- In this video, I react to Armand Hammer's new album We Buy Diabetic Test Strips. This album REALLY confused me y'all. In a good way, though. What are your thoughts on the album so far? Let's talk about it in the comments!
Also: this was filmed as a quick reaction, the editing / production is a lil rough - apologies!! Also also, I already listened to both of the singles off the album so they're not in this reaction - love them both tho!

Crazy because the project's that dont hit on first listen ends up becoming my favourite albums of the year 😂 this has to be one of them, the sound is so interesting. Armand Hammer honestly never disappoints. This and that Billy woods project with kenny, Hits so different esp when you really dive into the subject matter
honestly yeah, I'm finding that this album is really growing on me. unsurprised but I was a little worried in the beginning hahah
Name dropping im thinking of ending things in the first 10 secs of the video what a great movie
yes sir!!
this is the best first listen i’ve ever had on an armand hammer project. truly the most interesting production on a rap album i’ve heard in the past four years + the lyrics hit so deeply for me. i hope this underground rap sphere they move around in starts to sound more like this over time im getting tired of the old sample chops with light drums
as much as I love a good sample loop, I gotta agree. need more variation in the song structure!! very glad this album has that. I can say that for sure
hey bro your channel is amazing keep it up please
thank you!!
no problem as a fellow writer im a big fan
i love the earl sweatshirt videos
thank you!! they're super fun to make and will hopefully make more in the future@@crimson6323
a fellow writer!! I'm starting a radio series based solely on writing that will also be uploaded to this channel so stay tuned - definitely got some more content coming out thats solely focused on the writing process :)@@crimson6323
I feel you, album didn't connect as strongly as some of their other work and I couldn't say why exactly. I do really enjoy the beats and sonics of this album though, the live instrumentation and very experimental sound design makes a sick soundscape.
yes! the soundscape is the first thing I think about when I'm thinking about this album. its a super cool achievement even if it doesn't always hit the mark perfectly. I think maybe the disconnect has something to do with the structure of the project, to me its a little more disorganized than other AH albums. however, its already starting to grow on me hahah
This album is fantastic, def top 3 of the year so far
I think I've got to agree now that I've had more time to sit on it. its def up there as an AOTY contender
@@unknownreviews7259 yeah, this album along with Voir Dire and Maps, & then you pray for me might make top 3 though, can’t wait for it to drop
i dont know if this helps: i surrender to listen, following the lyrics/spelling/lines and catching whatever i do on each listen. not trying to understand, letting it happen through osmosis
sitting in the atmosphere(s), grounded in the greater/overarching themes. instrumental or otherwise
@@abercrombiebardo I appreciate this and honestly tend to do this same - which is why I don’t react very much because normally I don’t get or try to get things on first listen. So I typically don’t have too too much to say immediately. I’m normally way more locked into production from jump
this shit was clicking off first listen for me, its seemingly a soundscape of brooklyn and goes into feeling trapped in poverty despite their success
okay that trapped feeling makes total sense - definitely going to listen with this context now, thank you!! honestly, as I was editing it was starting to mesh more. probably will feel better about it once I film my final thoughts / in depth review
I clicked with the existentialism and feelings of poverty and uncertain financial futures but I still felt I might be missing something else they are doing with it. I felt that way with Shrines though until it finally clicked for me so I think this will be similar.
@@unknownreviews7259 the other thing ive come to notice is in terms of the overall sound of the album the theme of technology and future seems to be a big part especially considering the three songs named after phones (landlines, siri, i keep a mirror in my pocket). It seems to bounce between that future sound and then that more warm live sound
