Elmo in Grouchland is the 219th game the Grumps have beaten. They should be very proud for beating it on Hard Mode.
Thank you Ian, you beautiful man 🧡🩵
Love that you even count the 10 min breeze throughs.
Thank you, InsaneIan. You're out here doing the lord's work.
That's two more in the books!
You know, it'd be pretty cool of them to have you on for Guest Grumps.
@@Arkainjel That's the dream! I doubt I'll ever be asked, but I'd certainly jump at the chance!
Elmo chasing his blanket has inspired me to chase my own blanket
chase a blanket, never chase a bitch
never stop chasing your blanket
Or your dragons.
Is that a euphemism?
Sounds like last night with those strange mushrooms I ate that a friend said were good for me. 😂😂😂😂😂
I don't know what's more startling, when Arin busts out a perfect Elmo impression or when Dan talks about his wife. Like, oh right these are adult men and one of them is a voice actor. I forget sometimes.
and the other is a musician. it's crazy when u look past the dad kissing and butt jokes you remember these are talented and successful men
WAIT ONES A VOICE ACTOR??? I didn’t know this??
@@brani.the.ortist Yes, Arin is a voice actor. He's had small roles in various things here and there, and he even had a cameo in Rick & Morty way back when. I think it was the end of the first season, he voiced a robotic butler that took pictures at a wedding.
@@JaySay that’s so cool! Thanks for telling me
@@brani.the.ortistArin has had roles in Rick and Morty, Cyanide and Happiness, The Owl House, The Mighty Magiswords, Bee and Puppycat, Borderlands 3 and then some Indie games.
For the first time my 2 year old got to watch an episode of GameGrumps with daddy. She was quite proud to call out Elmo's letters when they raised into the sky with telekinetic force...
And then Dan made a comment about Elmo's balls.
Arins Elmo voice is pretty damn good, actually.
It's actually really easy to do
@@MCDexpo It's actually not that easy to do it... Especially as good as Arin, a trained voice actor, does it.
@@MCDexpomake a video and show us how its done
@@JaySay didn’t you know that if someone does something and another person feels they can as well that it’s easy? 😂
It actually is easy
First, try to do a Stitch impression, and then slowly raise your pitch until it sounds like Elmo
The Grumps beating children’s games in 14 minutes and complaining they’re too easy is prime Grumps
Some children's games are surprisingly hard to be fair, especially on hard difficulty when it seems it's not tested haha
I was expecting it to be longer ebcause usually these older games are a lot harder. Even "kid's" games were surpisingly hard haha
@@fuzzyotterpaws4395 I wasn't expecting it to work
Too short, not too easy. Isn’t exactly the same, even in this case.
I mean, I'd probably be annoyed if I was a kid and I beat a game that fast.
I have a sneaking suspicion these two grown men have never watched the masterpiece that is Elmo in Grouchland.
Bro, that and Follow That Bird were my childhood favorites.
yeah they laugh but that movie RULED
It was always my go-to at the local West Coast Video 😂
I just watched the movie this game is based on with my son a few months ago so when they joked about Huxley's chopper all I was thinking was: "You got to be kidding me that you dont know who HUXLEY is! He is the terror of Grouchland!" Then I remembered I was a grown man and had to reconsider my priorities.
The best Elmo arc is his absolute hatred of Rocko
BECAUSE HE'S A ROCK
ROCKO DOESN'T NEED COOKIES. HE'S A ROCK
Hello.....Rocko.
I like how Dan says Love Actually "only came out in 2003" as if that isn't two decades ago.
Lol listen, at our age, that was yesterday
@@speedracer2please scary how that feels sometimes
For a show that's from like, the 1960s, it's relatively recent considering the possible range 🤓
How dare you.
I used to work in a video store. I was walking past the kids section and saw Hook and thought, "Man. I really liked that as a kid." I picked up the box, looked at the date, and desiccated a little because that date felt like it was a thousand years before.
I remember this movie traumatized me as a kid. Good to see the video game is equally unsettling and psychedelic
Really? I remember loving it
@shockhedgehog4771 It definitely has some dumbo-esque trippy moments that could be scary. But it's the type of scary that's fun for some kids (I certainly loved it)
the movie was one of my absolute favorites, i had such a crush on the trash queen
Oh this was a movie first! Interesting
@@mermaidpillI was expecting this "Trash Queen" to be a puppet lol. I'm glad she's a human person. She's not bad lol
Denny’s and Arnold’s test to be a certified Elmo inspector for their future kids. Brings a tear to my eye how far they’ve come.
Thanks Obama

If you ever do more Sesame Street games or want to drop a nostalgia bomb on us, there are some point-and-click corny PC games from the mid/late 90s similar to Freddi Fish you could maybe take a look at.
Let’s Make A Word and Elmo’s Deep Sea Adventure were staples in our house.
ELMO IN GROUCHLAND ELMO IN GROUCHLAND!!!! 😭😭🙏🙏🙏
I LOVED the movie this was based on as a kid! Elmo loses his blanket in Grouch Land, he tries to find it, random music video montage, and getting it back from the only human living in Grouch Land for some reason
Good times!
Yeah, I noticed that "few phones in movies" thing a while back.
Mostly because I noticed how much of traditional movie plot is two characters simply not being able to communicate found information with each other. Like a WHOLE movie can be about two people trying to contact one another, or all conflict hinges on two characters just missing one another.
Mobil technology has kind of killed 50% of the easiest plot devices and writers clearly aren't up to the challenge of coming up with new ideas.
Yeah good riddance. I'm even more annoyed when characters are right next to each other but just don't want to tell each other something and I have to wait 3 hours for them to figure it out.
@@speedracer2please Yeah, exactly!
A more subtle thing that gets me is when there's time between scenes and the characters don't exchange info at any point off screen. Like three days can go buy and they never talked about the key facts because the conversation needs a scene of its own.
I hear this argument about roleplaying games all the time and always laugh. Like, imagine pulling your phone out, googling some Cthulhian mystery, and coming across just pages and pages of horseshit and conspiracy theories. It would absolutely not help you.
For some reason the first story I thought of that becomes a lot shorter with cell phones is 'Waiting for Godot'.
1:20 For a Sesame Street game, it's a bit ironic they got "than" and "then" mixed up.
You would think a company devoted to educating kids would have that on lock.😂
Elmo teach bad english on educational show
@@jonathancharron7360 why waste time say lot word when few word do trick
Elmo is three.
I'm more impressed the first game didn't even pretend to be educational.
Elmoe teech Inglish gud.
Aw man Elmo on Grouchland was the first movie I ever saw in the cinema!
I can't get over how in the second game, the start looks like Elmo is juggling his own eyeballs
Arin's elmo impression summoning demons had me lose it
25:34-the sketch was called Jingleheimer Junction, a true SNL classic. 😆👍🏻
My favorite was Umberto Unity.
I’m happy to say that their speedrun of Elmo in Grouchland lands them 33rd in the world. Well done, boys! 💪🏻
You're telling me Dan and Arin have never seen this movie??
Looks like there's some Patreon content right there.
i'm SAYING! this movie is so fun and weird
Im pretty sure this game came with certian copies of the movie
Are you thinking of elmo in grouchland? Cuz that shit slapped
THERE'S A MOVIE?!
I thought this was just an original game like they often release!
Jingleheimer Junction is one of the best SNL sketches of all time, I'm so happy to hear Mr Business appreciates it too
Yeah, but the "angle of the dangle" thing is older than that.. it was in the Nerds movies in the 80s, I think, and I know it was on Bevis and butthead too.
He also got his math wrong. (Pushes glasses up nose) The angle of the dangle is inversely proportional to the heat of the beat.
it's good, but it's no Sean Connery Jeopardy.
When Papers Please? Glory to Arstotzka
Glory to Arstotzka!!
Glory Greatest! 🫡
MOTHER PROUD
Potato man! 🥔
Artoska. Artoka? Arstotzka
I love the movie. I memorized the "MINE" song word for word.
My favorite Elmo game was Elmo's Preschool. I loved making him eat cupcakes repeatedly.
Elmo in grouchland and Cinderelmo were some of my favorite movies as a kid😂❤
they should've watched the elmo in grouchland movie to prepare for this episode. i put it on for a kid i babysit a few months ago and was like wow! this is much more strange than i remember it being at age 4
@16:23 Elmo looks like he's strung out and mindlessly juggling bloody eyeballs......
I have a 16 month old and she is just pointing at the tv going Elmo. Thank you for making a video I can enjoy with my child in the room 🤣🤣
Dan did something that I do when he brought up eating at the restaurant and then stated there was nothing else to it. What I do is state something that sounds like it's going somewhere and finish with "And that's the whole story."
I might be almost 31, but the Elmo in Grouchland movie will always be a cinematic masterpiece.
I remember this! This game is based off a really good movie called Elmo in Grouchland and it’s a cult classic. I remember having a lil gay crush on the Queen of trash. Also the songs are amazing. Highly recommend.
This is the second time I’ve read about this being based on a movie. I feel as though I have be deprived of that sweet sweet childhood experience (and potential trauma)
Classic Game Grumps moment to briefly question if there are multiple Grouches in a game called "Elmo in Grouchland"
Hearing Dan say “my wife….” makes me happy every time
Oh man... the nostalgia... a core memory was recovered watching this... I remember playing these as a really little child at my babysitters house when I was like.... 5 or 6.
The angle of the dangle is directly proportional to the aft of the shaft
Today's intro in the generated subtitles is:
"hey I'm Grum I'm not Sue Gruff and the game GRS"
Elmo juggling the eyes of his victims on his way to the carnival
The Game Grumps have remained one of the most consistent things in my life.
Same
Core memory unlocked! One of the first video games I remember ever playing
It's like Bart's Nightmare but with Elmo
I had that same thought when Elmo slowly fell down the trash can, reminded me specifically of the nuclear stage with all the Smilin' Joe Fission characters and enemies to pop.
I love how they continually confirm the plot of the Elmo in Grouchland film without intending to
"Huxley's kind of just being a dick about it"
"Maybe it's 'mine' as in ownership?"
Fun Fact regarding writers deliberately not adding cell phones...cell phones are famously hard for the prop department and editors to coordinate on. Green screening to make sure the phone screen has what is intended to be there is time consuming, and is even more so when people have different phones. It's easiest if writers omit the the use of phones completely.
It never occurred to me that phone screens in movies are actually green screens…
Depending on the set, it's often blue screens instead. That's also why you get the floating text bubbles with someone just typing on the phone. You wouldn't think it but a fair amount of compositing goes into screen replacement.
16:24 given the coloring it totally looks like Elmo is juggling spare eyeballs
Dan is thinking of the SNL bit Jingleheimer Junction at the end. It is still a good bit. Everyone needs to watch that at least once.
Why’s Dan nervous about Elmo? 😂
He is a canon furry
Elmo remembers the time he knifed his back and made him laugh
Well Elmo will do ANYTHING to get his blanket back
I think dan is scarred from all the games that turned out to be horror games that arin tried to convince him weren’t
The last time he witnessed Elmo, Arin did surgery on him and he laughed.
Oh hey, big Zan.
25:35 I know that SNL bit, it's Jingleheimer Junction! I saw that bit when I was like, 11, and to this day, it's still one my absolute favorite things I've ever seen on SNL.
The Elmo in Grouchland movie is a core childhood memory for me, excited
You guys should totally play the Elmo in Grouchland PC version of the game!
That game was my childhood ❤
I neeeed them to play the PC point-and-click version of Elmo in Grouchland so bad. I loved it so much as a kid.
9:01 Happy 69th birthday, Eddie Van Halen!
3:53 DOES ELMO HAVE A FRICKIN FLAMETHROWER?!😂
20:11 Was that a freaking Galaxy Quest reference?! If Dan's seen Galaxy Quest, he's GOT to see Elmo in Grouchland. They came out the same year!
Using a strategically timed droplet (that was ironically launched upward) from a fire hydrant to take down a liquid shooting helicopter probably explained why the tear-jerking film Love Actually can confidently pull out its hose while smugly saying that it didn't have to tickle Elmo to get wet.
You can't fool me with your AI-generated comments, ChatGPT!
I loved this movie growing up! We had it on DVD and I watched it repeatly with my little sister. I feel like if i watched it again as an adult I'm going to see its actually terrifying
If they're playing Gameboy games I'd love to see them play one of the Hamtaro games.
elmo's juggling balls look just like his eyeballs in the beginning
What a way to spend my birthday, watching the grumps play a 3 word spelling game featuring elmo.
I'm 28
Happy belated birthday! I'll be turning 28 in May 🙌🏻
@@helloimellieful Thanks! Wooo 28 hype I guess haha
This was my game when I was a kid. I would play and replay this all the time. Loved it and am so happy to see the Grumps play this!
I had an Elmo Number game on GBC, and it had WAY more than the alphabet one! It was space themed with more than one game and more music. If memory serves me right, it involved Elmo with stars, rockets, searchlights, the moon, jetpacks, UFO's etc. You chose games on a staircase just like the alphabet game, and they share the same game selection song. That's honestly the most nostalgic part to me. And thanks to the opening cutseen of a space craft droppong Elmo off at Sesame St., then he hovers a few times with his jetpack, for a while I thought Elmo was a space alien all along!
I find the title hilarious since I finally decided to binge Good Game yesterday 😂
Elmo is when Sesame Street jumped the shark. Fight me.
Rocco.
I like how the Elmo in Grouchland ignores the entire moral of the movie which is about sharing.
Flashbacks to the absolute banger Elmo in grouchland movie
In actual SESAME GAUNTLET, Elmo is the red warrior that shoots the food.
Oh my god, as a fellow Gauntlet lover, thank you for this. 10/10 joke
I loved the movie Elmo in Grouchland! I had it on VCR.
Elmo seems like such a chad, walking with that hammer with that bass-y GameBoy music.
OMG!!!!! you guys just reawakened hidden memories. I used to play elmo in grouchland all the time as a kid
Elmo juggling looks like he ripped out peoples eyes and they are still bloody with the optic nerve still attached
Does anybody else think the title screen music sounds like Death by Glamour from Undertale?
5:33 come on, game designers
Get with it!
I didn’t know that Huxley was Elmo’s arch nemesis.
im not joking when i say the grumps playing old obscure games like this is so important for games preservation
You know, until I saw the credits, I was half convinced this was some sort of bizarre fan project or meme game.
I love it when they play retro kid games
its so fun
The skit dan talks about near the end is Jingleheimer Junction
the elmo in grouchland movie was my favorite when i was a kid! it was the first movie i ever saw in a movie theater!
As soon as Dan started mentioning the Will Ferrell sketch, I knew EXACTLY what he was talking about- it's freaking hilarious!
Elmo in grouchland was a psychedelic dream that I thought I'd never wake from
22:25 Google Kevin Clash, the voice of Elmo for almost 30 years and that's why they discontinued him for a spell, but they didn't get rid of Elmo entirely.
i haD **BOTH OF THESE GAMES AS A KID** omg I haven't ever seen anyone mention either ever in my life 😭
Elmo and grouchland is still one of my favorite movies. I was so excited to see this!
My God Arins Elmo voice is INSANELY good
I used to love the movie elmo in grouchland as a kid and seeing theres a game of it is crazy
Now I kinda want to watch elmo in grouch land, there's lore I'm missing here.
im going to sob my eyes out this was one of my fav movies growing up and had no idea there was a game for it... and now my fav boys are playing it
I JUST REMEMBERED FOR THE FIRST TIME A SPECIFIC CHILDHOOD MEMORY, I LOVED THIS MOVIE AS A LITTLE KID. LIKE TINY. wow so weird to recognize something from probably about 20 years ago
1999.
Are we gonna talk about how, at the beginning of the second game, Elmo is juggling what can only be eyeballs? What else could those be? They look exactly like his eyes and have a nerve-ending trailing from them.
19:20 Elmo summoning demons bit
"it was only 2003!" That was 21 years ago, Dan, TWENTY ONE YEARS AGO... I know. It hurts. Everything hurts 🥺
This is the perfect game to play with my cat, Oscar the Grouch. He'll spend the whole time screaming at me while I fail.
Because I laughed so hard at Dan's description of the SNL skit, I looked up "Jingleheimer Junction".
I then learned that the musical guest for that particular SNL show was none other than The Smashing Pumpkins. And in 1998, not long after they'd produced Arin's favourite album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.
There was a VHS movie of Elmo in grouchland that terrified me as a child. I completely forgot about it until watching this video so thanks for bringing up some old trauma 👍
Guys the iPhone didn’t come out until 2007. We were still using flip phones and regular button phones with basic text functionality in 2003.
It had nothing to do with an effort to keep smartphones out of movies it’s just 21 years old
So here's the really weird thing: Jingleheimer Junction (the SNL video Danny's talking about toward the end of the episode) JUST came up on my recommended list yesterday ^.^
My dad still used his Sony camcorder in 2006. Our 2004 trio to Disney exists only in a withering Sony cam cassette.
Sesame street first aired november 10th, 1969! It's still going to this day, too, so it's literally the childhood of at least 3-4 generations depending on if kids still watch it/how young or old some people's grandparents or parents are.
Danny, 2003 was 2 decades ago. Smartphones really weren't a thing until 2007 and no one would be using the camera for another decade for anything important.
1:01 Looks like Towelie from South Park 😛
