game in a very long time and, while I know it's a grind to master tempo, I feel like I'm beating my head against a wall just trying to beat Q School on Pro. Am I going to miss out on any items/sacrifice anything by maybe lowering the difficulty of game play? I'm not referring to the difficulty of the others golfers, but rather to the gameplay difficulty.

Hey Triston! So the only benefit of playing on a higher difficulty is the experience multiplier at the end of the round. But it does not make a huge difference overall. The main thing is to have fun, so I would lower the difficulty to one that makes the game fun for you! You will not miss out on any items or anything like that.

So you would want to focus on timing and swing path, and the some on putt weight and also transition.

Good timing means anything in the light grey or perfect white region on the shot feedback tempo meter. Hope this helps!

They are automatically transferred, unless you experience a glitch to where they disappear. Which hopefully you do not have that glitch.

I think the Rhythm is one of the best places to start. It is a very forgiving loadout with regards to missing your tempo and swing plane on shots.

So the developers have actually confirmed the downswing is the only thing that determines your swing tempo. However, your backswing tempo and rhythm definitely changes your downswing motion. For example if I move my stick backwards slow I tend to slow my downswing. Or if I go to fast on backswing I tend to fast downswing, it is all in finding the right rhythm. That first initial motion from backswing to downswing is also very important for tempo.

I am curious as to what stats are most important for actually just being able to hit the ball straighter. I have my timing and swing path both high 80's to 90's but then transition in the 70's. Should I maybe lower timing and swing path to get the transition higher.
So the ones you have high, tempo and swing path are the most important to help hit the ball straighter. The transition stat refers to distance control, which will help make that perfect power region bigger and this makes it easier to hit the right distance. But the transition stat does not help you hit it straighter. Swing path is very sensitive this year, even with slight misses. Another one that might help you is to spec into shot shaping, because if you add any loft or spin it really decreases the tempo region and swing path region and makes it much harder to hit it straight. But you are focusing on the right ones to help you hit it straighter. Hope this helps!
@@GamerAbility I see, thank you mate. Regarding the power bar on the left hand side, I normally try to get it in the small white area before I swing forwards. Regarding hitting the ball straight does that really matter? So if you go in the red does that mean your swing will then be faster losing accuracy?
@@Butters__Stotch So yeah as you go into the red area on the power meter it increases the penalty of a missed tempo or swing plane. So it is actually best to try to hit right at the perfect region or even slightly before. Once you get more consistent with the swing plane and tempo you can start hitting some more overpowers. Overpowers are great but only as long as you can hit the ball dead straight on swing plane and perfect tempo.
PLEASE make a video about splash shots because maybe it's me or if you don't get good timing, splash shots feel broken. Please be the first to master this once great and now half broken splash shot
So yeah the splash shots are way too punishing and just are not very accurate to real life splash shots. I can hit splash shots from the sand way better in real life than this game and I am not even a high level golfer LOL! It is my least favorite shot in the game. So I will be doing a short game tutorial and focus on bunkers. What I recommend is to actually hit a chip shot from the sand instead of a splash. Add some back spin and some loft to get it over the lip of the bunker. I hope they end up changing the splash shot with an update sometime.

So this game does not have cross saves or cross progression, but it does have cross play with other players. So your Xbox save has to be a completely different save than your PC save.
In this video you say you can change your apparel for each round of a tournament By hitting LB and RB. I realized this a long time ago but the only problem is it tells me I can't because it's not activated. Is there a reason why this is not activated? Can somebody help me with figuring out why I can't set my apparel for each round?

Someone else actually posted this same issue awhile back, and it was because they were not connected to the internet. And another person had the same problem and it was because they were not a subscriber to Xbox Live. If you are connected online to Xbox live, the search feature should definitely be there. So what's putt path ...
Putt path is basically swing plane on putts. The higher the stat the more forgiveness when moving off the perfect swing path line when putting. In general though, putt path is so much more forgiving in this game versus the last game. So if you are pushing and pulling putts a lot, would be good to spec into this with your putter club fits
So I'm play online on PC. And 2 hols in a row it gave me the wrong score . Has this happened to anyone else?

I think its something to do with the settings the society i was playing in.
I'm not too thrilled with the temporary golf ball types. It looks to me that everyone in society play will have to constantly refill the most powerful ball types, like high spin for firm-fast greens, in order to keep up with the rest of the field. I just played a career mode round using a high spin ball, and it made a huge difference!
Yeah I am not either, I feel like they really need to be balanced. The high spin and low bounce balls are game changers, and especially give a big advantage in online play. I like them for career mode to add an extra layer, but not really for online play.
@@GamerAbility The simple solution, at least for Society play, would be to add an administers restriction to default ball only. Just like there is now a new restriction as to analog or 3-click swings. (I don't know if this can be done for matchmaking, I haven't tried it yet.)
How do I play as a PGA player?
So you select change player above your current my player when in a local match, private match, matchmaking match, and top golf. You cannot play as the pros in career mode or in online societies.

Yes you can! Go to My Player > Golfer > Info and you can change the name here. You can also move through these menus with right trigger and left trigger and apply skills, change your archetype, and change you appearance.

How you delete a golfer
I do not think you can since all the MyPlayer data is saved server side. But you can change your archetype and fully redesign your character and change name and such in the MyPlayer menus.
