My holy grail for a portable monitor right now is a 1080p OLED monitor with a built in battery. This company Innocn makes a 4K OLED with a battery, but I don't care to have a 15.6" 4K screen, 1080p would be plenty. They also have a few different 1080p OLED monitors, but none of them have the built in battery 😒.

1080p and 720p can both be integer scaled to 4k, so a 4k panel is actually quite versatile in that sense

Now, when these screens can be powered directly from USB-C, is it really that much needed for the screen having a built in battery?

@@sirmiluch6856 built in battery is actually stupid as over time the battery degrades.. with a power bank you can just replace the power bank.. have 10 power banks with you if you need.. built in battery is for dumbskies imo..

I'm debating between their portable one and the game one. I don't need the 144hz since its for my steam deck, but I'm worried the standard version will have loads of input lag. Also considering the 14". I've been looking at their portable monitors for like 6 months, but never bit the bullet thinking I'll regret not spending more money on a bigger brand

Got this monitor around 2 weeks ago for £100 here in the UK on Amazon. Its amazing and would highly recommend this 100%! The monitor can be powered via the connected device i.e. iPad Pro in my case so you don't have to connect it to a power source unless you want to send power through it and power the connected device. Granted the included case is good to protect the screen but is poor as a stand. Currently using this as my "Out and About" gaming monitor with my ASUS ROG ALLY and can confirm full 144Hz support @ 1080p :)

Just ordered one for use as a huge sensor panel for my pc so I can monitor my hardware without having the layout on my main screen.
This is actually cheaper than most 60hz 5 - 7 inch displays which just shows how overpriced those sensor panels really are.

A good monitor lasts many, many years.
You shouldn't buy anything for a hypothetical future, but if you need a portable monitor, and this one isn't much more expensive than a 60Hz one, if you take care of it, who says you wouldn't be able to take advantage of it on a future device?
As it stands now, I wouldn't get it even though I'm considering getting a portable monitor for my steam deck, but I like that it exists.

Just thought I'd drop by to say if you're willing to spend more and want a monitor that has a battery built in for less wires, 144hz 1080p, and low latency, get the ASUS ROG Strix XG16AHPE, I just bought one for $350. Sorry I couldn't get the one you advertised here Nerdnest, it's a solid choice and really cheap for a 144hz, but I decided to go more pricy for something that works better for me, I still thank you for giving me the idea that this was even possible

for me, personally,. I think the refresh rate is not worth it specially if it's for mobile devices like steamdeck and you're going to use it for portability... for portability, battery life or power consumption is one of the top priorities and I don't think there's a lot of mobile device that can output 144Hz for mobile PC gaming. Yes you can use it for Android or iOS gaming via HML but there's not a lot of games that supports more than 60hz... it's indeed overkill. but a nice to have for the future if the mobile handheld technology gets better. but portable monitors will also get better and by that time this current model might be outdated.

    • @andrebrait
      @andrebrait Год назад

High refresh rates can alleviate frame misses during inconsistent frame pacing scenarios, because the time it has to wait to present the delayed frame is a lot shorter

i bought this to use instead of my gaming laptop's screen in my setup (allows monitors to be closer together in my vertically stacked setup)
this monitor is totally worth it to me! i couldn't get the stand it came with to be useful for anything but i planned on using a stand that turns it into a desktop monitor anyway.
for a 300 nit monitor i'm satisfied with the fact that it gets dimmer than my 220 nit drawing monitor when turning brightness all the way down
i wish there was a way to customize the default behavior of the wheel thing when you dont need the full menu. i don't use the speakers ever, so i want to change that to just be a brightness adjuster. that's literally the only setting i ever mess with as i only use it for my laptop right now.
for the price, it's a 9/10 for me. if the stand it came with was cooler or if they made a really good first party option to buy (like the desktop style stand i bought, that would be cool) it would be a 10/10.
i recommend as long as it's at the $159.99 price or lower. if it's above 160 idk what else is available and there could be better options

1080p is a deal breaker for next gen consoles like series x
Because series x plays in series s/one x graphics mode if played on 1080p.
Or in other words it only displays better graphics when played on 1440p or higher

If you can't run most things at more than 60 fps why get a 120 hz monitor? I play a lot of indies and I still don't see the point 120 hz is for big beefed pcs. However I did use your link to get a great deal on a 60 hz 1080 p monitor for a 100 bucks. Correct me if I'm wrong but hz relates to fps. So if you are going 60 fps 120 hz does nothing right?

Even scrolling through webpages or text documents is way better on higher refresh rates. Your eyes get tired a lot less because you're basically getting rid of blurry mess of 60Hz screens when something is moving.
