Thanks so much for your videos, and for explaining everything so nicely. I really like the fact that you go through your thought process and why you keep and sell some other pedals like the NIghtsky or Slöer etc... super useful and informative. I really like your channel because you focus on how these pedals work with synths as opposed to most demos with guitars. So thanks once again! 🙏 I also wanted to say that I have the exact same feeling regarding the Mercury X. I have bought it together with a Nightsky to compare, and although it sounded amazing and had all of these features I still preferred the Nightsky in the end. There is definitely some special sauce that Strymon put into their pedals. Really looking forward for the NIghtsky vs Big Sky MX video 😊
Wow!...What a combo. The trigon is on my list and the MX made it sound out of this world. That first patch, sounded like a plucked triangle, sounded like it had sawtooth tails once you put the Reverb on. Great demo as always❤ BTW you should do a video with a cheap casio synth if you get the chance.
Yea, it looks great. I wonder what they could do to the Timeline to MXify it? A few analog preamps? I hope this inspires more convolution reverb pedals to come out.
Please do a mixing video. Ill keep reminding. When you do this content your live mixes sound so clear and fx stand out so well. Audio is nice clean and clear. Please teach me lol
Almost picked up a Strymon BigSky 2nd hand from Reverb in February but came across a super deal on a mint Mercury 7. I bought it specifically for synth (Modal Cobalt 8) and quite like it. I've yet to plug a guitar into it. I'm not opposed to the BigSky as it was my first choice but having a good time with the Mercury 7 and am not in a hurry to trade out ....just yet. 😊 BigSky has a beautiful sound and is a fantastic Reverb pedal!
I have the original BS and I can't seem to stop messing with the settings to make it sound best for synths without overwhelming them. In your opinion what would be the most optimal settings on Cloud algo to make synth sit well with it? Would putting it on AUX buss in the mixer make it really sound better? I have noticed that you mentioned cutting the frequencies on long decay.
The desktop Trigon, oh wow, I had no idea that came out. Killer sound, I heard a key'd Trigon-6 locally, loved it. But Pro-3 is the only Sequential synth that is up my alley, it seems to me.
Interesting, I love OG but let's see how much this one differs. I feel that longer decays are a bit brighter, but that might be subjective. Also love the cloud above all, IDK if you noodle with modular, there are a few emulations of clouds for FX aid, and modulating parameters really push the reverb further. Interesting you didnt like Meris, but as you say, it is a different beast. For example, it is probably the best all around reverb out there but Mood and Strymon, even Eventide BH can do stuff Meris seems to be too conservative for.
My issue with these "space/shimmer" reverb pedals is they are great for jamming and maybe initial composition phase but trying to get them to work in a mix... forget it. I can't do it - I don't even want to try and its why I use a PRO/studio to do my mixing.
For these effects to work, you really need to leave enough space in the mix to let them ring out. Certain genres of music lend themselves to it more than others. It may not be your cup of tea, and that’s okay.
13:25 All I know of in single pedal format is poly verbs, tasty chips integral does dual reverb IR's, and then you have beebo as well and of course old school logidy epsi. So now bigsky mx and tasty chips is the only two I know of that can do dual convolution reverbs. Also 27:12 I love H90 reverbs and I have 3 H90's haha. Definitely different flavor and bigsky mx or ventris or mercury x can't do some things the H90 reverbs can do, so it's cool to have them all haha (I do lol).
Hey yuki one question, do you notice the BS MX to have a much wider stereo field and more dynamic than the mercury x. I am having a hell of a time getting wide stereo with the mercury. From your videos i noticed the same thing with your mercury demos and hearing the bigsky is so lush and wide.
I did notice for sure now that you pointed it out ! I knew the stereo field felt different but now going back, yes it is way wider on the Mx. I could never get the stereo image to play nicely on the merc or the lvx. The lvx and polymoon always had a really strange to pan on the voices as well which had not the most pleasant stereo image. I felt it always favorite the left channel.
Exactly! I am about where you are at with selling the merc x and sucking it up on the high price tag of the MX. hell my cheap eventide blackhole and valhalla reverb plugins are crazily lush and wide compared the mercX. Thank you for your opinion. Thought i was the only one.
Nice demo! This is literally the pairing I was looking for, and one of the very few synth demos with the new Strymon.
Amazing sounds, congratulations! It’s evident the ease with which you work on this pedal, thank you for sharing. Greetings from Argentina!

Yes! I love this blue box. My dream sound!
Sounds amazing! Great reverbs, be all end all indeed.

Just got my Mood II …. having H9 next to it I think Iam covered but damn, that BigSky is ….. BIG ! Thanks for the demo
Don't sleep on the OTO BAM if you like Lexicon-style algorithms. It's so grainy and delicious.

Right, and a Mobius MX would be great

I liked the bright tone of cloud very much haha and the jittery sound. That was all about cloud. Now its more like a blackhole eventide i suppose?
Ok haha low diffusion is cool 🙌🏻
High difussion is like a freeze. Thats very very boring to me
Great video. Thanks!

I would not give the cloud algo anything with too much bass and roll off the tone control on the original big sky.

Great review - many thanks!
Do still planning to keep NightSky pedal after purchasing MX?
Yes.

Sounds great. Could you do a video on how you program that Launch PAD as a controller for that analog synth?
You don’t really have to do anything. It should just work out of the box.
Just to add that this is the pro mkiii which works standalone (without a computer)- you just plug it in and set the right midi channel.
Sold my Cloudburst, too, within one day for what I bought it for brand new.
yeah they hold value for sure !
That’s my opinion, but also I do love your videos
God I want this pedal
How is the Hall algorithm vs the Golden Reverberator Hall?
I like the hall more on the golden.
I will however say that so many of the other algorithms in the big sky Mx are superior to hall on the golden for the stuff I do.
@@YukiTheSynthDragon cool. Thanks for the replies. Any issues with overloading the strymon and getting clipping on hot signals?
@@FuzzFace it works fine with hot signals s in line level mode.

This is very true, unless the jam is the track 😅
@@happylittlesynth True. The point is to fill up space….when there aren’t other musicians doing it….
Tell that to The Edge.
@@DriveDelayReverb Who is that? Boomer?

Who needs Peter Dyer.
Great demo.
I thought the mercury x was your favorite Reverb. Until the next one comes out though.

nice rig
$680 is just unreasonable. You could buy 2-3 pedals and probably get the same / better sounds.
Ok. Let me know which ones.
I'm also interested in which 3 are better overall since I'm in the market for one. Preferably, for ambiance music. Thanks.
Better is subjective, but yes he could buy a used Empress Reverb and a $200 Delay, but does it matter?
Of course this comes out after I bought a RV500 😩
I'll never sell my Big Sky.
You don’t need to because the world doesn’t need cloud into Bloom come on now.
$700😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

A used Lexicon MX400 would blow this out of the water for 1/4 the price.
I mean that’s your opinion, I owned a mx400 for a while and don’t share that even remotely.
Great video. Thanks!
