Or you can grab car alarms and switches at the junkyard and wire it to the ignition. That's what I did. Very easy.
Off the subject. But what's up amazon selling their own motor oil? Think it's bad?
You missed the biggest reason Honda civics are the most wrecked and stolen. It has nothing to do with chop shop it’s because they are one of the best selling cars out there. If there are more opportunities to get stolen in wrecked it’d make sense that they would be more often.
You forgot to put the link for where can we buy common sense.

My father had a Prius. He loved it. Unfortunately my father is not a tech person. The TV remote can be a very frustrating thing to him. He thought he was so smart because he could start his Prius which of course used a button to start. He'd just leave the digital key in the car. I noticed this and asked wtf he was doing. "Well it's not like anybody will know how to start it." He literally said that. It's so on the cutting edge of tech nobody will ever be able to figure to hit ON. "Man, no key! Just this stupid ON button! No way to ever start it!" No, the car wasn't stolen, but it could have been taken so easily... Gtg, I think my dad is swearing at the microwave again.

Civic being the most stolen might also be due to the sheer number of civics on the road! More civics that exist = more civics that can be stolen
Young ones are the ones that normally steal them, however mechanics also are on the prowl

I was driving to work this morning and I noticed that you really can't be on the road with more than a few cars without seeing a Honda Civic: new ones, old ones, fast ones, slow ones, as a matter of fact I was driving one myself! It doesn't surprise me at all they are the most common wrecked and stolen car. I bet they get the most parking tickets, the most door dings and use the most pine-tree air conditioners too!

Civics attract lot of young punks too. More than the Corolla or any other low priced compacts.

Alternate hypothesis to Civics being theft #1. They are also some of the most common cars in America, so just statistically, they should be some of the most wrecked and most stolen. Every list I looked at has them in the top 10 most common, many say top 5 or 3. Just by the numbers it makes sense. Also I feel like theives would target economy cars because people who drive them have less time/resources to punish them for it. There is the whole Civic tuning scene. Lots of factors. I think you're right about having highest demand for parts being part of it, but just by the fact there are more Civics out there than almost any other car, they would be the most wrecked and most stolen.
Civics also hold their value well and are reasonably desirable which means a quick sell that pays well enough.
They are also the easiest to steal from the 90s. You can start the car with a shaved key.
@@itsclobberingtime631 doesn't have to be shaved can be any standard Honda key
ITS CLOBBERING TIME!!!!!!!!!!! I'll do you one better. I got in a car wreck in my 94 civic a couple years ago and had to have the passenger door replaced with a salvaged door. Few months ago it got stolen, I got lucky and got it back, and I had to have the ignition replaced so, different key. I just recently found out that my new key unlocks the door on my passenger side XD out of curiosity I tried using my old original key on it as well and that didn't work. That definitely was a wake-up call for how unsecure the older models are lol
I have an alternate idea as well which is close to yours. If I were a thief, I’d steal cars like civics because they are so common it’d be hard for police to stop every civic on the road looking for the 20 that have been stolen in my town since this morning. I can mod them to look very different: grill, exhaust, paint, tints, etc. In half a morning, the car could been unrecognizable combined with expired or stolen plates.
A lot of thieves liked this video. They appreciate the information Scotty gave them about keyless entry systems. Lol.

I was told by a New Jersey cop that the best way to keep your car from getting stolen was to install 2 separate kill switches in 2 separate places . If a thief finds one , he will usually try to start it but it wont start until he finds the other one ( and they seldom will find both ) Usually by then the battery is dead .
im in jersey and confirm this process
I just pull the fuel pump relay. Yeah I gotta pop the hood every time but it’s flawless
@@itsclobberingtime631 I like my crown Vic, it has a fuel pump shutoff switch easily accessible in the trunk. I just pull the harness connector for it when I'm parking in sketchy areas
ITS CLOBBERING TIME!!!!!!!!!!! I started doing that but I realized that there were other relays that were exactly the same as the fuel pump one, so the thief would just put one of those in there and drive away

Favorite rebuilds were Model A Fords. Next favorites were 1960's vintage Detroit iron. But to the point. With all of the changes necessary to prevent auto theft via the key/ignition lock system of theft deterrence it sure shows how society has devolved since we were kids. Health problems keep me from most physical activities now, but car activities was a hell of a ride while it lasted for me, and I enjoy your show, and similar shows immensely.

Cars with keyless entry, where the doors car be unlocked by touching a small area on the door handle when the remote is in close proximity of the car, for example in your pocket, thieves have been scanning these signals from outside owner's front door as the remote are mostly kept close to the entrance.
Older cars without this keyless entry feature, they look through your letter box at night and use a long pole with hook to steal the keys before making off with your car.
Keep your car keys well away from your front door.

Car alarms are pretty much worthless, I hear them going off every time I go shopping and people ignore them, even if someone is trying to get into a car with the alarm going off, they still ignore it as they have no way to know if it's the owner trying to get in and turn it off, or a thieve.

Id not only convert my old Mustang to a stickshift but also consider installing hoodlocks and a fuel cutoff valve
Won't work here in the uk lol
My 1990 F250 has a manual transmission, no power steering and no glow plug circuit so you have to start it with gasoline. Never lock the doors, the seat is collapsed with exposed springs and the steering wheel pops out. No wonder no one has even tried to steal it.
A Team it’s a Ford. It broke 3 blocks away. Fords reliability is literally a joke in the automotive world.
@@nickcaesar7650 chevy and ford are both trash and dodge cant build a reliable daily so all the domestic car companies are bad dont just stop at ford.
1:57 "Even thieves don't want that" cracked me up =))))
That is a lot of good info Thanks!
My friend and his brother both had their civics stolen , this story really brings me back. We all live in pa and they found my friends car in North Carolina and they never found his brothers car
Watching Scotty as I sit here in my Honda Civic.
Here in Austin Texas Hondas are stolen all the time because you can swap the parts/engines on so many different models. It's mostly modified cars though not stock. They always end up stripped on bricks in San Antonio. Most of the early Civics have Universal keys too.
Mine never got stolen because I had the H22a engine that was produced in the Prelude, and that engine didn't fit in all of the other Civics without expensive engine mounts. So mine never got messed with.
We had a 2003 Civic that we bought in 2008. The insurance was crazy for a car of its age and value, and yes, it was down to it being a thief target, even back then.
Common with transponder keys is to simply bring along a key with transponder and an ECU for the key, then it takes a few seconds to pull the plug on the ECU, plug in the one you brought, place key next to the jimmied lock cylinder and start it and drive away. 60 seconds to do this, just like in the movies.
Oh no, I drive a Civic.
At least it's a manual.
That's like saying "Mac computers don't get viruses"

@@wolfpackflt670 True. Any car thief worth his salt (what an odd thing to say) would know how to drive a stick.
Sonic6293, unfortunately the one with the manual are the one that gets stolen most
@@Sonic6293 Salt is useful car thieves are less than useless.
This channel is the best car channel on youtube.
Love this guys energy
5:30 All modern car remotes should use "Rolling code" encryption, so each time the button is pressed, a different code is sent (based on a pseudo random number table), so for any modern remote, a thief cannot "capture" and "replay the same signal that locked the vehicle to unlock it. As for the keyless fobs, they are almost always broadcasting , but the signal is not very strong, thieves can use a signal amplifier or relay to trick the vehicle into "thinking" the fob is closer than it is, to enter and start the vehicle, but they must be close enough to the actual fob to pickup its signal. On some vehicles (GM), the Immobilizer can be bypassed by swapping the PCM for one that has the security disabled, theoretically this can be done with any vehicle if enough modules are swapped, just depends on how much they want to swap.
they jam the signal when you send it
and they have a receiver that spots the KEY's signal and records it (alongisde the spam that is the jamming)
the spam from the jamming is filtered
the user will just think it did not work in the first time
you have a code that works now
english isn't my first language ...but form what i understand ..that's how the motherfuckers do it ..
i'd just hang them
With all due respect, sir... it does sound like you have, uh, personal experience.
I own VIII civic sedan and I love it , it’s the most reliable car just like Scotty’s toyola !!!
Thank you Scotty! I'm now locking it manually.
Great and very enjoyable 😁👍
As someone in the cybersecurity industry, this was one of the most useful videos he's got. He speaks the truth (basic stuff but the truth regardless)
What do you think about kill switches? I knew someone who used to touch two parts of his car otherwise the car wouldn't start.
I luv this show, Scotty has taught me alot on how 2 b a better consumer!!!😀😀
Scotty that's great information thank you
I suspect another reason the Honda Civic is the most commonly stolen car is because of it's reputation in the tuner world. Civics are some of the most commonly modified imports, so souped-up Civics draw more attention to themselves.
Nah bro they run forever thieves know this I get pulled over all the time in my stock civic for bs reasons and they always ask whose car is this?
@@Guitarsnspraycans see, even cops ask you if this is your car since it's the most stolen vehicle
@@zhoutorres2677 plus I look like I steal cars
@@Guitarsnspraycans no wonder why
@Greg Myers yeah I'm just mexican, my mask doesnt come off
Lol I like how he's teaching RUclips the theft method for each security measure
Great tutoring video!
Scotty always #1 , Thank you
I would imagine some of those accidents are because some thieves are running from the cops. Running into things.
Civic is also the most popular car in North America so it only makes sense for it to be in the spotlight
If popularity is measured based on the number of cars sold over the last 15 years, then that goes to the Camry which has been the nest selling car every single year almost the last 2 decades
So true Scotty! My friend bought a brand new Honda Civic SI back in 1999 and within 2 weeks of owning it someone stole it. And the other time my brother in law who had a older model Audi S4 and left his car unlocked at the mall and it got stolen. Thanks for the tips on watching out for people trying to steal your keyless push start car. It’s crazy that we have to worry about things like that
Love your videos!
For every regular car there’s like 3 Honda civics
W
IG: Bojittenscarti Does that mean Honda Civic needs more fiber in its diet ( if it’s not regular)?
I had a 2000 blue civic si for 10 years. Electron blue metallic pearl I think was the name of the factory color. I guess I got lucky. Never stolen. I currently have 2 exotic cars but from time to time I still think about that SI. Its my favorite car I ever owned. Best of all worlds. Easy to fix. Cheap to fix. Great on gas as long as you weren't on VTEC. And it was quick. Smoked mustangs no problem and it wasn't even heavily modified. I did my SI very clean, not riced out with a fart can. I miss it.
I had the same one 2000 Civic si and yes it is electron blue pearl. Unfortunately mine did get stolen with only 30k about a year and half after getting off the showroom floor. 6 months before it was stolen someone broke into it and stole over 10 grand worth of stereo equipment out of it. Definitely was one of my favorite cars and always wish I had it back!
Now I know why my car insurance went up when I bought a 2015 civic si coupe!! I didn't know this until I watched this video, thanks Scottie.I love my Si, awesome car...
Great video!!!
