You'd think Iracing would market this feature more because it's quite literally game changing This is such a good change for everyone. Casual/time-restricted players can learn the hard parts of a circuit much faster (so more actual racing time) and serious/pro players can completely fine tune their setups. Hell I just learned enough of VIR in like 20 minutes to podium in my split where previously that would've taken me more than an hour
I just now saw this and this is an amazing feature. It took me two months of daily practice to learn nordschliefe because it is such a massive track and after I totaled my car getting back around took forever. It was such a process lol.
Another important bit is also being able to do a couple of laps to get tyre temps to race pace, then set your points once they are warmed. Every time you restart that section, tyres are the right temp straight away.
The only issue is fuel. Apparently fuel values don't return to where they were when you set your point so if you do this over time, you're naturally going to get faster due to lower fuel. I assume it's a bug.
@@marcellomaio Looks like they fixed it in today's downtime. It's in the patch notes. Fuel values were not returning to where they were when you set your mark, but it's all fixed now.
It's also just useful for not having to come to a complete stop and reset to pits with cold tires, instantly back on a flying lap with warm tires has been what I have used it for most so far. Pit entry practice is going to be easy now. I would think it will be really useful for practicing on old tires, being able to reset back to old tires and not having to start over every time.
This has absolutely changed my practice time for the better. I would spend 2-3 hours each Tuesday to learn the new track for my series. Yesterday, I cut that time in half. It’s made it so much fun and frankly it’s how I learned to learn tracks when I race IRL. You learn in segments, not the whole track at a time. Big props to Iracing for making this so user friendly and fully baked.
Yeeeeeeesssss!! I’ve wanted something like this for ages. It used to be frustrating having to run a whole lap and try to remember exactly what you did last time thru that same section. Thanks for the clear explanation Dave. 👍👍
Oh wow! This was an option in TOCA 2! You couldn't do the deltas but it allowed you to constantly repeat a difficult corner. It's an absolute game-changer! I remember a long while back, someone started a thread in the iRacing forums, asking users what feature they'd like to see added to the Sim and I described this very option only to be told that something like that would never come to iRacing! Great video, thank you!
Omg! I've been waiting for this forever. I'm so happy I can try hard tracks with way less time. This is even better with fixed series as far as convenience and fairness goes. There was something immersive about having to carefully approach the limit when practicing as to not wreck like in real life but this is far more practical.
You’ll get a lot of iracing haters not liking it because. All F1 teams have this feature. Unless you’re a pro and have all the time, unlike “normal “ people who work this helps get more in in less time
Some helpful info also from the release notes: Holding down the Active Reset Run control will apply the Saved Start Point, but then pause the Simulator until you release it, allowing you to adjust your control inputs if desired.
FINALLY. I have been thinking about this every time I practice, there is always that one corner you mess up on and you have to do a full lap to practice, this is going to be so useful
I've been asking around for years if real F1 sims had this feature. As a guitar teacher, knowing you must focus on specific things repetitively is really the only way to get good. Sheer repetition pays off. This will change racing.
This will help me get back into racing, as I've been too time poor this year to put in the practice that will give me the confidence I got used to when I did have more time. It will really be a huge help.
I’ve wanted this in ACC for years! It certainly is a game changer and may actually mean that iRacing becomes my number 1 sim. Thanks Dave for your excellent vid. Cheers.
ive been wanting active reset ever since the days of EA skate games allowing to set markers anywhere you want to session. Thought its perfect for racing games !
I didn't know about this tool until yesterday. 20 minutes of practice I was already doing a sequence of 2 turns 0.5 seconds faster with the W13, which I just started racing with.
OMG iv been wanting this for years now. Iv always struggled with bus stops and chicanes and now i can just practice it with out having to do a 2min lap every time.
You should change the title to something like 'Iracing Active Reset Tutorial' so if somebody looks it up in 6 months they find your video, it is very well explained :). For example LTT does this as well, the first 1/2 week it is more catch your attention title and after that they change the title to make sure at least the product name and type is mentioned of the product they are looking at.
This is amazing. I was just thinking about this type of feature in ACC while working on Misano turn 1 - 2 - 3 for the LFM license test. Well done to iRacing.
I need this so much in ACC! This is the one thing I miss so much in all sims, wasting your time doing an entire lap over and over when you know you are slow on one turn in particular.
This tool is awesome, the custom sector markers I’d wish in for a long time. Resetting is super helpful as I was always annoyed by the fact that I had to do the whole lap again.
I race the Mazda a bunch and this week is a new for me venue of Virginia. The 16 -17 combination is the hardest of all and this will be used before we return there again.
Sometimes, but not always, when you set the "Active Reset Save Start Point" it will also drop a custom sector start point, then where you press the "Active Reset Run" the first time to jump back the end point of the custom sector will be placed. I'm not sure why it's not more consistent with automatically setting up that custom sector, but it's great when it works. And for when it doesn't, there's always the manual custom sector start/end point buttons!
@Dave Cam - thank you for another great video. Love your channels and apprecate all the hard work you put in for our entertainment. It's also impressive that Jules manages to do so well in her races with all the groceries in the boot surviving. 🙂 Just a tip for others when trying this.. make sure your tyres are warmed up before setting your start point. I just spent ages wondering why I couldn't get around Bathurst turn 2 at normal race speed, then realised I had set the start point on my first lap with cold tyres. doh.
Hey Dave, also a huge fan of this feature. Not sure if you saw, but the active reset is supposed to set the sector start for you, but before the second patch, if you were over a certain speed it wasn't working. Now it accounts for speed and should put the sector start just a bit after your reset. You can still move it on your own obviously.
I suggested this very feature back in 2011. I got the usual haters and naysayers because it was "not real-life" . Lol. I am so glad to see it has finally made it. I might start racing again. Such a useful feature
In other words cheating, and so people without a job will do this all day, until there’s nothing to be gained. Farmers already did this, adding active reset will increase it 10 fold. You think your gonna beat a farmer who uses active reset for 3-4 hours a day? Good luck
Not knowing this would be added, I was thinking of something like that last week, remembering licence in gran turismo where you can practice a section of a lap. This is even better!!
People always called the Rewind tool on Forza as stupid and that we should turn it off but I always found it a great tool for practicing that difficult corner. This has the same vibe
That looks really useful Dave and you did a great job of explaining how it works. I can see me making use of that feature myself when doing league practice. After all I can't let Julie beat me again next season. 😉 The only track you probably wouldn't need it on is Knockhill as it is probably just as quick to go round again.
That really is rather brilliant! Just imagine how much time and money it would save if you could do this in real life. I've been seriously thinking about starting an Iracing subscription recently. Watching yours and other great simracing YT channels has really helped me gather the information I need to make my decision, as if I do go in, I'll go in with the two year deal they have atm as it works out cheapest. Im getting closer to taking the plunge1 Thanks for this!
perfect for setting up at the start of a long "any" track (nordschleife) if you mess up the lap half way through, just hit the reset button and you can instant restart your hotlap without doing the full lap around the track
Two things I want to ask. 1. The delta can only compare with custom sector best in that particular session? Not the best sector in your driving history(like best lap or best sector) nor others lap? 2. Vrs and motec telemetry analyzer can only recognize completed lap, so, you can not analyze those incompleted lap?
What’s your opinion on the new BOP and slide racing like new tire and damage model for GT3‘s? I feel that for example the 911 GT3 R is really bad now and the new BMW and Toyota feels great. For me we are going backwards with GT3‘s with no updated content and a real problem regarding weight transfer st least for the Porsche. You cannot catch it, the rear just breaks loose again. As for the damage i don’t see any improvement regarding collisions: you can‘t still brake your steering wheel at 20 km/h while do a massive crash and get on with it.
Bad ass feature. I could have used it so many times learning the cars and the tracks. I'll be using it for the Dalara that I just started racing. The times are so close that this will most deffinetly help with finding that perfict line. Going to have to buy another switch for the wheel cuz it's foing to get worn out, 🤣
if it now also would display/save the speed at the custom sector entry and exit that would give one more data point to compare, e.g. if you nailed the exit in one run and got higher speed out of a corner
This is going to help me immensely for bathurst 1000. I wonder if you can download others sectors so you can see where they are faster, some of the lap times I've seen are unreal
Thanks for doing this. Any chance you'd do a video on your button mapping for iRacing? Pretty sure I don't have enough buttons for all of this! Thanks!
Not just to be contrary, but whilst I understand all the love for this that is clearly being expressed in the comments, something in my head is telling me I don’t ever want to use this feature. Is this finally the proof I’ve always needed, to confirm my madness?
You'd think Iracing would market this feature more because it's quite literally game changing
