The divide between the rich and poor in the Philippines is pretty sad to think about. You have fancy urban places like this in one area, and then the slums almost right next to it.
Actually the slums were there first. They were created after the devastation of the 2nd World war and left neglected for years until in 1978 the government started to address them although that government was ousted in 1986. So if one goes to modern cties like this one, they did not come along with the slums rather it is the hope for these cities to eventually replace the slums.
The first urban plan for Manila was conceptialized in 1901 by Daniel Burnham when the Philippines was under the US. Because of that Manila was called the "Paris of Asia". All that was destroyed by the 2nd World War. Manila was neglected after the Philippines was granted independence by the US in 1946 and no urban plan was created to restore it back instead it became a free for all, do what you want. The $560 M war rehabilitation fund granted by the US congress went to the restoration of Avenida area. It was not until 1978 when Marcos Sr. with the help of the world bank conceptualized the 2nd urban plan for Manila called the "City of Man" aka "City of Manila" along with it, the creation of the Ministry of Human Settlements, and the National Housing Authority. It implemented a socialized Mass Housing program called the BLISS. Today, Manila is on a 3rd urban plan called "MetroManila Dream plan" through the initiative of Japan or JICA in 2014. It was the source of Dutertes Build, Build, Build started in 2016. This is what Marcos Jr. wants now to continue through his Build, Better, More program and this is not opinion nor impression. Its the urban plan.
At least. There's no such divide in some continents or countries because most citizens there are averagely poor and middle-income only.
I think the situation of poor people is better than those homeless people in Kensington Philadelphia. Some people looks like zoombies.
Not much different from Jakarta, however there's not much homeless with drugs running around like in the American news

First, Ortigas, then Makati, and now introducing Bonifacio Global City AKA Taguig! This very modern city is comparable to the city state Singapore and UAE's Dubai. The three are the holy trinity of Extraordinary Cities in the world. I was impressed big time!
BGC is not a city even if it is named as such. It is only a small 2.5km2 district, one of 28 barangays in the City of Taguig. And Taguig is full of slum and squalor. It is not comparable to real cities in the world

Beautiful walking blog in the different streets and in cities in Manila other than Manila It would also be interesting to show different cities in the provinces Manila is is kinda the same their traffic buildings billboards malls side streets etc. how about featuring walking thru the natural veiws it’s people, the ways of living in provinces.

The Original Randy's Donuts is in Los Angeles California . I was raised there and saw the giant donut all the time. Seeing it here brings back a lot of memories ,and a smile. Thank you Larry, and I love walking with you. I do it for hours at a time !

I love the Philippines (30 odd trips there and counting) but to me this just looks like any other city around the world I could just go down the road and see the same thing so not for me but it is nice to see Philippines progressing for the locals
