My family and I made the first of our six visits to Niagara Falls in August 1963, eleven years after NIAGARA was filmed (they made the movie in mid-1952). Everything there looked exactly the same in person. The souvenir shop which you see here was unchanged. Watching this movie gave me goosebumps. I remember being fascinated with the postcards, for example. The postcards, the china on display, even the elevator and doors were unchanged. That is just a for instance of what I saw when I was five years old. Amazing.

I don't even remember what his name is but do remember he had the ability to ruin a good to great movie in every scene he appeared in.

There is so something special about Marilyn Monroe! She doesn't have to flaunt her sexuality, it is just there; in her eyes, the way she looks and her walk. She had a natural beauty and natural instincts of what she needed to do on screen to catch your eye and follow her to the extent that her leading men even weren't there. I could watch her movies all day and never get tired of seeing her conquer every one in the place. Beauty thy name was Marilyn, Venus incarnate. It was too bad that her personal life was such mess and her mental health was in chaos, so much so that she was miserable. Nonetheless it didn't affect her big screen presence. RIP Marilyn.
Marilyn wasn't always miserable. She had great sadness but also great joy. She accomplished a lot and was very happy in many moments of life. I think ppl forget that sometimes. If she wouldn't have miscarried so many times and had a child with Arthur Miller I believe her life would've gone in a very positive direction . That's what is sad.
She was in constant pain in her later years, due to several botched, illegal abortions. This is why she was taking drugs. Remember, she was before legal abortion and before birth control too.
That's so true. Directors didn't give her an opportunity of trying interesting movies. Niagara, River of no Return and The Misfits were the exceptions. The others were not at her level. Not only these men were ignorant and fools, and treated her like a commodity, but also Marilyn lost her self respect, seeing herself from those men's eyes. The Misfits show us her suffering. From then on she fell inside her drinking, sad seeing her making fool of herself while singing "Happy Birthday" to Kennedy. Poetic end with DiMaggio, with whom she could have felt safe, making all the arrangements for her funeral. A man is always a man. The others are just shadows of a man.

She just conveyed the entire narrative of that scene with her expressions, she was a good actress and not given the credit she deserved for her talent in her lifetime.
So Radiant and Stunning, Marilyn Monroe was also a very good actress who could emote and talk with her eyes, her gestures, her hips even. Notice she didn't utter one word, and her performance spoke Volumes! When she's on screen, all eyes are on her, she is the center of everything, that's Star Quality, Star Presence and Star Power. There will never be another like her... :-)
I miss the quiet of movies in this era. Notice that if this was filmed today that gift shop would have music playing in the background, lots of added sound effects, back ground "chatter" just busy to be busy. It gets to be detracting where in a classic like this you get to focus on the acting. Feels more like live theater than over produced movies of today. 🎉

The mid 1950s movies depicted a change in the improved economy. We now see women dressed to the nines in feminine girly dresses in the movies. (See the movie "Rear Window" where James Stewart states to Grace Kelly, who is in a gorgeous full skirted dress, "where are you going to wear that dress? it's not practical" Women viewed these fashionable frilly clothes as a cause for celebration from the previous economic hardships.
Is this the Canadian Side of Niagara Falls? The Building "Gift Shop" with all that beautiful stone looks like what they used to call "Table Rock House" where the Entrance to the Tunnels leading out to below The Canadian Horseshoe Falls exists. Looks like a beautiful movie! I am a Canadian in my fifties and live within ninety minutes drive of Niagara Falls, Ontario but have only visited a dozen times in my life. Mostly when my Late Gran and other relatives visited from the UK! Always had such amazingly, memorable visits there!
