- In today’s furniture makeover video, I am giving this thrifted desk a gorgeous transformation. I love turning trash to treasure and this desk was trashed. I had to strip all the old paint off using Citristrip. Then primed and painted it. I used Dixie Bell’s chalk mineral paint in two colors to give it a gorgeous blend. I stained the top in a rich Walnut color and revived the hardware with bronze and gold gilding waxes. I added Dixie Bell’s best dang wax to the corner of the drawer fronts and the gorgeous WoodUBend appliques.

I have a bedroom set that is exactly the same style and hardware. It was a night stand , vanity with mirror and bench, tall dresser and two sleigh style beds. Wood I was told is mahogany. I had it refinished. Used it for my sons room. The refinisher told me he could see a sticker behind the mirror that said 1940. My aunt originally bought this set when she graduated from high school and started working at General Electric lamp division in Warren Ohio.
Oh wow, thanks for the information! I had a feeling it was mahogany, but I didn’t want to say it just in case I was wrong 😂
This style of furnire is called Duncan Phyfe I have multiple pieces of this furniture and have had for over 50 yrs
I also wanted to let you know I do have this piece and use as a desk! I do love all my pieces!
Great decision to strip back the paint on the top.Unique and beautiful piece.
Thank you!
That’s a labor of love. It’s beautiful.
This piece turned out beautiful.❤ I love it
I wish there were television shows about furniture refurbishment like this. If there are, I haven't seen many. Tons of house flipping but this is calming, educational, teach people to save instead of throwing everything out. Teaches people to plan and learn etc. I could watch stuff like this all day a d we truly need to learn to appreciate quality and save things and reuse them. I am sure a car refurbishment show would be great, too. I do love furniture rehab tho. You did great with this piece. Beautiful!
I agree! Have you watched the Furniture Flipping Teacher? She has a furniture flipping show in her patreon group. I believe it’s $5 a month. I think the money pays for the competition and all the production and everything that goes into it. I’ve heard it’s amazing. Those two are so talented. I’m not a betting person but if I were, I would say they’ll have a show on Netflix or something someday. I haven’t signed up to watch yet but I am going to soon!
This is way better than any television show!! Great job with the desk.
That piece is stunning! You definitely brought out the beauty. Just Stunning! 👏🤩👏
Thank you so much!
The desk/ vanity is stunningly done. I love all the finishes you have used❣️❤️🔥❤️🔥
Thank you!
Wow! I'm so in love with wood and thankful you kept a natural wood top, but the willow color and blending makes this desk beautiful. You really are a master at refinishing. Keeping original hardware and bronzing it is the right idea. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
You are so welcome! Thank you for the kind comment 😊
So glad to see that you changed your mind and kept the top wood. The grain is beautiful!!
Me too😅
Laminate but very nicely done!!
This is GORGEOUS!! I am obsessed with flipping furniture and watching these types of videos. I’m always in love with the beautiful finishes… but they’re usually a solid color or two-tone type thing. I LOVE THE BLENDED LOOK!!! It’s stunning. Your attention to detail is amazing. And because I’m from GA I think your accent is, too 😆
Absolutely Love the piece! Great Job!! Wish you didn’t have the background music though cause I wanted to listen to you! Overall a great job!
I enjoy your videos. You don’t over explain and drag the process out. I also love the outcomes of your pieces.
The project came out fabulous. I wish all the cool products that you ladies on u tube use to do your furniture magic were available many decades ago when I had the furniture rescue bug. I mostly did solid wood pieces, sanding, using those awful smelling strippers, and I finally purchased a dremel tool with attachments that really helped those tricky areas and designs that back in the day furniture had. I loved this, wish I could do this creative stuff, but alas I am an old lady and all I can do now is watch, but I so enjoy doing so. You go girl
It’s so gratifying to see the vision all come together in the end. What a beautiful piece.
Good job😊. It turned out so pretty. I like those 2 colors together. 😊🙏🎨🎨🎨 Pamela
Thank you so much!
Just beautiful!!! I love it, and learn something from every one of your video's, so THANK YOU. 🌹
You are so welcome! That makes me so happy 😃
So beautiful
Vinegar is excellent for loosening glue!! Be careful when using it on joints
Thanks for the tip!
Excellent rescue and grate result. Very inspirational.
Thank you!
I love thrift stores. I just like finding gems in unexpected places.
Yes! 😊
My “home decorator” was Habitat for Humanity.”
@@mousiebrown1747 I like a mix of antiques and current when it comes to home decorating.
I was wondering how it all was going to come together but I was happily surprised. Love the top of the dresser and the drawer pulls. The blending of the two colors was perfect. Can’t wait to see more projects.
Thank you!
Hi! I just found you and absolutely LOVE how this turned out!! I have a couple of questions...is the clear coat food safe, by chance? I'm going to paint my dining table and am looking for a sealer. Also, what is the "scrubby" product you use? Thank you!
Great work!!! Beautiful!!!
It would be much better though if you didn't leave the water running while scrubbing the hardware. ✌🏻
That is a WOW piece!!!! You did an amazing job!! I am trying to get some ideas for a cedar chest that I have that needs some love. I like the blending technique. I will practice it. Thank you!!
Ok so you don’t think the best dang wax is a long lasting sealant. What should I use?? I’m doing a piece now and looking for a great CLEAR wax sealer. Please help! ❤
I love love it Beautiful job.
I learned so much! It’s beautiful. The accents are stunning. Thank you. I’ve subscribed now.
Love how you explain the blending. Congratulations! One more beautiful furniture transformation ❤
This indeed is absolutely beautiful! You have a gift of foreseeing the possibilities in a piece. I love the colors you use and your workmanship is superb!! Keep it up 😍
Fascinating to watch you in action. I’m In Australia and have done a few pieces, mainly for myself but have sold some (much to my great surprise). I have just bought a MCM stereo gram, the front is not material where the speakers are, it is striped pieces of wood in perfect condition, and so is the top but the sides are damaged and it is all veneer so I want to,preserve what I can and just paint and repair the little marks on the sides and do those gorgeous MCM legs in black. It,is going to be for my large tv. I do have a lovely ultra modern white one but is has no personality so my sister has bought it. Our weather has been so hot that I haven’t been able to start anything outside yet so tomorrow, fingers crossed, when can get the orbital sander and just do a very gentle sand and clean. I love these MCM pieces, they are a little older than me but just so stylish. It even has the record player stacker arm for more than one album to be ready to go and then drop down to play. Thank you for the inspiration that you give to those of us who are not great at this but really love doing it. Beautifully done!
That stripper has been tested by 2 other furniture flippers, not good! It doesn't work half as good as Kwick strip. I get it when your in a bind, but scrapping probably was your best bet.
I'm new to painting but I do love the Dixie Belle and I think you did a fabulous job! The piece is beautiful I love the colors that you chose
Wow beautiful. Love your attitude. No nonsense. Very authentic ❤️🥰💯
I have a vanity I’m trying to refurbish. I think it had a veneer though. How do I know? And can I do this same kind of process?
You did not wax the center drawer decoration? It sticks out. Would look better with matching color top. You could do a woodgrain look on it. There is too much visually going on here, but you do very nice work.
It's beautiful! Would like to know about the gator ? Sealer ? Im sure i got that wrong. Can you use it over chalk paint and wax for a smooth permanent sealer or would it not work?
This is beautiful beautiful beautiful. I never thought about doing shading of a color 2 tone on furniture, but that is beautifuli would want it from my house. Because the margren is not my color but I love the technique it's beautiful
Absolutely beautiful. You got all the details perfectly . Thank you for sharing
Not a fan of the green--but you did a great job and it's a beautiful transformation. Love that you kept the top natural.
on other channels, the girls put about a tablespoon of the stain color in the clear sealer and stir it very very well then spray it on, that stops the cloudiness....it works very well, one girl said she was flipping furniture for 6 years when she found out that tip....
I’m not into painted furniture but this…..wow! I love it!!!! I may even give it a try!!!!
You wanted to opinions. I think it is really beautiful and it was interesting to see how you work with the paints on the drawers fronts. I would like it more if the top got another staining, lighter, warmer and thinner ( like walnut) I like the green color especially the unblended. I would want the cream color to take less space and let the darker green dominate the doorfronts. I really liked your work with the hardware
, and how they turned out.
Amy!! I really love this. It looks so elegant. Awesome blending with the two colors.🥰🥰🥰👍
I have this desk in mahogany. I love the way the wood glows, so I would never paint it, but yours is fun and young.
Even with just the primer this piece looked so much better! Wonderful job!
Might as well paint the top as use a gel that dark that hides the woodgrain. Gel stains are good to hide lots of imperfections, but are hard to apply well in my experience.
I think “Wow!” Thats gorgeous! Beautiful work. ❤😊
Love the green and mahogany top. however, I am not too keen on the light paint, I feel a lighter green in the centre would be better. That being said it does look beautiful.
Beautiful, Not seen this technique before and was a bit dubious at the start, but it finished up as a beautiful work of art. So clever.
It turned out beautiful! Well done! ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you! 😊
Love it! Happy to see this piece saved.
Thank you! Me too☺️
How much???? I want it so bad. It’s so beautiful. Great job
My fav color green!! It is
absolutely Gorgeous!! Love your tutorial on your blending &
Shadowing!!❤❤❤
Thanks Cathy! ❤️
It’s GORGEOUS! WOW! ♥️
Thanks! 😊
Gorgeous Gorgeous gorgeous!!! I love your videos, tutorials and you 😍
I hope you sell it for big $ 🙏
I'm in absolute love 💚💚💚💚💚 I'm at work looking at my ugly overhead (metal) bins thinking - "How difficult would you be to do some blending on?" 😉 Once it's done, how mad could my boss be?
Haha, they might even thank you for doing it! 😂
I love your work and instruction as you flip this furniture. It's a beautiful desk/vanity and I love the transformation. The only thing is I think I personally would have loved the second color in the blending to be less white. Like a lighter green to blend more seamlessly. But I love your skills!
Thank you! 😊
Gorgeous! New to your channel, just subscribed. Thank you for this video. After searching so many, I must say that your demonstration and clear instructions were the BEST!
Thank you so much! 😊
I'm not a fan of painting furniture, but that worked quite nicely!
Wish I could have it in my bedroom as a makeup station. Love it!❤
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Consider a wider putty knofe! One incher rakes 4 times longer !
I absolutely love this!! So glad you stained the top. New subby.
Love that you stained the top. The dark stain looks great with the green and cream colors.
Amy, this is so beautiful. Love you blend. The Woodubend was a perfect touch. I'm not much of a scraper either😘
Hey LaVonne 👋 thanks 😊 even the noise from scrapping bothers me 😂🤷♀️
This is absolutely stunning!!!!😍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
You did an awesome job on this piece! I absolutely love it! BEAUTIFUL work!
Thank you!
It’s gorgeous… I’m happy I came across your channel ... I love how beautiful your work is you make it look so easy. ❤
Thank you so much 😊
I wasn't really sure of the highlights on the front, I thought it was going to look very gimmicky but I just had to trust the process because it came out great and really complimented the style of the desk 😍
Thank you! 😊
Wow ! I am blown away ! Your creativity has made this piece a work of art. Thank you for sharing this masterpiece, and giving us the tutorial.
Thank you so much 😀
Amazing transformation. So much work, but definitely worth it. Great job!
Thank you so much!
So pretty. You’re very talented. I’m inspired to start doing this too
Lovely ❤❤❤.
I was wondering if you were going to still do the Downton Abbey character furniture.
Thanks, Yes I am! I am hoping to have it out this month. I wanted to have one out last month but we had freezing pipes to deal with and the weather was a nightmare.
Soon for sure! 🤗
You truly are a “die hard” furniture artist. I’m always amazed at the steps you go through to get to the end result. Absolutely beautiful. ❤️ Your blending technique is perfect every time 😊
Haha yeah it’s a lot sometimes 😅 I just love a good outcome. Thank you 😊
What a wonderful job it looks gorgious🥰 funny I just tried same color combo but with fusion paint … and coming to the same conclusion that dixie belle is waaaayyyyy easier if you blend 😂😂 I hated it and redone it with just one color cause I am out of chalk paint. Maybe you can do a blend with mineral paint some day to show how it really is done 🙏 with the water mister color is changing extremely and without it it dries too fast 😩
I know exactly what you mean, Mineral Paint is really tricky to blend!
This piece just takes my breath away. I'm about to paint my first pieces of furniture and only dream I can create something like this eventually. I learned so much from this, thank you!
You will! ❤️
It’s very pretty. I think it is so pretty it could have carried a more true gold highlight. I like the combination but not toning down the gold. Allow the gold to elevate the piece and the bronze. Another stellar piece you have created! I love your attention to detail! Beautiful!❤❤❤❤
Thank you! 😊
Beautiful! So glad you decided to go back and redo the top. It turned out so beautiful
You're very skilled, but honestly, i dont like it! ( sorry)😊
I could watchch you bring the pieces to life!!! Simply beautiful ❤
Very beautiful 😍 amazing work 👏👏👏
Very beautiful! You did a very good job on visualizing the outcome! Tasteful and classy!
Thank you so much!
Turned out amazing despite the inhospitable conditions of winter! 💖
Thanks!
Too bad it got repainted. A wash would have been so beautiful.
I missed the brand that you said you sealed it with. Would you please share that again? Thanks! Beautiful piece! ❤
Thank you! It was Dixie Belle Clear Coat in Satin.
Gorgeous. I do wonder what the piece would look like if you had treated the whole as you did the top
So beautiful! Great job ...I really like the colors and shadowing of the drawers
Thank you so much!
I only use citristrip if I can’t find anything better.
This project came out beautifully. Your hard work and artistic eye certainly brought out the best in this piece of furniture.
Thank you so much 😊
Omgosh……. Absolutely beautiful!
It's beautiful! The combo of willow & buttercream is so classy.
Did you use a different color on the edge or the same stain but more saturated?
Thank you! It was the same stain but much more saturated.
While it was a lot of prep work I think those curved front drawers are so beautiful and definitely a piece worth saving and doing such a beautiful makeover.
Thank you!❤️
It's an amazing Job, you've done. This desk looks pretty good. ❤
Thank you! 😊
the cloudy sealer can be handled by adding a tiny bit of the dark in the container of the sealer, it is when you apply the sealer over a dark is when it gets cloudy, so in future if you are out of gater hide and only have the store brand just pour some in a container and add some stain or the dark color in to not too much, about a couple of tablespoons to a fourth cup, depends on how much sealer you have....less is more...
Thanks for the tip!
It's gorgeous! Love the color choices. You do great work!
Beautiful!!!! thank you for sharing.
Aw, I have this exact, same desk, but it has been in my incredibly smelly basement for about 25 yrs, so I don't think there's any way to get rid of the smell. That came out gorgeous, and it's interesting to see what I COULD'VE done with it.
What about pulling it outside and spraying shellac to seal the odor? Ive had to do it on some pretty stinky pieces.
@@FlipItFurniture It's in better shape than I remembered, so I'm going to try doing that! Thanks for the tip!
The dresser transformation is gorgeous...💚💚💚
Did you sell it and for how much? It turn out fantastic!
Wow you nailed it!! Beautiful!!! Very well done ❤
