I had one in to the 80's I put bearings in the transmission instead of brass bushing, it was a killer RC, I was racing with Team Associated RC and had no problem in that time. Superb quality build Tamiya.

Very cool! Love the Tamiya's. The sand scorcher was on my wish list for forever and love that I have one now.

It's a lot of fun but a little tricky to handle.

Excellent build, great sand video, for sure that sand was rough for that lil buggy lol,

You'd think a car with the word 'sand' in it, would be great in the sand, but nope. I think it's intentions were for hard packed sand.

@@RCNuts true. Also… it was made 3 decades ago… i think its awesome for a scale model to do what it does 30 years ago 👌

    I owned a Rough Rider in 1980 ( I was eleven)
I love this chassis, but it's so expensive now

Was a bit more than I wanted to spend too. But it was worth it. Love the Rough Rider too.

You didn't show any shots of the electronic box completed, but it looks like you weren't able to close it with where you placed the ESC. Maybe you can try reconfiguring it so you can close it & package it with a smaller battery to cut down on the weight.

It sure is a heavy rig for its size. I did not get the lid on it. I felt like it would over heat if it was enclosed like that.

The ESC will thermal shutdown if it gets too hot. 2 18650s will fit perfect into the foam battery holder Tamiya includes. Good way to cut down on weight as they're super light! I'm using 1/16 traxxas lipos in mine. I can't believe RCs use to be so dense! I agree though, it was definitely too heavy for that location. I think we'd all love to see more footage of this rig!
