Got any advice on how to find people to jam with? I'm a mid 40's bass player with a demanding family life so music comes 2nd but I'd like to find a group like me who is flexible and just wants to play for fun.

That's a great question. I hear you, family first, but you have to have some fun too. I would honestly just start putting feelers out with your friends. You would be surprised at how many people know other musicians or can at least connect you. You should also try and find some shows where it's like a solo acoustic player or acoustic shows and talk to those musicians too. Way easier to chat with them and more chill when you are trying to strike up a conversation.
If you hit coffee shops tell the baristas that you are looking for someone to start jamming with and they seem to know everybody in town. Maybe they even have a board you can put your information up on to find someone. Community centers are great for finding people too. Like the local YMCA or something. The couple I jam with lived in my neighborhood, but the funny part is, they first me when I was playing a block party in our neighborhood last 4th of July. We started chatting and the rest is history.
Good luck and let me know how it goes. Super rad to have a group of friends to jam with. And...you bass players are hard to find, so you will be in high demand. haha. Keep going and good luck!
