Another exorbitantly well-made video. It's a pleasure to look at your posts. Clean construction. Facts are presented briefly and precisely. Excellent pictures with harmonious background music. Authentic presenter who you immediately like and like. I'm glad you're on the right track with your diabetes. Regarding the Z6 III, I think the point of the in-camera interface via NX Studio with the flexible colors is still too underrated. I think Nikon consciously observed the market and recognized what contributed significantly to Fujifilm's success. With Picture Control, Nikon had an early opportunity to give Jpegs their own look directly from the camera. It was only possible to adjust too little in the important area of colors. Technically, Nikon overtook Fujifilm extremely quickly and has now moved ahead when it comes to almost finished images straight from the camera. A Nikon Zs would really be a blessing. Hope Nikon brings the camera.
Yes hope this feature comes via firmware - really exciting stuff with the Z6iii and fingers crossed for the ZS! Thanks so much for watching, I am relieved about my health more than anything else

@@BokehTherapy Thanks for the reply. I also have the Tamron 35-150 and to my eye the images are right there with my primes except the 135mm f1.8. So I wonder if I should keep the primes or sell. Yes the Tamron is heavy in hand, but still lighter and less money than multiple primes. So I go back and forth on this one.
Great video.. your style is refreshing.. I like your scientific method where you back up statements with facts. I have found many of your statements to really hit home. The main one that I have experienced myself is having too many options leaves you always wondering if you made the correct choice and can lead to not getting the shop because you spend to much time worrying about what you don’t have with you. Keep up the great work..
The video was fantastic. The Nikon Z6III looks impressive, but since I already own a ZF, I find that I don't need it. However, I'm considering selling the ZF because the flip-out screen is a deal breaker for me. After two months of using the ZF, I've concluded that the flip-out screen isn't ideal for travel, street photography, or portrait work, at least not for me. I'm glad to hear your health is good and that you got the results you were hoping for. Stay healthy and make sure to incorporate some sort of fitness routine into your seemingly busy schedule.
Thanks so much for watching and your kind words! The flip out screen is not ideal, I just leave it alone and treat it like it doesn’t flip at all. Fitness is a constant struggle, off for a run now!
Another phenomenal video. So glad your results were good. I absolutely love your vides and outlook on life. Keep up the good work. One Question, why the asterisk next to the A1?
Thank you Bob - the A1 is the cleanest example of overpaying for what I didn’t use or need in a featureset. Trying to remind myself that while avoiding the temptation to preorder the Z6III lol
I loved this eloquent, advice-packed video, as usual--yours is my new fav. YT photo channel. So glad your blood work is back to normal. I'm itching to get the Zf, as an enthusiast travel and landscape photo shooter (no videos), but the main thing holding me back from buying is the lack of great Z-mount lenses that combine great IQ with a satisfying clicky aperture ring and moderate to compact size, with the fine tactile feel of the wonderful vintage AI lenses that keep the overall weight and size down to a manageable burden for aging backs. I'd love to see AF focus rings with a clutch and depth of field scale for manual focus, ideally with hard stops. If Nikon doesn't license lenses to Sigma for their elegant, light Contemporary i -series for Z mount, I wish they would make their own "classic" series lenses with aperture rings, perhaps with more compact f/2 aperture designs (like Leica's 'and Fuji's "crons"). And we especially need a much better IQ & reasonably sized 28mm lens on the menu. Once an array of excellent moderate-sized classic lenses are introduced, then yes, Nikon should add a fine ZS rangefinder camera, with the new Z6III EVF.
The Z6III can be for the hybrid market, generating insane profits so that Nikon can afford to make the ZS and a whole line of vintage lenses. This is the dream!! Thanks so much for watching, my ZS musings will be next week.
great job as always Jack, it's an easy line to make what I wish I'd known back when, but without our mistakes we don't appreciate our growth. we are all doctors when it comes to hindsight. Happy 40th birthday too!
Great video - I was a long term Nikon shooter and got sick of waiting for the Z6iii and bought a Sony A7iv instead and am very happy with it. The colour science and ergos are now great and I really find the extra MP usefull when cropping and it's $1500 cheaper and has a far greater choice in lenses.
I have carried on about wanting a Z6iii for so many years that I ended up with a Zf and Z8. I rarely shoot at more than 4 frames a second and the Z8 covers that. Pre getting those I was a dual Z6 and Z6ii in a harness. The 6's and Zf trump the Z8 for high ISO shooting by a lot so I was contemplating the 6iii to partner the Zf for low light events but at $1500 more for the 6iii over the Zf when for my use they perform almost identically so .....
I Iove my Zf, almost considered getting a second one to shoot events over the Z6III. can’t believe how much I love the Zf, they got so many things right with that body
Thank you for another thoughful video! And I am happy you got good news about your health. While i am excited to see the z6iii in a shop, i think i can hold off, as there really aren't enough differences to justify it over the Zf for me.
Thank you - I will go into a shop and hold the camera in hand first, but I am thinking the same thing unless I have specific video projects in mind. Hope you’re doing well!!
@@BokehTherapy yeah, this is a good thought! I have been considering trying to do something like this for a while, but have not pushed myself to do it yet. I supposed I did a little with my cellphone, since it is so easy, but I do not love the vertical orientation it promotes.
Such a great video, love the story telling aspect. A close family member had a similar health issue and he eats clean and exercise so you're right about putting in the work. The new nikon camera looks impressive but I went back to basics, I have the r6mk2 and it's amazing but it's heavy and not fun to use on a daily basis. I was thinking of getting one of those fuji cameras but decided wanted to stick with canon. I got an obsolete system the m6mk2, small compact and pretty amazing eventhough it came out in 2019. The best camera is the one I use and I'm loving the small form factor and pancake lens over those f1.2 lens
The canon M is great, pity they discontinued it! Smaller retro cameras are all the rage, don’t know why every company isn’t diving more into their heritage. That’s what all the watch companies did for the last few years. Thanks for watching, always nice to hear from you!
@@BokehTherapy happy to hear your blood test results are clear and ok, best wishes to your health and your youtube channel, love your videos. i think or hope canon will release a retro camera, i'd say prob 3-5 years before canon acts on it, they're a watch and see approach from the mirrorless days. With that said i just pulled out my film camera and put in a roll of 36 - kodak portra 400 film, so sastifying shooting film, bit pricy compared to shooting digital. have a great one!
It was a relief more than anything else! Will need regular checkups every year from this point on. I love making these type of videos so glad you like them - more coming next week!
As a Zf shooter, I have to add two advantages for the Z6 III. Improved ergonomics. I still find the exposure compensation dial etc. awkward in the Zf and the placement of the front dial is not optimal. The Z6 also has a 2nd function button next to the lens mount. Number 2: setting memory banks (U1/2/3) makes life better when needing quick changes (e.g., when switching specific lenses).
Yes to the ergonomic improvements! I can get along with the Zf fine but not for fast action pro shooting. A memory bank via firmware would be very welcome
Jack, Yet another very clever and fresh take on grappling with the "Is it the right camera for me?" decision. And more visual poetry? Yes, bring it on! ;-) On the more serious stuff, diabetes. My wife and I have both had to deal with our respective family-inherited silent threat. Both of us serious athletes and very uber-healthy eaters. All was fine until we each hit around our 45-50 year mark. More radical changes to diet helped for a bit. But after a couple more years my wife had to begin daily medication. And in time, she's had to take additional/different meds. Point is, we all have to keep monitoring it over time. And if/when the time comes when diet and activity are not enough and medication is needed, then just do it and keep moving forward. It's about going the distance and squeezing as much juice out of this life that the gods will give us. Best of luck, Craig
Thanks Craig, always good to hear how others have approached health as we age. Diet and exercise have worked for now, need to sustain it for the rest of time. Glad to hear you and your wife are managing it well, and thanks as always for reaching out!
I use my Z6II to film myself, I'm verrry happy about the flippy screen. I'm very much looking forward to the Z6III. Question: If you didn't have the Zf...would you get a Z6III?
Thanks Jason, you’re the first one I’ve heard who likes the flip screen - glad it’s useful for you! A combined tilt and flip seems to be the only way to please everyone. I am a sucker for the retro design of the Zf, and am still considering the Z6III but it’s not essential for my workflow. Too expensive at launch for something I don’t need right now - let me know if/when your Z6III arrives!
@@BokehTherapy As always I will be buying from my local camera store and they just messaged me today that they got some in. My Z6II went in a river last summer (tighten those tripods people!)…it still works, but I can only turn it on and off by putting in and taking out the battery (to Nikon this was unrepairable). I agree the price point is a bit steep but I’m trying to justify it currently. 📸😎
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the new Z6iii. I also have the Zf and mainly video record on my iPhone because it does such a good job. I really like the new EVF specs and that’s about it.
It really is a video-specific upgrade that benefits fast action photography the most, not so much other genres. I shoot a lot of video but can’t justify $4500 AUD for the Z6iii! Hopefully the price drops soon
@@BokehTherapy price is about AUD$500 too much. Nikon needs a better USD conversion calculator. Price should come down in only six months, maybe November Black Friday??. I bought the Zf thinking it will be much cheaper than Z6iii and still be a great stills shooter because of the xpeed 7 and way better AF. Glad I did and I’m super happy with the Zf performance compared to previous Z5/6ers.
@@BokehTherapy 3k would make more sense. I’m guessing that Nikon has priced this high to reduce demand in the beginning so that they can deliver on time.
I join everyone else in congratulating you on your good results! I'm a fellow Zf owner, converted from Nikon DSLRs and SLRs. (I have an F100 somewhere that was my favorite camera until i got my D800.). Needless to say, that Z6iii looks fantastic. But I came to same conclusion that it's just shy of what I really want. I don't shoot sports but I do prefer a larger body when I shoot for a client. So, while I like shooting the Zf for personal work either the Z8 or Z9 will be more effective for me. What's more likely is that the next version of Z7, Z8, or Z9 will present a more compelling use case for me. I really enjoyed watching your video. It was like the RUclips version of my own thought process...just substantially better in every way.
The Z8 looks very compelling, just wish it was 20% smaller. I will reserve final judgement until I play with it in hand at a camera store - but keeping my powder dry til the price goes down. Thanks so much for watching!
@@BokehTherapy I have no doubt the Z8 is right up my alley. The Zf is just so good that I can afford to wait for the next Nikon magic trick. I really hope this Nikon mirrorless rangefinder comes to fruition. It should keep the hype going until we see RED tech filter down to the Z line. Might be 2026 before we see it.
If they get a full frame ZS out this year, all the Fujifilm shooters I know will jump ship! Interesting times ahead, like you I cannot believe how much I love my Zf
Glad ur blood results came back fine. I, however didn't have that blessing. Since 2016 Dec. At the end of the day, it's nice to see newer cameras come out. However, I don't need a new one just yet. So happy with my edc Ricoh GRd. Awesome shots as always brother
You’re getting really great shots with the GRd! Hope you are managing the symptoms OK, it’s a war of attrition on my end health wise. Very strict diet and exercise regime to keep my doctor happy
Early dinner (5pm), late breakfast (10am) to encourage intermittent fasting. Replace carbs with salad, mostly grilled meats as protein. Tested my fasting sugars every morning to check what foods spiked and what didn’t. Exercise made some difference but not as much as the approach to meals.
Thanks for the Z6III overview. I also don't need the new features, especially as I never do video (would like to try it though)! The ZF should have: rangefinder-style body, 33Mp-40MP sensor (24MP would also be ok partially stacked would be ok but not a must). B&W Switch, same or better build than the ZF, the EVF of the Z6III, the tilt screen of the Z8, a CF and SD card slot. It should ship with the 26mm as a kit (though I already have it)-it simply is sharper wide open and more contrasty then the 40/28mm. Even better would be a new 35mm F2 Z with an aperture ring. Would pay about 3k for this. No need for an optical viewfinder, too expensive.
I find this fear fully relateable this week. I too went into the doctors worried about a genetic predisposed issue, but for me it was of the autoimmune variety. Turns out no, just a hernia. I'm 34 and in good shape. 😂 At least the surgery isn't so bad on this one.
I follow your logic of if you don’t need or won’t use it don’t pay for it. Ordered z5 24-200mm kit and a viltrox 20mm with all the summer discounts. £1600. Annoying the second lens went out of stock so I have a wait. Z6iii features seem so caveated its bordering on false advertising.
That sounds like an amazing deal! All the Z6III upgrades sound amazing for video, only modest upgrades for most types of photography. It’s $4500 in Australia so you have to really need all its specs!
Manual focus lenses tend not to be weather sealed - will have a look to see if any autofocus lenses have more manual focus features. Thanks for the idea!
@@BokehTherapy will Voigtländer lens able to have weather seal if they just put a rubber ring around the mount or the manual focus ring's gap going to need to redesign too to be true weather seal?
Appreciate your vulnerability to share such a personal experience. Your flow feels more and poetic as you evolve. Maybe a byproduct of your eminent mid life crisis.😂 And don’t worry, the research on “natural” solutions for epigenetic changes in your family profiles is well established. Sounds like you’re already doing all the right things to stop the generational transfer. Good on you! 👊
Haha yup midlife crisis sounds about right. Diet changed a lot more for me than exercise, still tweaking the right habits. Thanks for watching as always!
I’m in the don’t need camp. Undoubtedly it’s a great camera, but I don’t think that a $4500 AUD camera body is actually ‘mid-range’ as the marketing would have us believe - that’s a big chunk of change for most enthusiasts. I doubt it offers half as much again as a Zf, with most of the new features (though nice) not required for my use case at present.
Yes how did they land at $4500! I shoot a lot of video, but still can’t quite justify that launch price. The Zf is fantastic for stills, it may be my favourite camera ever. Thanks for watching
Interesting - at the initial launch for those cameras? I heard about the Z8 recall but not anything about the Zf. Picked mine up about 3 months after the initial announcement
@@BokehTherapy no…just recently…Zf customers having issues with hot pixels on the sensor. The Nikon fix was to pixel map, creating blank spots in the image. A friend of mine had a z8 and the lens mount & lens fell off the camera…that was soon after the launch.
I used to be in this camp, but I need the latest software support for newer cameras. One day I’ll start shooting film and quit the whole subscription game!
@@BokehTherapy I started to shoot some film recently, and that is what finally pushed me to get Lightroom so I could more easily scan and convert the negatives. Getting out of subscriptions is difficult, ha ha.

Telling viewers that the 4k 120 1.5x crop has become just normal expectation, is wild. Millions of mirrorless cameras with no crop have been sold to everyday recreational shooters. Please don’t make your own normal everybody else’s normal. Myself and so many other amateurs will always pay the “unnecessary”premium for No Crop.
By all means pay for the features you want, but it’s not practical to pay for 4K120 if you’re photo first (which is the case in my street photography community). A7IV is one of the most popular cameras and we’ve all been dealing with bad crop factors for video
@@BokehTherapy Yes, brother. That is exactly my point. It’s not practical at all, yet we still desire and purchase it as if it is, even though we know it’s not.
@@BokehTherapy Myself and a few other amateur/enthusiasts in the neighborhood have A7S3's and FX3's, and we're not even coming close to maximizing the full potential of these bodies. It's such a ridiculous sentiment of assuming we will eventually "grow into our cinematic capabilities" with this gear. Even worse, we barely even shoot as we all originally planned to, but you'd still have to pry these cameras from our cold dead hands because we swear one day that we will need full frame 4k60 / 4k120 with no crop. We're all absolutely ridiculous. And rest assured, the wives can never know LOL.
That damn flippy screen that nikon has implemented is bc of all the moronic youtube reviewers who shoot video and constantly complained. I hate video and I bought a camera to shoot pictures! If you want a video camera then buy one.
@@BokehTherapy i was just extremely disappointed they put it on the zf. The z6iii is more realistic as its a hyrid camera but zf is a true photo camera. I still bought the zf.
By the way man, is there some freelance work you can offer me to help me get a hard drive asap so i can back thibgs uo and continue move on to create contents to get back on track in life quicker? :-)

I loved your video... Thanks for transparency
Thanks for watching! More to come this week
Another great video Jack. Always look forward every weekend for your new videos.
Thanks so much! More next week!
First time here. Thanks for the video and fresh perspective. I wish you the best with your health goals
Thanks so much, health can’t be taken for granted. Welcome to the channel!
Very well thought out video jack!
Thank you Chris!
great job as always Jack, it's an easy line to make what I wish I'd known back when, but without our mistakes we don't appreciate our growth. we are all doctors when it comes to hindsight. Happy 40th birthday too!
Thanks Tim, I’ve had a reflective 40th birthday surrounded by friends and family, and now the RUclips community. Lovely way to spend the time!
The newer Sony bodies are great - A7IV is a great deal especially on sale. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@@BokehTherapy thanks! Despite wanting to do video at some point, I can count on one hand the amount of videos I took on my Fuji Xt4 and the newer Zf.
Some Timelapses of your miniatures being painted/made from scratch? Might be useful for those new to the game!
@@BokehTherapy can't wait till next video!
Wow we have a detailed breakdown of the new Z6iii key features, words of wisdom life advice, and personal interest all interwoven.
Thanks for watching!
Your videos are excellent and very inspiring. I'm glad you're okay! Greetings from Argentina
Thanks so much - more content to come this week
Perfect timing for the Z6III release - happy shooting!
@@BokehTherapy thanks same to you…and congrats on the health results…getting older sucks lol.
Sure does - older but "wiser" right lol
@@mjr333 Yes the Zf is on sale for under $3K AUD unbelievable value for what you're getting.
Great video as always, how was the blood test mate?
Glad to hear that the test results were good!
Phew, yes results came back clean. Thank you!
Golf clap. Well said and done. Glad your health is okay too!
Thanks so much - can’t take chances on health after 40. More to come next week!
@@BokehTherapy perhaps you can share with me what you did
@@BokehTherapy oh and thanks for the nice compliments! I prefer yours over mine
Love your videos.
Thanks so much Greg!
Yes on every front! OVF is too hard to make, especially if it’s a hybrid EVF. A retro Z30 style full frame body would sell like hotcakes
Please review the Megadap ETZ21 pro. I would like to adapt my Sony glass on my just picked up Nikon Zf.
Thanks for the idea - will try to track it down. I haven’t used it before
I find this fear fully relateable this week. I too went into the doctors worried about a genetic predisposed issue, but for me it was of the autoimmune variety. Turns out no, just a hernia. I'm 34 and in good shape. 😂
At least the surgery isn't so bad on this one.
Glad you got it checked out - thanks for watching!
So, do you prefer any EVF between Z6iii and Zf ?
The Zf’s EVF is great already for my use case! I’m sure the z6iii will have a better one, so great options either way
Brilliant.
Thanks so much - more to come!
I am happy with my Zf and do not need the Z6III. The Z6III appears to be a great camera and will sell very well.
Yes Nikon will sell a truckload, and use those profits to make a rangefinder Zf! Please!
Another great video! Have you considered/looked into carnivore diet?
Thanks for the suggestion - chicken salad plus cutting carbs is what I’m on now. Eating nothing but protein is full on!
Can you suggest some weather seal manual lens or auto with manual markings lens for Zf
None of the voigtlander lenses are weather sealed unfortunately. The helicoid manual focus mechanism just isn’t sealed against the elements
@@BokehTherapy I see, hope they able to make weather seal version in next structure redesign!
❤❤❤
Thank you!
okay how about nikon z7 iii with 90mpx?
Nobody has any information about the Z7III - should be a great camera if it ever comes out. Thanks for watching!
Appreciate your vulnerability to share such a personal experience.
Your flow feels more and poetic as you evolve. Maybe a byproduct of your eminent mid life crisis.😂
And don’t worry, the research on “natural” solutions for epigenetic changes in your family profiles is well established. Sounds like you’re already doing all the right things to stop the generational transfer. Good on you! 👊
Haha yup midlife crisis sounds about right. Diet changed a lot more for me than exercise, still tweaking the right habits. Thanks for watching as always!
100% flip screen but yes - it not a dealbreaker. Even touchscreen
ot is not important
Yup it’s all doable! Nikon’s flip screen feels quite sturdy on the Zf. Thanks for watching!
Not buying enough Camera can be just as costly or More as buying too much.
Haha amazing. Thanks for watching!
I’ve heard lots of awful things about Z8 and Zf in terms of build quality and sensor issues. I’ll stick with my Z6ii for now
Interesting - at the initial launch for those cameras? I heard about the Z8 recall but not anything about the Zf. Picked mine up about 3 months after the initial announcement
@@BokehTherapy no…just recently…Zf customers having issues with hot pixels on the sensor. The Nikon fix was to pixel map, creating blank spots in the image. A friend of mine had a z8 and the lens mount & lens fell off the camera…that was soon after the launch.
Thanks for the tip I will check out my Zf. Hopefully the Z8 problems were still under warranty
Hard disagree on the 2. point. I will never pay for a software subscription. Either there is a one time purchase option or i will pirate it.
Oh no the opposite of what I think should happen happened! They have their hooks into us for sure
Full frame range finder equivalent of a Zf = An M10
Haha yup, love my M10R and M10M
So what are your main photography/video subjects?
I like covering commuters and those who work different types of 9-5 jobs in different countries. Interesting perspective on the modern economy and it helps me with my day job when advising university students
Zack Snyder wouldn't agree with you on that 4K120.
Haha yup. We can’t all be Zack Snyder unfortunately
Ah yes we should demand more of the manufacturers, even if what we want isn’t what we always need. What body do you shoot on? Thanks for watching!
Haha yup that’s why I bought the FX3 too!
That damn flippy screen that nikon has implemented is bc of all the moronic youtube reviewers who shoot video and constantly complained. I hate video and I bought a camera to shoot pictures! If you want a video camera then buy one.
Haha yeah video is driving more sales it seems. The A7RV screen should be standard, give everyone the option of both
@@BokehTherapy i was just extremely disappointed they put it on the zf. The z6iii is more realistic as its a hyrid camera but zf is a true photo camera. I still bought the zf.
Think photo RUclips is finally coming around on the value of just a plain tilt screen
Man, just read all the other reviews/comparisons. Thought this was a camera review channel…
No hands on with the Z6III yet sadly - more of a photography and life channel than all about the gear. Thanks for watching, hope some of it resonated
By the way man, is there some freelance work you can offer me to help me get a hard drive asap so i can back thibgs uo and continue move on to create contents to get back on track in life quicker? :-)
The channel isn’t generating enough income to afford outsourcing any freelance work unfortunately. Hope you find some projects to work on soon

I know how you feel, worrying about your health.
I love chocolate but I also don't want to get diabetes.
It’s never too early to think about health. Regular checkups is the key. Thanks so much!
bro you don't look 40
Haha thank you - works against me most days at work, students don’t think I’m their professor when I walk in the classroom
$4499? Don't you mean 2499? That's what it's selling for. It's not $500 above the Z8 like your graphic shows.
That’s Australian dollars unfortunately. We get the short end of the currency conversion stick in Australia
@@BokehTherapy I'm no expert on currency conversion but according to the online calculator, $2500 USD is equivalent to $3,762 AUD or $1267 more. Or is that with tax included?
That’s the Australian markup right there. Happens to almost all our products. Sad but true
@@BokehTherapyi noticed when I visited Sydney in early 2020.
