Why would it make you wanna quit? Losers quit. If anything, it should inspire you to do your homework and to practice that shit so you can do the same. It takes 4hrs a day with 7yrs to become a Master at drums and all rudiments. Goes with anything out there you wanna learn. Practice, practice, practice with dedication and motivation.
Woaww I didn't now know my comment was gonna get any attention. I just did it to see if it would get likes xD I watch tons of RUclips drummers. I'm not gonna quit cause of that lol! Either way you guys make some interesting points :)
Lol cause that's negative thoughts bro. I'm sure you will pick up a lot of rudiments to throw around the kit if you do what I said :) a lot of time on the kit with practice = one badass drummer behind it. And that's a FACT!
***** Dude loving how consistent every hit is! Even when you slow down your lick the hits are still exact and on time, loving it! Your awesome as always man and I hope you foot heals heaps quick so you can get back out there and slay some concerts! Love from Australia man!! ps. Bring TWA to Australia!? would be so good to meet you!
Amazing. Because of you I have this urge to play the drums, but I can't get my hands on a kit. You're crazy good at the drums. Keeping doing what you're doing.
Here are the rudiments so you can take this to your kit and practice rC l r r l l k k rC *L* l r r *L* rC l l k k rC *L* r r *L* rC l l k k rC *L* r r L rC l l k k lC rC rC = right-hand Crash lC = left-hand Crash l= left hand hit L = Accented left hit and same with right hand ofc but with r/R k = kick
Hey dude, blown away by your drumming like every other freaken video you've done...but as a suggestion, it'd be really cool to see you do some fills/techniques that range from beginner to advanced so that more drummers can attempt to learn them! All the best buddy!
Ok, favourite video so far. :D It's not that difficult, but sooo nice to play and it sounds so cool. You know, my playstyle is very similar to Luke's. So I had an idea what the notes are and I tried on my own. It was only one tiny thing wrong so I decided to create an own lick - similar to this one - so it's style is completely mine.
For the people who were as confused as I was, I found a way to make sense of this (through math). Let's say you are operating in a simple 4/4 bar. This bar can fit 16 "16th notes" inside it, or 32 "32nd notes". To make these fills work, the number of notes must have a sum of 16 or 32 to fit in one measure. Here are some combos that I put together while watching the video. C=crash, r=right, l=left, L=accented left, k=kick 1.) C l r r = 4 2.) l C l l = 4 3.) C l r r l l = 6 4.) C l r r l l k k = 8 5.) C L r r L C l l k k = 10 6.) C l l k k C L l r r L C l l k k = 16 This is how he presenteyd his fill at 1:06 "... paradiddlediddle, two kicks, para diddle, paradiddle, two kicks, paradiddle, paradiddle, two kicks kind of thing" This looks like this: 7.) C l r r l l k k C l r r l C l l k k C l r r l C l l k k = 28 Since all but #5 failed to reach the quantity of 16, this is where the fun part begins. We must now mix, match, or create new combinations so that we get a sum of either 16 or 32 (unless you want to deal with "16th quintuplets" and "32nd quintuplets" then it would be either 20 or 40) AND THEN we can add accents. Have fun :) OR they could just be quintuplets with the crash every eighth note starting on 2.
I'm no drummer but I thoroughly enjoy your videos! Quick question: why do you not do dubstep covers anymore? I've been hoping you'd do a drum cover/remix of a Zomboy song. He is my absolute favorite dubstep/trap artist.
After getting tired of my triple kicks at the ends of fills sounding sloppy (the triple kick is more common than you might think) I just got used to doing "kick-f Tom-kick" instead...if that makes any sense
+Jonathan Ziegler It makes a lot of sense, and it sounds even more musical! Bass drum triplets are to be used very rarely, and definitely not recommended at fast tempos.
ACD Drums Are you sure?... the notes sound like they all have equal value to me... this is seriously tripping me out... i don't know if its because i haven't slept or w/e, but for some reason i can't grasp this.
Periph1989 it's straight 16th notes. It just starts at an odd placement. But if you play it in 8th note triplets and lengthen it by one "paradiddle paradiddle kick kick" it'll be three bars long. Like so: RLrrllKK RLrrLRllKK RLrrLRllKK RLrrLRllKK RLrrLRllKK Don't mind the spaces in the sticking. I put them there just for clarity and they don't mean rests.
EetuMellin Drums @3:28 Luke plays the fill for one measure, then plays a beat for one measure (eighth-note pulse on the hi-hat), then plays the fill again for one measure, then plays the beat again. I can feel the eighth-note pulse, and I know that the fill is one whole measure, but it doesn't seem to fit... I know the sticking (luke explained it very well), but as you can see, if you divide by 4 notes (each group of 4 has a value of an eighth note), the fill would last (1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 1 and 2 and) a measure AND A HALF... maybe the fill doesn't just use one sub division of notes?
I tried to listen at 0.5 speed, but it really doesn't seem to fit!! Can somebody explain how this works? Is the cymbal on the beat? Are those sextuplets or 16ths? Is there a hemiola or not??
The paradiddle-diddle phrase on beat one is played as 32nd notes. The Paradiddle phrase on beats 2,3,4 and four are played as 8th note quintuplets . (or ten notes per quarter note).
+EYankeeMusic only the paradiddle-diddle at beat one is played as 32nd notes. The paradiddle phrase with the two kicks is played as eighth-not quintuplets (ten notes per quarter note) starting on beat 2 :P
It's videos like these that further prove the study that drummers are extremely intelligent
I love that Luke is cavalier and just chill. Great breakdown.
The beginning gave me the chills, nice job Luke
if i got a dollar for every time he said "thats killer man" on this entire channel.
Thumbs up if you are a drummer who watches Luks's videos and he just makes you want to quit :/
***** I prefer to see it the other way, get motivated instead. Try it out, just by wanting to become as skilled as he is.
***** That's what a total bitch would say.

I really enjoyed learning this, guys - many thanks for the excellent video!
Amazing. Because of you I have this urge to play the drums, but I can't get my hands on a kit. You're crazy good at the drums. Keeping doing what you're doing.
Sick as always! You're a great teacher!
Very nice! I'll be working on this later!
Totally stealing this live. Thanks Luke the Duke!
Finally! Been meaning to transcribe this fill forever but I'm too lazy
You should do more lessons. Im sure people would love to learn more from you. Im sure i would! :)
Not even two full moongels could stop that snare from ringing lol good shit
Here are the rudiments so you can take this to your kit and practice
rC l r r l l k k
rC *L* l r r *L* rC l l k k rC *L* r r *L*
rC l l k k rC *L* r r L rC l l k k lC rC

Chronic Cobalt yeah, i was like, didnt he break is foot or something.. haha xD
Chronic Cobalt and his foot isn't broken yet... :) :)
+Chronic Cobalt glad you noticed the drumming.
Do more videos like this!
Holaaa Argentina!
Almost the free breadstick lick without the rack tom, right? Sounds fresh applying same licks around the kit differently
So awesome
Notice how Luke is totally using a Zildjian efx crash in that stack
I'm no drummer but I thoroughly enjoy your videos! Quick question: why do you not do dubstep covers anymore? I've been hoping you'd do a drum cover/remix of a Zomboy song. He is my absolute favorite dubstep/trap artist.
***** Oh I've seen them! I've watched every one of your videos :)
I'm no fan of Drake and Skrillex is too... "mainstream"
Awesome
Wow cute and talented !
talented guy
great drumming! never would've figure you a Charger fan though! you from San Diego?
hey Luke, you know i love you in the most heterosexual way possible right?
what is doing the host with the pedal? changes camera viwes? or what
interesting
caparzzo Changes microphone volume/setup. I don't know how they set it up but I'm guessing they have different sound levels for speech and the drums.
Anwar Ariffin Nailed it!
+180 DRUMS Changing between the vocal mics and the kit mics on a Boolean.
Did anyone else notice that he’s not playing the same fill when he slowed it down?
Is he not?
Hi, my adorable, Luke. If you read this, please smile and post another video bcs i love you ok!!!!!! Hahaha
Someone want to clean my brain off the wall?
very good
Can't believe this guy is like 21...
1:14 , When did Duct Tape start making drums ? Was sitting in my movie trailer filming Tremors 16 and came across this video.
reppin' the san diego chargers
You should play deaths hands but also add you flavor to it
Now hurry up and heal up that broken foot of yours so we see more of this! Can't wait to see what your mind is working up
I love the tattoo sleeve! That's exactly what I want when I'm old enough. What kind of DW set do you play? platinum's?
Collector's Series
thanks Jayben Martinez
Can you pleaseeeeee do a cover for Can't Feel My Face bij The Weeknd? That would be awesome man.
Hey, now that i think about it, didnt you use this a few times in that cover "fine china" with tyler carter.

Luke, makes cover of this song: Ain't no rest for the wicked - Cage the elephant.
***** What Meinl cymbals are you using? Could you break it down for us please? Thanks
im new to drumming and im planning to buy my first drum set this december, i just wanna ask is fill important to learn on drumming???
luke you should remix hills
Free Breadstick lick!!!
please cover "Crown the Empire - Voices"
Hey luke, could you by any chance do a drum cover of connector by a lot like birds?
Why is the bottom cymbal from luke's signature stack a Zildjian k EFX 😂😂
Same pattern as the free breadstick lick
I bought your stack, does it brake by using it like that (upside/down) ? How long does it last?
you should do a remix cover of lucky man by the verve i think you could bring something unique to it
That looks like a zildjian efx crash under the classics custom splash, am I correct?
Correction deaths hand. Not hands
Hey, Luke. Is this the fill that you used in your Fine China remix? Please let me know!
Yes, this fill is in there twice. Peace.
I wish you could give me drum lessons.

CHARGERS
can you play whiplash and caravan?
how long did it take for you to learn how to break down fills like that?
the herb was good wasn't it? :-)
They are so high..
Hey Luke! What's the note value for this lick? 16th notes? 32nds? Triplets?
Eetu Mellin 16th notes and 8th note quintuplets, I broke it down in my comment above.
ACD Drums cheers

When did you start playing drums?
which are those shoes?
What snare head
I want see your slide kick luke⚡⚡❤
What kind of shoes are those?
Can someone type out the sticking for this for me??
***** chill. I know what a paradiddle is, and a paradiddle-diddle. I was just confused if they're all 16th notes or not
+EYankeeMusic only the paradiddle-diddle at beat one is played as 32nd notes. The paradiddle phrase with the two kicks is played as eighth-not quintuplets (ten notes per quarter note) starting on beat 2 :P
have you played in a drum core before ?
Luke, where are you from?
