The compressor after the reverb is a great technique. I'm a novice when it comes to sidechaining, mixing, etc., but I've found that this really tames the reverb and brings out the vocals. Great tutorial as always Mike!
I'm a sixties garage band guy. We used a 4 port mixer into a one channel of the stereo reel to reel. Used the other for vocals. This is like showing me the plans for the space shuttle. I love it. Thanks!!!!!!!
I like to bus midrange instruments and use a dynamic compressor with a band ducking 800-1500 side chained to vocal on mid channel only to make the vocal pop. only a couple DB
For years, I've wanted the vocal effect on Robet Smit's vocal on the Cure song A Short Term Effect (downward pitch shift on the delay feedback). Anyone know of a pitch shifter that has a sidechain input to trigger when there is no input (i.e., no dry vocal)? The pitch shift would also need an automated change of the pitch value when triggered rather than being static. It's possible to do this manually or with automation in a DAW, but it would be nice to have it be an automatic effect rather than having to do the work of adding automation after each lyric line. It would be a cool effect for someone to create and market as A Short Term Effect, or perhaps have it be a preset on a multi-effect processor.
So you're sidechaining the acoustic to the compressor. And the compressor is on the acoustic track? Interesting I've only seen sidechaining when the compressor is on a seperate track
That meme is so true. Drummer still has hair, bass player pulled all his out due to band stress.😂

This is probably the best breakdown of sidechaining I've come across, and will immediately make use of. Thank you!
Thank you Preston :)
Seriously, I want to make use of all of these techniques, Mike. Thanks again for your explicit and clear instruction.
Mike your chanal is very important to me and I'm sure many others.
Thank you Michael :)
Too much top end on the bass in the thumbnail 😂
Lol

:) Such an awesome comment. Thank you!
Very well explained. Thank you very much. Keep up the good work.
My pleasure, thanks for watching!

On reverb, also. I don't use it often enough.
Gotta try the vocal side chain!!
I've been using TDR Nova a lot lately, you can have different compression levels on different parts of the signal.
You just nailed it,simple and clear 👍
Easy to understand examples, thanks for sharing!
Thank You! This is the best explanation of the R37 knob that I have ever heard. No one has explained it as easily and as well as you have.
1000 points for the thumbnail. Also: great video!
Thank you :)
Cool Stuff .. Can't wait to try some of these ..
Thanks Mike !
Lotsa new things for me! Comp after reverb, internal sidechain, few! Thanks so much Mike.
Very helpful, thanks
