What a night of excitement and exceptional performance at the famous White House Bar in Limerick! Fifteen poets went head to head for the honour to represent Munster in the All Ireland Poetry Slam in Dublin this November. Talent oozed out of the bar as they took to the microphone to captivate the distinguished panel of judges - Sarah Clancy, Eoin Devereux and Tommy Collins. And that they did, and no more so than the eventual winner Kemi George-Simpson from Cork who emerged victorious with a masterfully crafted Villanelle for her second poem!
One of the largest crowds for a poetry event in Limerick gathered for the Munster Poetry Slam, which made a triumphant return to the long considered home of poetry in Limerick after an absence of nearly a decade! The worthy runners-up (who will also go forward to the finals in Dublin) were Mel White and Ciaran MacArtain!
The night was expertly MCed by Ronal Deegan and the event was hosted collaboratively by the Limerick Writers' Centre and Lime Square Poets as part of their 'First Wednesday Series', the event reaffirmed Limerick's status as a vibrant hub for poetic expression.
