The changing face of Russia 🇷🇺 (the future of life in Siberia)

- This is my home city of Kemerovo, in the central Siberia, Russia. I (Julia) was born and spent the first 18 years of my life here. But in many ways it is now a completely different city to one I knew, and it certainly will be in the near future. Today Matt and I want to explore my home city, the coal mining capital of Russia; from the centre, to the area my Gran lives, and look at how it and Russia more broadly have changed. The main area of change in the city is a large section in the geographic center that is being demolished to make way for an entire new "city centre", this area of Kemerovo, is right by my Auntie's traditional Russian house, that we showed you three years ago (video linked below). Let's check out this area, have a walk around the 'coal mining capital ' of Russia and finally say an emotional goodbye to my beautiful family as we leave Kemerovo, towards Novosibirsk and then out of Russia completely. This video was an emotional one to edit, but i hope you enjoy it!

This Russian city is changing forever (the future of life in Russia / Siberia)
Private
A lot of Russians who can no longer invest abroad are investing in their own country. It is both positive and negative to see a district redeveloped, but I think in time this is for the best.
It is for the best, for everyone. russians should stay in russia . 🇺🇦
That's actually insane seeing people defending these scrawny huts over beautiful new apartment complexes with infrastructure built. I know USA sees apartments differently, mostly because of apartments being built with cheap materials and for specific demographics in USA. But small wooden private houses in Russian cities cost way way less than new apartments, also they produce lots of smoke (people have to burn cheap coal or wood to stay warm), they're a source of wild dogs, toilets in these houses are outside, there are no pavements, no lights on the street, no infrasructure whatsover. It was a bad neighborhood and as a Kemerovo citizen I'm really happy it finally gets taken down. If you want to live on the land you live in the suburbs and don't grow your tomates 3 meters from a highway.
Aww Julia, we love your Gran, too. So hard to leave the ones we love.
welcome back ....this is the reporting that you both deserve respect for ....
You have such a beautiful spirit. Thank you for sharing your life with us.
Guys, you made me cry. Such a nice and heartwarming video!
I'm so excited to see your Auntie's garden in the summer :)
You have a beautiful family. Thank you for another very informative video. Stay safe 🏴🇬🇧🥀
The shots of the golden winter sun are beautiful.
I love you guys! Always positive and all over kind people. So glad i found your vlog❤
Made me cry when you told your gran not to cry while crying yourself! So sad to leave family!! It has always been my dream to visit Russia. I hope to do it before I die!
Just a tip - if you will live forever your chances to visit russia will grow
As always wonderful adventures. My heart was so sore when you were saying goodbye to your grandmother Julia, I know what it feels like. I have had to say goodbye to loved ones far too often. As long as you make a plan to visit again that will give you something to keep you going. Looking forward to the next video. Love as always ❤❤
Always soo hard to leave family , like you I’ve done it many times ❤❤❤
The right translation for "микрорайон" is not "microregion" but rather "self contained block"
автономный блок
No matter where your from, everybody loves their grandma! I wish mine was still here.
Big thanks for sharing the views of my hometown, guys! I never was a big fan of Sibiriacov-Gvardeitsev street and Leninski District, but those shots from the city centre touched my heart :-). Haven’t been there for four years. I don’t miss places but some people. Hope, I’ll be there soon.
Praying for Moscow and Russians. The scenes coming out of Crocus City is some of the most horrific things I’ve seen.
Harriet and I have gotten to a point in our lives that the winters where we are originally from (Boston) have really got to us. We live in Virginia now. Less harsh. Julia, has your family ever considered
moving elsewhere where it's warmer? It's a shame that the efforts that the Siberian people put into maintaining their homes falls on deaf ears. I feel for your family. They deserve better.
But if they are content to being where they are and are at peace with themselves. So be it. Sending you much love❤ from Harriet, Jim and Yuki Richmond, Va. P.S. If you ever win the lotto,
Take care of your family.
This was fun to read as a Boston-born {and recently returned} gal with great-grandparents + great-uncle who lived for a while in Siberia/were born there. I don't like the cold for long, either - and Virginia is a state [pardon, Commonwealth, hehe} that really seems to have the best of so many aspects of the States.
It's a big + small world, isn't it?
@@mariehelena2364 It is ! Come and visit.
А если нет? Заботится не надо?
I only discovered your channel a few months ago ( when I broke my arm! ).i was holed up at home, and started watching u tube, I came across your channel and wow! I loved it! You are both so positive and happy, i absolutely love seeing through your eyes the places you go, feeling like I'm there too. Excited for the next one. X ❤
Julia, it's just so refreshing to see you walking during the evening. Apparently not as dangerous
as in the west walking after dark.
It’s real safe in Russia.. especially at concert halls.
Where in the west are you talking about? Cause I’ve been all over the western hemisphere and have been walking at night and am just fine.
@@brite1217 Philadelphia, Keningston drug street, Bronx, NYC etc etc ect

Glad to see you guys!
Loving the phrase “ every little helps” walking round the depths of Russia and you mention that as if your strolling round Romford 🤣
It's hard to say goodbye to people you love.
Ah, you made me cry when you said goodbye to your Gran. I know the feeling well, as I am from the UK but spent a decade in Australia and New Zealand. I think the goodbyes get harder each time especially the older everyone gets.
So lovely to get a glimpse of the Russian neighbourhood. Thanks for sharing.......Love from Canada 🇨🇦
she is great ...and that statue in the snow ... deserved a little more attention . . .
Hi!I didn't know that we had such guests in Kemerovo.
Great update thanks for the viewing its good to see other parts of the world take care last year ?
And in Siberia in the Kemerovo region the most interesting thing is not the houses but the nature here, Kuznetsk Alatau is the Swiss Alps, therefore Siberian Switzerland. It’s just that the most interesting thing here is the people and nature, not the
Continental climate - wide temperature variation throughout the year. I had a friend from Manitoba Canada, and she said it went from bone-chilling cold in the winter to brutally hot in the summer - and the change could happen rapidly. The ocean buffers temperature swings either way, so when you get far from open water, you get some of the coldest and hottest weather.
It even happens in Nova Scotia, even though we aren't that big! We live in the center, and my parents live on the coast. They complain about the cold at -5, meanwhile we are -25. But then the next day, or later that day, we could be above zero. And in the summer, the ocean breeze keeps them below 20 on a day we are over 30!
Finally we got all the papers and married last week😊 my wife is From Novosibirsk and if all works out with the Visa i am back to Novosibirsk after 3 years. I really can’t wait. I love sibiria, people and everything there😊😊😊 the 3 years I watched your videos that helped me over this time😊😊
i am a photographer living in brazil . . . following you guys ...respect
I was in Kemerova in 1992 on a trip to meet some students. We were visiting Tomsk and teaching at the university and polytechnic for a month. Kemerova was covered in an orange mist. Tomsk is a really nice city.
My condolences to you and the people of Russia..
-34 wow no chance of Matt getting a haircut then lol - thanks for the upload :)
He sure needs one, he looks disgusting.
Awww saying goodbye to your gran made me teared up a little 😢
Fantastic view of Russia, regardless of other factors.
Please tell us about the ‘other factors’.
Kemerovo looks much nicer than Novosibirsk. Krasnoyarsk was my favourite city in Siberia. The city is clean, there's more to do in the city than Novosibirsk, Irkutsk or Ulan Ude and there are some great natural spots in the area to explore. I love how Russians like to paint their buildings in pastel colours. I remember buying manti from a babushka at the Omsk station and they were delicious.
-34 C? Jesus! I hope Matt's nutsack has returned to its normal size by now 😆

Thinking of you guys x
Yep, see you in Uzbekistan in April! Smiling. We are packing already! Is that tea again with lunch? Oh my. Hugs from France.
Unlike other people who leave family members, you have a RUclips channel. They will see you every week.
From Novosibirsk, highway P-256 runs south then east. When it enters the Alta Republic district, the landscape is raw and beautiful. You should think about YouTubing a trip along that highway. You'll need a car with great gas mileage.
I wish America had Women like Юлия . Matthew knows he has a great Woman .
🙄 to your diss on American women. Just cause no one touches you here… they don’t touch you here they’re def not gonna touch you there
I've lived almost my whole life in this city, and it's a shame that I had to move abroad and won't see Kemerovo grow for many years. It may be small, cold and remote, but I've never felt as comfortable living in other places. Maybe in many years when it's over and life goes back to normal it will be just as grand as places like Novosibirsk or Vladivostok. Until then we can only watch it through your videos, Julia. I thank you for showing my home to the rest of the world.
I hope you and your family is safe with everything that is going on now in Russia
Hello MattAnd Julia big hug 🤗 ❤
Did I miss bidding adieu to your sister Lera? We enjoyed your travels à trois.
So sad for you Julia to say goodbye to your Gran
April can be very wet in Uzbekistan - it can rain a lot and be chilly. You should go in late May or early June to truly enjoy it.
We are here now, it’s been very hot and sunny, over 25’c most days 🙌🏼🥰❤️
не думал что у меня в кемерово есть такие ютуберы, я в шоке
Visiting a loved one who has never seen chem trails in the sky
I follow Russia Travels, an English man married to a Russian lady and their family, moved from UK to Orenburg, and even she who was born there can’t believe the changes.
My dad also married to a Russian lady 😂❤️
hi...greetings to meet me😉, I come from Indonesia...I am very happy to see the activities of you 😉
Оооо начало видоса. Гаражи на ФПК.
Where are all people living that has been displaced to build the new housing. Love all your videos.
Take love from Pakistan ❤
How aware of climate change are the folks in Kemerovo? Interesting clip!
The weather there is very much like the weather we get here in the greater Toronto area of Ontario, Canada. What is that rice dish you were eating? It looks delicious and I'd like to try making it.❣
Very nice video. One of my favorite on your channel. Sad that you left kemerovo for few months. Hope you are getting back in few months. Are you going to sotchi to visit your family?
Would be very nice If you could visit Poland again. :)
Greetings from Poland
Love your videos xx
You should come to Oklahoma in the winter. We will have gorgeous 60 degree days followed by -5 degree weather in the span of a few days. Then we will get thunder snow and it will freeze followed by a 40 degree day it’s crazy.
and stick around for some tornadoes
I’ve lived through both Oklahoma and Russia winters. Oklahoma has nothing on Russia’s winter.
Западные комментарии -один негатив о России.С другой стороны это хорошо,им к нам не надо,они слишком агрессивны .
Looks peaceful and functional. Yummy meals :-}
Главарь вампиров из клана Вальтури и... Фильм Сумерки..., живёт в России...)))✌️
❤😊
Removing the small humanly scaled neighborhoods and replacing them with those horrifying typical russian apartment blocks is just crazy. Sadly it seems like a difficult and uninspired place to live
💛💛💛
How do they go about acquiring private people’s property. Do they pay them for the property or do they just take (steal) them. With so much land in the Russian Federation, how do they justify a taking, and destruction of residential housing over doing their building on vacant land? Who has the authority to do this? Is it a governmental bureaucracy or is it some Russian oligarch with political power? What did you do with the bowl of hot water you poured for yourself at the restaurant?
I would assume no different than other countries like America eminent domain .. other factors giving its Russia I would say you technically don't fully own it like in America soo 🤷 also for the greater good government may hold up folks into sweet temporary places etc while building .. buy out or wait till everyone dies off and buyout
Private houses are bought at market value.
I wonder if these big projects will be put on hołd is these uncertain times ?
I would like to see how things turn out in your hometown.
❤❤❤❤
Is that the city there ?🎉
OMG, windows of my chamber filmed in this video
Being Russia a big country they couldnt bild apartments in other place? Why they push the people out of their houses? That is not right
Come our country Bangladesh 😇🇧🇩 nearly India
I lived in a private sector and I’m not happy with the changes.
They forced us to sell our house.
Where are you guys off to next
Roads sings like here in london lol
And how lo g Matt dont see his family?
Let's see if the government actually completes the development. With so much money and energy going to the war effort, I'm not so sure.
❤❤❤❤❤🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺
December 2nd is my birthday
👍🏻
They demo areas where i am to put in freeways 1000s of houses gone! but i live in one if not the fastest growing state in USA... Arizona has always grown more people come to move here then are born in Az.... We get a lot of snow birds during the winter meaning people stay here during winter because their other home is in the snow areas
Только в таджикские кафе не ходите-не поддерживайте терроризм.
I do not understand. It sounds like something from USSR times.
Why are people selling their houses for low prices for some expensive developer project ??
Does not make any sense. They do not own this land ? They built their dachas and houses on municipal land ?
Otherwise it does not make sense, to sell house for price that they can not buy new one in this town.
I’m think (not sure) that all the actual land belongs to the state. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong.
So, 15min City is coming
I'm presuming thatt those high rise buildings will have elevators in them..? Otherwise, they'll hardly be suitable for pensioners.
Why didn't you bring Auntie a gift?
so whta u prefr or which city u like for liveng
19:12 😿
nice video
After a house is torn down where are they putting the people who lived in it?
Перед сносом расселяют, дают равно ценное жилье.
I love your videos, however, why do you never address the elephant in the room?
Talking just for talking-sake
geo engineering skies 4 minutes 51
How many dead Russian soldiers are from your city?
Important questioin!!! What kind of a cap on the head of your husband?
Я могу и по-русски. Важный вопрос. Очень важный. Расскажите, какую шапку носит вас муж? Я хочу купить такую же.
So just like the democrats want in America , demolishing the suburbs and building small apartments , this is currently happening in Russia . Is this eliminating private property ? Great video as usual
Sounds like 15 minutes City planes
it is not live
Russia is Back!
