I like the sun gleam off the windshield at 4:08 and the wheelie 4:28 was very cool especially since it was a recovery. You have to get the shelf Queen dirty at least once that's the rules. I was debating buying one and now after seeing your video I will pull the trigger. Good music, good driving, and proper modeling make for a three thumbs up video.
thanks buddy! i really appreciate the feedback especially positive ones! i love my sand scorcher, not that im using it much, but when i look at in in my display cabinet, it gives me a big smile :-) i may take it out soon! after all it is summer!
I bought a Scorcher 2010 version just after I viewed and posted on your video, it will be here tomorrow. I am looking forward to building the model but only after I complete my Tamiya trf801x truggy. I think the Scorcher will be a nice relaxing driver for my daughter and I to toy with on the beach or even in between charging her bash-em-up cars. Thanks again for the video that inspired my purchase.
This is the nicest scorcher I have seen Matthew . I had a monster beetle 30 yrs ago , but painted mine in desert storm "Chocolate Chip" camo . Wales UK (Pembs )
Thanks fred, I wish I was more daring and go for something different to the box art but I love replicating the original design. Love pembrokeshire, always down that way especially st David's and all the beaches
Hi there ! Great Car ! Great paint job ! Well Build ! Do you have problems with intruding sand due to the modifications on the Engine Cover ?Do you have a heat problem with ESC in the RC Box ?Greetings from Germany !
Thanks for the questions! No I don't have problems with sand or heat, I ensured that the cover was sealed using clear mastic. I always give it a clean after a day on the beach :-) Cars looking a bit different now, I'll have to do a video
rcchannel.com sell them for £35 but postage to uk is a bit steep at £18 they are also available on ebay for £30 plus £5 postage i ordered mine off ebay :-)
interesting using that nimh with brushless,it looks almost tame compared to your 3s endevours :-p i think therein lies your answer, no need to go back to stock motor, use 9t brushless with nimh...possbily?
have you got any pics up on a forum of your brushless set up? iv got my sand scorcher part built but not having much luck fitting the brushless motor, esc and battery. one last question. is it a nicad battery you are using? whats your running time like?
hi there have been watching your vids with interest as i am putting the finishing touches to my sand scorcher(got stadium blitzer, fast attac k vehicle,xr311 and mini cooper) have already ordered the ali front bumper to replace the monstrosity that that tamiya supply the other problem i have like yourself is the dampers they are shit i notice you have replaced the rear dampers on yours in another video may i ask what with and where you got them please i looked at the rcchannel replacement dampers but fucked if i will pay £45 for them ps that losi looks awesome
Andy Roberts your right about the Rc channel they are expensive, I replaced the oil in the front and put pen springs in and seem to do the job, I then used Tamiya tto1 suspension for the rear. I don't take it out anymore as it's a shelf queen with all original motor and springs :-)
this is more a thing of beauty, than something to use on a regular basis, it really depends on what you want it for? it looks great in my display cabinet, but like an old car, you got to look after it and maintain it regular. its your call buddy? I love mine :-)
check my other uploads for fitting a brushless. I was using a NIMH humpback. but i also use a 3cell lipo which has way too much power, but its fun! oh and its a 9 turn your watching. but if there is any questions don't hesitate to ask!
RcWebbo I had a Mk 1 back in 1980 and although the first run was a LOT slower, I remember shedding both mirror and snapping the exhaust. At 15-years-old, I was mortified.
I see you change the front shock and spring on it do you still have this vehicle you ever thought of getting the other three vehicles on this chassis specially the one with the mono shock in the rear no shelf queens please what a waste of money in my eyes and opinion.
Normally when you go to the beach you hear the wind and the waves. When you bring a car like that you hear. How fast does it go? Is that nitro? How much did it cost? Did you buy it like that? Where can I get one. Can I try it. How far can it go.Are you going to be hear tomorrow too? Do you come hear all the time. Then a second person comes along and asks the same questions. Answers, 120mph, Not nitro ..atomic,...,$2,000, .. I built it but Jesus sold me the motor, ... You can get one in Venezuela but you'll need a passport, NO!,.. I can go all the way down the beach like 20 ft, ... No I will be hanging myself tomorrow, ... I used to.
+cutwagman Hi, i am italian from Trieste, even here in Italy the questions are the same... when i run my scalers they always ask... How fast does it go? Is it nitro? LOL! Fast a scaler? It MUST be slow like a fuckin' turtle! And it's electric...never heard of a nitro scaler! But people out of this hobby i think it's normal for they making these stupid questions, even if sound really strange to us! :D
RcWebbo I like the music! Bit fast that thing :D I've just relived my childhood and over 5 months bought a Grasshopper, Hornet, Wild one and a Frog. Pondering getting this scorcher next :)
Niall Allen you will not regret it! it was my favorite build, its a piece of art and if you decide not to use it, it looks great on a shelf! i have my one stored in a display cabinet. one word of advice. use the standard motor dont go brushless!
Yeah, I never bother with brushless. So many videos and reports of tyres being stripped in minutes and cars being written off! I'm halfway through building it at the moment. A couple of things though, the suspension seems rather awkward and the plastic inserts are loose (the oval ones you connect the steering rods to), yet I can't see a mention of them being screwed down/in, but they must be (assuming this is later in the build) and the sealed unit the servos/receiver sit in, seems odd. Does it really just sit on the two rubber prongs? Seems to me it'll just wobble about, causing a lot of vibration issues! Unless there's something further down the line that secures the whole thing properly. Still, halfway through so chances are I have a lot more bits to attach!
A lovely blend of classic tamiya and modern technology. Even better that you filmed this on the beach. Thanks for uploading.
thanks david.
I simply cannot imagine the Tamiya Brand without the Sand Scorcher, This is like having a Cult classic.
100%

@@RcWebbo Hi Matt , we live near Simpsons cross - so you pass by on the way to St Davids !
Awesome! I had one of these over 35 years ago, used to love Tamiya stuff
awesome brings back memories of 1984, though mine never quite 'scorched' the sand like this :-)
do you still have it?
Loved watching this Mathew, almost want to get one of these myself.....almost lol
Sand was flying!! Fun video to watch.
Thankyou:-)
the wheelies in the sand was really cool, but now im going to have to get one,,, see what you did...lol

Nice Scorcher! I managed to find a factory painted XB body for mine and ran it up and down the driveway that was it haha. I also have a basher body.
Tom Bucci Jr. , you took it out, that's the main thing lol
I was going to mark you down for driving on the sand, but how can I with such a cool video !!
:-)

Cars looking a bit different now, I'll have to do a video
I think you need the shovel paddles to go through that deep sand.
Very nice, well done video bud. What are you running for motor and esc? Take care bud.
Hi RCWebo, your scorcher looks great. just gone one myself to do. Where did you get that front bumper bar? thanks.
ebay, but there hard to find, i don't think the guy sells them now, just search online, i am sure you will find one
rcchannel.com sell them for £35 but postage to uk is a bit steep at £18
they are also available on ebay for £30 plus £5 postage
i ordered mine off ebay :-)
loving that welsh accent . oh and of course the cars nice too !!
HA! glad you like the accent! lol
love my sand scorcher :-)
RcWebbo I jus got me a frog and was wondering what etc motor combo ubgot in this??
it s a 9 turn brushless motor but its too much power, the stock 540 motor is more than enough
evssv it s a 9 turn brushless motor but its too much power, the stock 540 motor is more than enough
RcWebbo
Great video a have a vintage rough rider just wish I could keep it in its wheels and not the roof . Love your rear shocks were did you get them
They were tamiya tto2 shocks bought them many years ago now lol
I think Ebay
interesting using that nimh with brushless,it looks almost tame compared to your 3s endevours :-p i think therein lies your answer, no need to go back to stock motor, use 9t brushless with nimh...possbily?
oh and the running time for the 4500NIMH is about 45 mins with the 3cell 2.2 lipo lasting about 30 mins
have you got any pics up on a forum of your brushless set up? iv got my sand scorcher part built but not having much luck fitting the brushless motor, esc and battery.
one last question. is it a nicad battery you are using? whats your running time like?
I just bought the XV-01t Asterion and am looking to hop it up with a brushless motor, any reccomendations?
You're sand scorcher is so badass!!!
Does the sand ruin any parts at all?
thank you! no chassis is made from aluminum so it doesn't rust, but i give it a brush down after a run just to keep it clean
My God!!! Good music in a rc car video!!!! Rare....
hi there
have been watching your vids with interest as i am putting the finishing touches to my sand scorcher(got stadium blitzer, fast attac

I hope you're using rubber sealed bearings
what motor did you use? This is gonna be my first kit. Gotta have brushless :)
this was a 9 turn which has too much power, i would advise a 10 turn.
thanks for your question
Mine's got a 5.5t 6600kw! Speed and power is never to good!
AikarambaGaming
9 t, 5.5? thats totaly crazy lol
RcWebbo 5.5 is suicide lol
Looks cool but cannot afford a decent one so will just get s bug shell for Traxxas Slash till then
this is more a thing of beauty, than something to use on a regular basis, it really depends on what you want it for?

nice weelie ! :)
cheers buddy!
Good rig... maybe some paddles will fit
thankyou
your right about it being tame but don't you think its a waste of a 9t brushless combo?
lol @ 4:20.....did that have double meaning? lol.
Much damage to the shell after that run?
the shell cleaned up nice, but i snapped the exhaust :-(
RcWebbo I had a Mk 1 back in 1980 and although the first run was a LOT slower, I remember shedding both mirror and snapping the exhaust. At 15-years-old, I was mortified.
Well the self queen is no longer a queen now
I see you change the front shock and spring on it do you still have this vehicle you ever thought of getting the other three vehicles on this chassis specially the one with the mono shock in the rear no shelf queens please what a waste of money in my eyes and opinion.
Goddamnit! Can you just put the body on the fuckin car and run it!?
Brooke Turner patience fella.
RcWebbo Sorry, I was so dying to see that beauty run! LMAO
Brooke Turner lol you came across aggressive, but it's all good lmao
Hope you enjoyed:-)

Rear end looks too bouncy.
hey bigduke, your right, having issues with the rear and front trying different setups but when its on the damp sand its fantastic fun!
سRcWebbo
such a nice car, too bad it handles like crap. Tamiya should have put regular tires on it and changed the name to street Scorcher.
Put a ball differential in it and they handle amazing.
turn off the music please
there is a volume bar, problem solved!
RcWebbo
I like the music! Bit fast that thing :D I've just relived my childhood and over 5 months bought a Grasshopper, Hornet, Wild one and a Frog. Pondering getting this scorcher next :)

Ahem, I buckled and bought it about 10 minutes later. Arrives tomorrow so that's my weekend sorted :D
