What are the dimensions for your skin pattern or design? You could also try and play around with the offsets in the workshop to maybe combat that issue of not being overlaid properly.
Hey man very nice tutorial, i just got 1 question. On 2:30 you say that the width and the height have to be 2048, but for me it is 1024 on default. What would happen if i left both height and width on 1024?
i followed ur steps and i can proudly say mission failed successfully i managed to put the texture into the game inspected and all but i think i fucked up in the vfxedit and now am stuck with a cooler skin by mistake
Whenever I upload a TGA base texture the game just shows me the default pink and black checkerboard texture on the gun. The checkerboard is larger, so the skin is just pink with big black fuzzy squares. I made the skin tga using 3dcoat and photoshop, and I put it in the custom file like you said to in the video. Hi I am a skin creator and I would like to ask something. I am using a 1080p monitor, but I was able to change it to 4k via Nvidia control panel. I do this so I can get good screenshots, but when I use the CS2 workbench, there resolution is restricted to 1080p. I wanna change it to 4K, could you help me please??
After designing a skin as you showed, while checking it in the workshop, I realized that I chose a very dark color and rearranged it in blender. I added the new file to the custom folder again, but the open folder was unprintable in the workshop. So I pressed the delete key at the top and deleted the entire sample file. I created a new file under Gunsmith, but where it says base texture, it says albedo texture, and when I upload a new skin, it has a different pattern on it, like POP AWP, rather than the uploaded version. How can I fix this? :D
With the recent updates, there were some changes. Base texture is now the Albedo texture, I don't see how that would affect the outcome of your design though. Are you sure everything exported fine in Blender? Also, make sure that you are choosing the right file path under the Albedo texture. Looks like you may not be using your custom texture?
@@MarkayCS Thinking that there might be a mistake in the second file I made, I reloaded the correct file I tested first, but the same pattern occurs again. There are colors that I chose as the infrastructure, but there is still a pattern on top.
Are you using a custom normal map (option at the bottom of the workshop tools under advanced). It seems as there is a map being added ontop of the other.@@tkgrafit
Go to the right side (Layout mode) and select edit mode, by hitting tab when in layout mode and press A to select all. Then you can go back to texture paint and the individual parts should show up.

The checkerboard is larger, so the skin is just pink with big black fuzzy squares. I made the skin tga using 3dcoat and photoshop, and I put it in the custom file like you said to in the video. I just don't know what the cause could be.
Double check the path and make sure it is correct.
I had the same problem. I copied the whole Folder Path, but you only need what he writes in the little window. hope that helps
@@einmensch3526 thanks man, I got it sorted out. Though I just used the default file location, where the default example color maps, roughness maps, ect were, and dropped my TGA files in there. I'm now getting ready to publish my first skin.
Goodluck! Let us know when you are done and send a link to the workshop, i'll take a look! I am interested in what you came up with :) @@lukebowman7513
how to the gun skin that i have create. see the my gun skin on work shop but i don't know how to put it in my game and use it.
You can't use it in-game. Only if the gun gets accepted into the game by Valve.
Do I have to download blender on their site or can i just get the one on steam?
You download blender on their site
I was looking at this and realized that you draw a bit over the black lines in the texture paint mode? is that okay to do?
I am unsure if i can just draw over that kinda thing and then move on
That's fine. It doesn't really matter :)
might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address. error of page on blender download.... give normal link...!
Works for me, so it either works again, or you have some sort of issue.
Do you know how to make metallic effect on the skin? or how to use the pearlescent mask?
Metallic effects can be achieved using Materials in blender. Pearlescent mask probably has something to do with alpha channels, not too sure about that.
any ideas on how to get vtf convert on mac ios?
Pretty sure there is an option in Blender to export as tga file. Don't know where at, but someone previously told me that it is possible in Blender.
Is VTFEdit not available for Mac?
Great tutorial. I'm not sure if this is obvious because I'm new to cs2/cs:go, but how can I actually get the skin in game and play with it?
You can't use it in-game unfortunately.
@@MarkayCS unfortunate. Still an amazing tutorial though, thank you
@@MarkayCSwhy ? And how can this be achieved?
@@stefansimic6351 If your skin gets accepted into the game you can play with it. If not, you could just remake popular skins and not buy them. Which might be a reason why you can't play with it.
No clue how to do that to be honest.
If i want certain parts of my gun to look like the original no skin version how would i do that? for example the front barrel of the ak-47?
Take a look at my other tutorials, combining those should give you what you are looking for!
Can I use the gun skin I have created in-game?
No, only in the workshop
my skin colors are randomly everywhere when I inspect it and it looks nothing like it did in blender, why?
You have to change the values in the workbench. Things like the offset and that sort of thing.
After painting the gun white my template png isn't showing the weapon parts...just showing as an empty grid image ??
Go to the right side (Layout mode) and select edit mode, by hitting tab when in layout mode and press A to select all. Then you can go back to texture paint and the individual parts should show up.
Hi there! When I go to compile the skin it shows a "stall detected" screen and then the whole thing crashes. Any idea on how to fix that?
Stall detected means that it took too long to render, maybe your pc is having a hard time handling it. Not quite sure how to fix it
If you are still running into this issue, I found a fix. Try running the workshop tools in administrator mode. Go to your cs2 folder then game -> bin -> win64 and right-click csgocfg.exe and run as administrator. This has worked for some people having this issue aswell.
PLEASE HELP ME
I dont know why but my png isnt opening in VTFEdit, i also tried with Tga file and choosed the right resolution but it still didnt work
Do you get any errors?
@@MarkayCS it says error: loading image
Hey ik this might be old but when I try to paint the gun it will not paint it at all and sometimes blender will just crash Im on the paint selected mode help?
You sure you have a image texture? And are you sure you are in texture paint mode?
Also, maybe reinstalling blender will help with the crashes.
yeah i was def in the mode I compared my screen to yours I was in the same mode@@MarkayCS
How can you import a normal map, I used the same method for the file conversion, but when I put it in there was an error.
nvm, I just cannot spell and I names the file bule instead of blue lol
Haha, that happens to me aswell sometimse, glad you got it figured out!
Can other people use it and how do I make it cost real money
It would have to be added to the game by Valve to have other people use it, or earn from it.
