Your video was incredibly helpful! Thank you so much for your, calm, clear, evenly-paced, well-shot footage. For ten months I have been hoping to catch an older female kitty living in the yard. This morning I finally did! And I followed your instructions to the letter, which is part of the reason the catch was successful. Sweet girl is at the vet now...

Thanks for this excellent presentation. I have borrowed this drop trap from someone who didn't know what the extra grid was for, so I didn't utilize it. One kitty was so big and rambunctious he was able to move that trap 3 feet to the edge of the concrete thereby creating a gap at the uneven surface from concrete pad to grass that could have been his escape. Now I know to use that weight grid as an anchor.

I have used this trap for years numerous times alone, no problems, then a couple of weeks ago a cat dragged it and almost escaped, then last night my friend had a cat squeeze out the top in the middle - he pushed the folding area on the roof and got out! Needless to say, we're also going to be weighting from now on and attaching the center area of the roof, as well!

Thank you for the video. When i recieved the trap, I had no clue on setting it up and difficulty folding back up and putting it back in the folded top and securing it. Saving video for help with future use.

I've been using the Tomahawk drop trap for several years and have caught at least 60-70 cats with it. I'm the "official cat trapper" of our large group that care for and feed feral cat colonies around the Hilton Head SC area. This is a must have item for all the difficult or previously trapped cats.
The video was helpful, because I was not aware that the second spring in the front was to attach to the transfer cage. I had always used bungee cords, but this will make the process easier.
To anyone that purchases a drop trap, I suggest ordering a Tomahawk walk in trap, like the Neighborhood cat trap, with a rear sliding door. The transfer cage costs about as much as the walk in but is not as versatile.

I am the feral cat trapper for our local SPCA and we don't have a box trap so I am going to encourage them to buy one or two so I can trap faster.

This a very informative vid. I’ve had my drop trap for about 5+ yrs and never used it because I was never shown. I’ve only used the traditional trap. The one with the self activated trap door. I have 3 cats I need to trap and they are always together. This is great. Now I can trap all at once🙏🏽

Thanks for this video! Working on a TNR initiative in my neighborhood and we'll be utilizing this drop trap. Learned a couple of things since the instructions that came with it were quite meager.

Always cover your traps with a towel to make the cats feel safer. It calm them down and prevents them from injuring themselves.

I strongly suggest for tear down: Clip the clips to the sides of the trap. Don’t let them dangle. If you let them dangle, they will clip to the trap on their own but in all the wrong places, and you will need to pry them apart next time you go to set your trap. This can get extremely difficult if not impossible to accomplish without a pair of pliers. If your finger gets stuck, it hurts bad. And with a colony of cats watching… never again!

You MUST clip the sliding door on the drop trap with the clips otherwise a tom cat can bust out of the sliding door. I’ve trapped over 250 cats and have had it happen once, never again. Also, make sure the surface is completely flat, no tree roots! Cover drop trap with a blanket, not a towel immediately. Cover transfer trap on the top and sides, but leave the end open so they can see all the way through. Make sure cat is not looking at you and make sure you have no slack in your rope and it’s best to hide in your car or behind a fence, building, etc. as you have be cautious with kittens as drop trap is very heavy if it comes down on a kitten so you have to be very quick but once you know the cat/kitten is focused on the food and not going to steal a chunk and run out.

These drop traps work great for catching a cat but unfortunately my cat would not move from the drop trap into the transfer cage. I watched several videos on this and tried everything including prodding her with a small stick to make her go into the transfer cage. Finally I put on some gloves and put my hand under the cage and tried to push her into the transfer cage which I know is not recommended but she would not go in it. We accidentally raised the drop trap up too high and she escaped. Now I don’t know if she will ever come back. I wasn’t doing trap neuter return. I’ve become very attached to this cat and was taking her to the vet to get spayed and her shots and for FIV / FELV testing, flea worm treatment but now I don’t know if she’ll ever come back and if she does if she’ll go back under a trap. Even if she does come back and I am able to catch her in the drop trap I may still not be able to get her in the transfer cage. I am so disappointed this didn’t work out.

I'm sorry. I have had some, that I had to turn the trap, not this kind the other kind, totally upside down and slide them INTO a carrier. I kid you not. Have faith.

I'm so sorry she escaped. I know the feeling of getting very attached. I'm in that process and purchased a drop trap hoping to trap a feral cat and keep her after being vetted. Did she come back? You probably know this, but cover the entire drop trap with a sheet/blanket and leave the end of the transfer trap open...so she thinks there is a way of escape. Best to you!
