Dear Hazel,I wish more men were like your father. You were blessed by God to have him, and all those who were influenced by him were blessed as well. In life, it does not matter how many material possessions or money you have. All that ends when you die. What does matter is if you were significant, and being significant is when you help other people be successful, and that will last many a lifetime. Your dad was significant.

As a graduate of Eastside HS, class of '86 Joe Clark is absolutely RIGHT!!!He provided Leadership, and a Positive role model for most of the students at Eastside. What I learned from that experienced provided me a with strong foundation of hope, strength & empowerment that would later be use to help me overcome any obstacle in life.Currently I have a Masters degree in Social Work...Had it not been for Joe Clark, I would not have known the importance and seriousness of education.Thank you JC..

Your positive attitude towards his vocabulary is highly admirable. Many people would be insulted and accuse him of being arrogant. But people who speak well, like Joe Clark, are lifting people up, not dragging them down. They educate even outside the classroom. Good on you for recognizing an opportunity to learn and be better.

I am a graduate of Eastside High School...class of 1970 we are celebrating our 50th Reunion. In my senior year it was the first year at Eastside High School there had to be security guards because drugs started to trinkle in. But also, anti-war demonstrations and civil right demonstrations were prevalent. When I saw the movie and looked upon my beloved alma mater, I couldn't believe it. Thank you to Principal Joe Clark for his vision to make EHS a school where learning could prevail.

I loved his ability to fight the injustices of a failing systemic institutions who's mission is to fail black and brown urban children he said what he meant by serving them a dose of realness it's refreshing to view his life's work because it proves they're still strong black men who are committed to black excellence. He was very selective on choosing students he treated well. The other students were treated like they didn't exist. He didn't connect with the students that truly needed guidance. It was as if we were unimportant.

I’d love to know if that school remained as it was when Joe Clark left.

    12/4/2019....................
Want to have a vocabulary anywhere near as expansive as Joe Clark.........???
Purchase yourself a "thesaurus" that has AT LEAST 300 pages (or "at least 100,000 words" listed on the cover) and learn to use it frequently.
Why do I say "purchase" a thesaurus...??? Because a paper copy of a book will always be more handy AT HOME 24/7/365 than using a computer program anywhere (especially if you don't own a computer at home {like I don't}), and it's easier to see 25 synonyms all at one time on a piece of paper rather than scrolling through a cell phone screen.
And as much as a screen program on a cell phone might be handy, once "the ink has dried to the paper" the "tome" will last for the rest of your life. Look up "tome" while you're at it
