I know this is a year late, but I'm sure most animals that are usually pretty calm would "become more aggressive" when put in a situation like that. For example a normal dog just relaxing in a calm environment and being poked _might_ be a little bit annoyed, but if you've pushed it into a corner and made it feel genuinely unsafe...
@Coconut Xavier That's a valid point. I guess a better example would be a snake that relies on camoflage being put in a place where it can only strike? Pretty much the same situation, just with a larger animal.
@Coconut Xavier Oh yea, I've known someone who almost needed an amputation from a brown recluse bite. They're definitely much more likely to bite. Still, sand spiders are one of the more docile species out there, and were the ones I had been talking about.
I love how venom develops and how the environment plays an important role. I saw a video with scorpions and how the test was to feed subject 1 often and not feed subject 2 AS often, and subject 2 ended up with a higher toxicity than subject 1.
A spider not building webs, not able to get up smooth surfaces and not aggressive is kind of the best things for people with arachnophobia. (If it would be less venomous)
Naruto Gaming not at all, there are dwarf tarantulas and pretty small normal tarantulas too. Plus, the huntsman spider (which is a true spider) is much bigger than many tarantulas when adult, size really is a bad argument
It's pretty rare that I watch these types of videos but I really appreciate your professionalism and setting a good example for people to follow, rather than trying to be all macho like many others. Cheers! :)
Reminds me of a huntsman, flat lying legs and a similar head/body shape. That is very scary because somebody might grab one mistaking it for a harmless huntsman
If I'm not mistaken, although the shape is very similar, the size difference is pretty big. As you can tell here, whenever he tries picking them up, or gently nudging them with his finger, the sand spiders are actually pretty small, whereas huntsman spiders can be relatively large, big enough to easily spot on someone's hand, and roughly the same size as the hand itself. The other thing is, as the video mentions, the sand spiders are pretty harmless, themselves. Obviously it would be a bad idea to pick up ANY spider, especially in the wild, both to be cautious, and out of respect for the animal. But you wouldn't necessarily be in any greater danger with these, simply because of their habits.
I like to imagine the spider dosent even have THAT in the dunes so it's all exited about it. Spider 1: Yo check out my rock you peasants. Spider 2 and 3: holy shit bro were you get that sweet ass rock?! Spider 1: it was a gift from the gods. Spider 2: what? Spider 3: what gods? Spider 1: foolish peasants. You insult powers far beyond our mortal understanding. Spider 2 to 3: I think he's talking about our hooman. Spider 3: yea no shit Billy.
i think the reason why the sand sticks to younger spiders is to act as a defence mechanism and when they get older, arguably, they don't need it....just a thought :)
NYAN CAT FARTS RAINBOWS actually evolution isn’t what adds and removes things, it’s if something isn’t used in the body or vice verca the body will either keep not using it so it shrinks and dissapears (like that one human part that dissapeared) or we will grow something new because we need it to survive in a new situation, but that won’t be until a very very long time

Among many of the most venomous spiders, the Sydney Funnel web (Atrax robustus) is one of a few very deadly spiders from the suborder (Mygalomorphae) which are the "primitive spiders" including tarantulas and trap doors etc. but so far, the most deadly, toxic spiders of the suborder Araneomorphae, are members of the genus Phoneutria otherwise known as the Brazilian Wandering spiders (of the Ctenidae family), Latrodectus species (Black widows) and members of the family Sicariidae which include Loxosceles, the Brown recluse and Six Eyed sand spider (Sicarius hahni & related species), the latter is allegedly a species that rivals or possibly surpasses Phoneutria in terms of its toxicity although its venom includes an entirely different mechanism, a cytotoxic cocktail as opposed to Phoneutria's neurotoxic venom which blocks ion channels etc. & includes copious amounts of serotonin etc creating immense pain and of course, so many factors as the video suggests play a role envenomation. Phoneutria fera is considered more toxic than P. nigriventer, the most reported culprit in Phoneutria bites. Keep in mind, most spider bites are misidentified so spider bite cases are usually bogged down by egregious errors with identification. Where as SIcarius bites are harder to document and certainly more rare, Atrax and Phoneutria are to date, reported to possess the most virulent neurotoxic venoms which are toxic enough to kill an adult human however; people do not realize that unlike Atrax which usually injects a full load, the more advanced Phoneutria species, reserve their venom and rarely inject a full load, sometimes even delivering a dry bite which is why there are few fatalities. This unfortunately creates a somewhat cavalier attitude toward Phoneutria where various papers or reports tend to now minimize the danger which is obviously extremely flawed and dangerous. In the rare cases when a Phoneutria feels threatened enough to inject a larger quantity of venom, then the victim can suffer long hours of agonizing pain along with priapism or die if not treated quickly, case in point, where a British chef was bitten twice by a Phoneutria imported into England within a produce box. The victim eventually suffered cardiac arrest after initially thinking he would "be OK" and after emergency treatment, eventually recovered. The Sicarius bite is far less understood since there is so little data to support well researched studies of human envenomation. Obviously it is considered extremely dangerous and like all spiders, it all depends on the location of the bite, the age, health and over all immune response of the victim not to mention any external factors such as bacteria or various pathogens inhabiting the venom.
A bug and spider-lover I knew as a kid (he had a bunch of terrariums with all kinds of insects and spiders and scorpions) once told me "The stronger the venom, the more energy it takes to make it. Spiders are pretty lazy and don't like to have to make strong venom over and over if they don't have to." If that tracks, I can understand why the spider with the most potent venom, living in one of the most desolate environments on Earth, wouldn't want to waste it on something they can't get a return from.
Jason has made me less scared of spiders, I still don't particularly want to hold the ones at college but I'm no longer scared to service their enclosure, so thanks dude
When you said "I'm poking his face." I thought of it think to itself "poke poke, poke, he's poke, poke, poking me..." It might not be funny for u, but I died thinking of that XD
1:58 They are still camouflaged during adulthood, in a way. Even if the sand doesn’t cover them completely, as in this case, they could easily be mistaken for a small stone.
Since these spiders normally live where almost no species preys on them, then it makes sense that they don't bite. If they've only ever used their fangs to kill their own prey, then they probably never even developed the instinct to use their fangs for defense.
Do you think the spider would be more likely to inflict a bite if it had no sand on which to camouflage on? Perhaps if it was placed on a smooth, sand-less surface the spider would feel more threatened and take you as a predator instead of something that could have possibly only touched it by accident while it was camouflaged... Just a thought :) Btw love your videos!
Brown recluse bites are tricky because if you don't see them bite you , you don't notice the bite until a day later when it starts it's necrotic fun (I've had this happen twice) .The area starts turning black and becomes painful. The blackened area grows as it destroys tissue. I got mine excised pretty quickly and didn't have more than a dime size scar in the worst case. Many friends in the same year that were bit had large areas affected and huge scars that are quite gnarly (no one died of course) from letting it go without intervention for too long. We think it was because of the heavy rains that so many people were bit that year. It made the news in that area of Texas in '89 it was so common an occurrence. Black widows bite you , you notice pretty quickly and symptoms get very severe 8 hours after the bite. The person normally starts getting better a day later. Brown recluse the wound can just keep on growing for months.
I imagine my house kind of looking like yours with how many animals you have, minus the insects/arachnids and plus in fish tanks lmao but I've gotta say, for some reason those spiders are actually pretty cute
They remind me of ball pythons in a way. Mostly how docile they are, and how they prefer to ball/hide themselves from a threat, rather than attack. It's pretty adorable how shy they are, and what they do.
As I often tell my students, in most cases, if you manage to get bitten by a arthropod, you probably deserve it. And here we only have two species of deadly spiders: The Black Widow and the Brown Recluse spider, the latter is a mean-tempered angry little thing, but you won't feel the bite itself anyway, only the aftermath.
i find on average one yellow scorpion (Tityus serrulatus) per year in my bedroom. always at night. would i still be at fault if i got stung? yeah, i don't think so. good thing i have a perfect record too, because these fuckers are somewhat aggressive and potentially deadly (well probably not to me, but something that can kill children and elderly people can't be pleasant to deal with either way). i walk bare-footed indoors. "In Brazil, scorpions are credited with causing the highest incidence of human envenomations of all venomous animals. They cause more than all other venomous animals, including snakes and spiders, combined. With mortality rates ranging from 1.0 to 2.0% among children and elderly persons, T. serrulatus is responsible for more medically significant accidents than any other scorpion in the country. Most stings occur in urban areas, inside or near homes, with greater frequency in the south and southeast during the warm and rainy months, but with little or no seasonal variability in the north, northeast, and center-west."
I’m south U.K. and I have Segestria Florentina living inside and outside my house in Kent. I recently holidayed in Devon and came across what I think is Segestria senoculata living in the thatched roof of the cottage, much smaller than Florentina and brown in colour but the same tube web home.
Are they still non-aggressive if you grab them by the abdomen? When I was a kid I found that action terrifies most spiders into opening their fangs to bite. After handling thousands, I was only ever bit a few times, and only one broke the skin. All the bites were from grass spiders with the sheet webs with hidey tunnels.
Amazing! The most deadly when provoked yet don’t get provoked unless they absolutely totally and utterly have to. A spider with absolute power and morals!
Really enjoyed this video. Had seen these funny spiders before on the Dark Den. Surprised theres not more subscirbers to Jason Millers chanell its really good - subscribed.
Okay after some looking into it, there is no recorded bite from from a 6 eyed sand spider, however they have looked at its venom and its very deadly! But I think as it stands the Wandering Spider still has the title of most venomous spider in the world.
Seems to me these spiders would do this because from an evolutionary standpoint, they would be highly hesitant to attack something that they weren't completely sure that they could kill in one bite. Probably because if, in their minds, they blow their cover and bite something and that thing survives, there's like a 100% chance that said thing would kill the spider in a counter-attack.
so damn cute! ♥ i love it how they just twitch and try to scurry a tiny bit when touched and they are like "dude why yuh touching me please stop D: please stop dude come on seriously stop stooooooop jeez dude i am not liking this come on yuh embarrassing me!" and just seeing them just dig on sand and just nuzzle in to the sand to where can get comfy to blend it and just scoop sand on to it is self and wiggle to get in to the sand and just hide it is so freaken cute!
He just knows that spider species well enough to have confidence that it won't do anything. And that, even if it did, the equipment is sufficient enough to prevent the bite from reaching his skin. Thorough research and common sense play equal factors. It's not bravery so much as just, knowing how docile the spider is.
You forget to mention that - because you have been feeding these spiders regularly - they are also less inclined to see you as a threat. Spiders are smarter than most people think they are. One of my friends actually had a spider that he would feed so regularly that the spider would actually sway its web in excitement every time he brought it food.
Venom in tarantulas is a curious thing we assume pokies are the worst bite you could take but how many sp have we really seen a bite report of I heard cobalts give similar symptoms as a ornata so is the venom really different or is it the amounts they choose to inject? Are some species more likely to give dry bites? Are some new world tarantulas able to put out the same dose as old worlds?
I always thought the Brazilian wondering spider was the most venomous. Is that because of how aggressive the wondering spider species is? Or is the sand spider venom that deadly? I'm not calling you out, I'm just really curious.

These sand spiders seem so confident in their camouflage that it's like they don't even register the possibility that they have been spotted by a potential predator.
Maybe, it's because the spider realizes, that the glove is a non-living object, so it would be pointless to bite it.
It is better to be potentially seen and known to be alive, than to lurch and remove all doubt.

hotpockets222 What do I not know? I have 3 tarantulas, 2 of them build webs. What are you talking about
hotpockets222 do YOUR research then, I bet me and Dicktron there can show you channels, pages and random videos proving that.
My god... Stubborn kid
Okay, but can we talk about how the way those spiders cover themselves with sand is the cutest and most relatable thing ever?
"i cannot see you, therefor you cannot see me... i am hidden"
the spider: [anxious™] pls stop...
this guy: poke poke poke
the spider: [starts crying]
This is the Aaron Burr of spiders. Always willing to wait for it.
i'd never thought i'd find a fellow Hamilton fan in this part of RUclips.
I LOLed when I read this!

Holy shit I love you
It's pretty rare that I watch these types of videos but I really appreciate your professionalism and setting a good example for people to follow, rather than trying to be all macho like many others. Cheers!
But you wouldn't necessarily be in any greater danger with these, simply because of their habits.
not really a bad idea not a lot of spiders can harm a human or penetrate the human skin
Biodiversity - The series yo
Biodiversity - The series , Sand Spider is prettier
Biodiversity - The series it would be hard to confuse this with a huntsman as huntsman Get a fair bit larger then this one
Anyone else hear these guys speaking with a bad French accent?
that one video of a sand spider burying itself tho' ;)
"scratch scratch scratch scratch scratch scratch scratch"
Singular rock. Wow you have a really good taste in decor...
Neno1277
I think that is a great thought
NYAN CAT FARTS RAINBOWS actually evolution isn’t what adds and removes things, it’s if something isn’t used in the body or vice verca the body will either keep not using it so it shrinks and dissapears (like that one human part that dissapeared) or we will grow something new because we need it to survive in a new situation, but that won’t be until a very very long time
I like apples
@Jason Eder 😂😂 wtf man. Chill.
RUclips is promoting the heck out of this dumb video right now for some reason! HI NEW FRIENDS! If you enjoyed watching this, do me a big favor and check out my more recent videos! New uploads every Monday! I promise they're all better than this one!

i was looking for a video of somebody giving a (presumably) pet spider a scratchy lol
Fascinating 😁👍
A bug and spider-lover I knew as a kid (he had a bunch of terrariums with all kinds of insects and spiders and scorpions) once told me "The stronger the venom, the more energy it takes to make it. Spiders are pretty lazy and don't like to have to make strong venom over and over if they don't have to."
If that tracks, I can understand why the spider with the most potent venom, living in one of the most desolate environments on Earth, wouldn't want to waste it on something they can't get a return from.
Jason has made me less scared of spiders, I still don't particularly want to hold the ones at college but I'm no longer scared to service their enclosure, so thanks dude
I just imagine the spiders screaming FFUUUUUUUCCCCKKKKK OFFFFFF
Father Piggy he’s the sand guardian, guardian of the sand. Poseidon kneels before him.
Itd be my luck to get one of these and its stupidly aggressive
They may have venom
But we have the foot
Not after its done with you.
Imagine it biting your left nut. Well I'm gonna go sleep and have nightmares now.
Yesss lmao

Do you think they're possible to free-handle? My instinct is not worth the risk, but I want to see what options I have when I film them in the wild
Don’t do it lol
1:58 They are still camouflaged during adulthood, in a way. Even if the sand doesn’t cover them completely, as in this case, they could easily be mistaken for a small stone.
“No chance of me getting hurt” … famous last words of many ER visits. I thought Sydney funnel webs were the most lethal.
"They can go a year without food."
*Me thinking about what I want for a snack because I ate dinner two hours ago and I'm starving*
When you're deadly af but you have morals
*Professionals have standards*
Since these spiders normally live where almost no species preys on them, then it makes sense that they don't bite. If they've only ever used their fangs to kill their own prey, then they probably never even developed the instinct to use their fangs for defense.
Perfect pet for me 8:28 spiders like “. Come on bro wht have I dun to u? “ so cuuute
Just a thought :)
Btw love your videos!
My diagnosis: Stay the hell away from me.
Spiders are not cute imo, but that burying movement was adorable.
very beautiful spiders
Very well done💛✨️✨️✨️🍀🍀....but l thought the japanese Funnel web spider is the most dangerous one
"I would like to pet this creature."
"Vulkan do not pet that sneaky little stepper"
"It would be but a single boop on the noggin"
They have finally taken the top spot for the most lethal venom (to humans) of any spider.
I imagine my house kind of looking like yours with how many animals you have, minus the insects/arachnids and plus in fish tanks lmao
but I've gotta say, for some reason
those spiders are actually pretty cute
They remind me of ball pythons in a way. Mostly how docile they are, and how they prefer to ball/hide themselves from a threat, rather than attack. It's pretty adorable how shy they are, and what they do.
*Pokes spider repeatedly*
Spider: “Excuse me. E- excuse me. EXCUSE ME”
As I often tell my students, in most cases, if you manage to get bitten by a arthropod, you probably deserve it.
@@GraveUypo You should grab them and sell them on the internet. People who keep scorpions as pets will pay good money for Tityus serrulatus.
I’m south U.K. and I have Segestria Florentina living inside and outside my house in Kent. I recently holidayed in Devon and came across what I think is Segestria senoculata living in the thatched roof of the cottage, much smaller than Florentina and brown in colour but the same tube web home.
Very informative and easy to watch. You’re great on camera.
Pet rock Lmaoooo
When he was touching the adult i bet the spider was singing that song that goes.. LEAVE ME ALOOOOOONE
The deadliest spider is a Sydney funnel web they can kill you in 30-60 minutes and hide in little burrow and corners.
Plus they are super aggressive.
French laugh. I cannot see you, you cannot see me. Therefore I am hidden!
Okay after some looking into it, there is no recorded bite from from a 6 eyed sand spider, however they have looked at its venom and its very deadly! But I think as it stands the Wandering Spider still has the title of most venomous spider in the world.
Thank you Jason!
Really appreciate the video, we need more from you!
Six eyed sand spider: "Coyote Peterson... what's good?"
a year without food? I cant go 4 hours without food.
we humans are just hulking entropy accelerators.
They have very low metabolism (spiders in general), it's nuts how little they actually need to eat.
How would this thing's venom compare with that of the Brazilian Wandering Spider's Venom in terms of which is the most dangerous of the two?
Deadly or harmless my broom can take both.(On wood floor of course)
Seems to me these spiders would do this because from an evolutionary standpoint, they would be highly hesitant to attack something that they weren't completely sure that they could kill in one bite. Probably because if, in their minds, they blow their cover and bite something and that thing survives, there's like a 100% chance that said thing would kill the spider in a counter-attack.
It was always my understanding that the Brazilian wandering spider was the most venomous spider.
cole williams Yeah, that's what I've always heard
The warning dance is the best
so damn cute!
Jesus Christ you have huge balls for putting your finger in there
He just knows that spider species well enough to have confidence that it won't do anything. And that, even if it did, the equipment is sufficient enough to prevent the bite from reaching his skin.
Thorough research and common sense play equal factors. It's not bravery so much as just, knowing how docile the spider is.
InSaynt That's bravery.
Thanks
Jesus Christ lol
Biagio Santosuosso . A lot of short guys are surprisingly uh um "tall" and large down there
That moment when the deadliest spider in the world is the biggest wimp of any other spider
4:24 - 4:40 - Well i'm sold, where do I get one?
The spider being poked:

I can't be the only one who got SO happy when he pronounced "Chile" correctly?
Chile cheese fries
Muricans say it all the time
You forget to mention that - because you have been feeding these spiders regularly - they are also less inclined to see you as a threat. Spiders are smarter than most people think they are. One of my friends actually had a spider that he would feed so regularly that the spider would actually sway its web in excitement every time he brought it food.
In some web weaving true spiders swaying in the web is a defense ;)
@@angelad3170 To a point, yes.
Try that with a Wandering spider..
Spider: * Gets poked remains completely still screaming on the inside *
i find it so cute when they move their arms to cover themselves
Venom in tarantulas is a curious thing we assume pokies are the worst bite you could take but how many sp have we really seen a bite report of I heard cobalts give similar symptoms as a ornata so is the venom really different or is it the amounts they choose to inject? Are some species more likely to give dry bites? Are some new world tarantulas able to put out the same dose as old worlds?
00:00 What’s up with that awkward-ass arm gesture lmfao 😂
I always thought the Brazilian wondering spider was the most venomous. Is that because of how aggressive the wondering spider species is? Or is the sand spider venom that deadly? I'm not calling you out, I'm just really curious.
