Guys a quick tip. I manage a Benjamin Moore store and here is a good tip on getting a good deal. " Just be nice and simply ask if you can get contractor price because you'll be buying more" . I give people good prices all the time just for simply asking or being nice and friendly.
Aura is amazing. I use it on my kitchen chairs. They are black. When they get scratched or dinged I just do touch ups and you can’t see any brush strokes.
@First Last my guess is that Ronald doesn’t make the rules and its nice of him to pass this on... also I’m sure they give pros discounts so they’ll come back.......instead of being bothered by the dude in front of you- you should’ve said the same thing ....
Love Benjamin Moore worth every cent! Won't use nothing else! My entire home is painted with Benjamin Moore 18 years later I am now starting to paint some rooms, I have washed walls and lightly scrubbed over years no issues. You get what you pay for, highly recommended this paint can't believe 18 years later my paint still looks amazing.
As I DIYer, I've painted a dozen house interiors over my life, and Regal is my favorite so far. Low mess, great coverage, looks great. Worth the $$ IMO.
As an interior painter, Regal Select is my hands down favorite wall paint! It has excellent coverage and has a beautiful finish. Definitely worth the price!❤❤❤
Regal is my favorite paint to use you can’t beat the way it covers l, doesn’t splatter and levels out like nothing else. I typically use this interior but have used the regal exterior plenty as well and it is such a great paint
Thanks for this, we've used Benjamin Moore for years and love the finish as well as the coverage. We purchased BM regal for our son's new home and helped him paint it. Love BM and we'll be using it throughout our whole home this year other than our bathrooms where we'll be using Aura. I feel it's great value for money not only in quality but also time spent painting is cut down dramatically due to the quality of this paint.
Am using it tonight. Eggshell. It’s the best paint. Don’t care what it costs. No splatter, good coverage. Walls were BM Forest Floor which is very dark and have switched after 10 years to Moonshine which is in white collection. 2 coats covered it
Using Regal Select now in Colonial Williamsburg colors. Great, user friendly paint. Everything you said is absolutely accurate. I used some Aura for a front door and did not like it as much. I'm going to try some Ben for comparison to save some money, but Regal Select is fantastic.
It was time to paint over dark hunter green in the livingroom/diningroom. Everyone said I would need 2-3 coats. But....1 coat of light beige Benjamin Moore's paint did it. I have been a fan ever since! Worth ever dollar.
I typically use Aura but used Regal in bathroom and accent wall in living room and it was easy to apply. Love the colours and it’s supper durable. Highly recommend it.❤️
I’ve been lucky enough to find Regal on the oops paint shelf on several occasions. 9/gallon. If I find a neutral oops paint in a good brand, I’m buying it. Every time.
I just did my kitchen in Regal Eggshell Swiss Coffee. I don't know that much about paint and went over it with my paint shop and we felt it was the best choice. I'm happy with results so can't see not using it. As an amateur painter the coverage was good. I was going over lilac and found two coats perfect.
Regal Select is my go to paint for walls, Matte finish. Used Behr in apartments for years and I think the extra cost is definitely worth it but my only complaint is that it will chip from time to time. But my walls take a beating from my kids.
We only use BM Regal, love the coverage, use eggshell for most rooms. We are planning to paint outside of our home, wood board and batten, will use BM as well.
Thank you for all your videos. You are helping me to narrow down the paints I want to consider. I have a little guy who looooves painted walls. So I need a properly tested washable paint. I wonder if you could do a video testing different vendors and lines in the way they handle different stains and scuffs. Thanks
I had a weird experience where the Regal select performed terribly with a brush , I got more on the drop cloths than the wall . When I switched to a roller it went from terrible to the best paint I have ever used . I am an experienced painter but this is my first time using Regal . The cheaper Ben I got for the trim performed great with a brush.
I tried Behr marquee on furniture; console shoe cabinets. First coat great but the second & third not so great. Then went to Benjamin Moore & they recommended the ben. instead of the regal which I intended to buy. Loved it. But for walls & trim I will use regal. Thanks to you! Excellent video!
After years of using paint from The Big Orange Box, I am using Regal Select for my current home, and I will never go back. I'm not as young as I once was, and can no longer spend 8 hours a day painting. The RS lets me do half a wall one day, the other half a week later, and you can't tell. The coverage is amazing. I'm doing my living room, dining room, and a tiny bedroom from the same one gallon ... I'll probably have extra. But still, I'd need at least twice as much of my former paint to do the job. Now if I could just find an edger tool I could attach to an extension pole so I could paint my double height stairwell ...
Good video. Just did a playroom and hallway in regal select pearl (white diamond). Outstanding paint. Great coverage, so pretty forgiving for the non-pro homeowner. I was a little concerned rolling a (sort of) glossy finish, but we cant see a single roll mark or line. A bit more pricey, but worth it in my view.
Did my whole home with it, its a great product however i noticed a pigment dispersion issue and moreover it dries super fast you better have nothign in your way and that pressure takes the enjoyment out of painting, i wonder if Aura has even a bit more open time.
I used behr paint for my bedroom and loved it. The can came with a pour spout and one coat was sufficient, no splatter etc. because of reviews I tried Benjamin Moore regal and paid $25 extra. The paint splattered, required multiple coats and frustrated me. I’ll be sticking with behr from now on.
There are a lot of factors that could cause this. Including the color, sheen, quality, age, and # of layers of paint you're painting over, and the quality, color, and sheen you're putting on. Behr makes decent paint for the price, but apples to apples Regal Select is a step above anything Behr offers.
VOC levels were increased because they got rid of the Classic line and people loved the flat and semi gloss. They pretty much merged the products to keep people happy.
Would Regal do well switching from beige to orange without bleed through? I’m having to prime the whole house because Behr Dynasty still bleeds through after 2 coats. And, would Regal be fine to paint over minor patches where I used drywall mud to fill nail holes?
Hey. Unfortunately the contractor I picked strongly prefers Sherwin. We have a running joke I'm trying to get him to use regal select but they are gonna convince me of sherwin. But they have 1000's of houses and have been blowing my expectations. Do you have a paint from Sherwin you prefer more ? Which paint from Sherwin is regal select suppose to compare too? I usually love this paint…just bought a new gallon to tackle my living room but I don’t see the self leveling….I have painted for years I have great brushes and rollers I just finished my cutting and I’m definitely not very happy..:thoughts???
best paint a pro can use for repaints. for new constructions just go with cheapo cheap water+flower unless your getting paid 15-20k+ for a 2-3k sq foot home
I always use Benjamin Moore but I am considering the Behr Dynasty. I am painting my film studio black and am considering the change because of price. Have you any experience with the Dynasty paint vs the regal?
I’m using Dynasty and not impressed. Light beige walls to a deep orange. It still shows hints of the old colour after 2 coats. This means I need to prime everything, which is more expensive than going to BM.
it’s awesome stuff However, one thing I would caution people about is how fast it dries; if you get any runs, drips, errors and you dot catch them in time, you may have to re-sand and redo that area; This paint starts to dry real fast and gets sticky to roll after just a little while and I have not felt a need to prime either; covers almost in one coat if you prep right
Yes. I started using the Matte finish and had to cease for a moment. A skin developed quickly. I ran out and picked up some floetrol wet edge extender. My advice would be to grab a quart of that and add it anyway to be safe. I’m not a painter I do all my painting around the house.
Regal Select. The stuff just levels beautifully. Pricey, but when you think about having to paint every 5-7 years - mileage for this paint brand is going to out perform the paints in the big box stores.
not a fan of aura bath and spa after using it in a bathroom but it was a dark navy blue and marked easy with my clean hands and feels gritty. the same color in aura matte worked better harder smoother finish ill prob just use that for bathroom and kitchens from now on
Hi- i recently just repainted certain areas of my home , the walls, trim and doors using the ben line and its awful. especially for the trim and doors. i had a professional paint it and still with sanding, primer and 2 coats even 3 it looks awful. altered finishes, where it looked matte in patches when used semi gloss, excessive brush strokes , horrible drag, tacky, it did not have a smooth finish. every imperfection stands out. it even bubbled in some areas. i purchased the paint for the painter to use who said the ben line should be more than adequate. i have spent double on the paint and labor and im very frustrated. The ben line is supposed to be pretty good, its not a cheap paint. Its been suggested to use either the regal or aura. the trim, baseboards and doors are my biggest concern and afraid of running into the same problems. is regal or aura going to make a difference? do you have any suggestions or recommendations?
I used Benjamin Moore many years ago and it worked much better than Behr paint. I am willing to pay a higher amount for a better quality. I had a painter in my home 3 years ago and I do not like the paint they used.
I worked for Sherwin Williams for 13 years and Benjamin Moore is far superior, Gennex colorant makes Ben even better ,don't care whose paint you buy ,always put two coats.
How is Regal Select compared to Sherwin-Williams Emerald? I've been using Emerald and love it, but never tried BM paints since the SW store is very close to me.
You'll be good with Regal in bathrooms. If you're worried about moisture, go with a shinier finish to improve washability, and ALWAYS run the fan during showers to circulate the air. You're even better off with Aura Bath and Spa due to it's built-in moisture and mildew resistance.
I use Aura for all my interior jobs unless the customer specs Sherwin Williams products. Using Aura saves enough labor to pay for the price difference.
@@newenglandsfinestmc I've used all those products and I have reached the conclision that Aura is worth the higher price. Most of my jobs are done by bid and the faster I complete the job the more money I make. Aura covers better and touches up with less flashing. For a 3,000 square foot house I spend $120 more for Aura than I would for Regal. I only need to save 2 hours labor to pay for that. The Ben line is absolute garbage. If the homeowner bought the paint and wants me to apply it I turn down the job. I used to charge more to use lower quality paint but now I don't even want to use it.
Regal Select is for people who are too cheap to buy Aura. I tried to save money on a few jobs by using Regal. It ended up costing me more because of labor. Aura is a superior paint.
Do you have any tips for matching paint. Specifically when it’s been years since you painted and your can doesn’t have the label that indicated the color, gloss, etc...?
Bring a small sample of your wall to the paint store (professional paint store, not big box store) and say "match this for me please!". Good places to get a sample is a removable closet shelf, cut out a small patch behind an electrical outlet (not all the way through the wall, just the top cardboard of the drywall), cut out a patch behind fridge or stove (to be later filled), in a closet, etc. You get the idea, bring a sample to the pros and let them do the work for you. Another method is google "Nix Mini 2", it is a device that can color match your color to major paint brands although it isn't always perfect, some colors it gets dead on, others not so much.
Yes, first int. / ext. Can they take a sample from the side. From then unless there is paint inside of the can he can make a sample of. Then they will take a measurement with their Spectrometer and if they KNOW what they are doing. Edit those measurements to either come spot on. Or underneath the color then a drop or I believe down to a 1/16 until they hit the right color and sheen. Hope that helps
Don’t let the store talk you into using the semi gloss on door or large surfaces. Even with extender it dries so fast and doesn’t flow. It is flashing and doesn’t level nice. For trim it’s ok. I should have stuck with pro classic.
Regal select is their best paint. Shop around. Some sellers sell it at bottom line price. If you are friendly they may even give you a contractor discount. I liked it better than Aura . Aura was too flinky . You need a pros touch with it. Regal puts anything in home depot to shame for the same price Sherwin's duration cracked any every single joint on my moulding and wouldn't take my call to honor it. Benjamin moore did not for the same profile. Oh and it has crazy good coverage .
Aura is easy to use I'm not a pro. With aura you cut in first and allow it to dry. Then roll no back rolling necessary apply and move on. I have used both.
duration did not hold color for me. i used a mid tone grey that i purposely got for the purple undertone (grey always has an undertone) and a year later the red from the undertone was gone and the undertone prominent was green. -- Also Duration, the same color in different finishes was waaaay different.
@@SuperHowyalikemenow Difficult to use Aura needs to be applied differently. You do your brush work first and allow it to dry only takes an hour then roll. You do not back roll Aura. It's more forgiving than people make it out to be.
Disagree on the easy to use for Regal Select. I just painted a wall with a southern exposure and the matte finish is a nightmare. Still cannot get it to roll without horrible roller overlap lines. On a wall with little "long lighting" you probably won't notice it. On one like this with a long light exposure it looks like "rhymes with sit" Seems to flash almost instantly and gives horrible overlap lines. Wet edge has a 10 second life, after that you are screwed. Does not play well backrolling at all. I actually hate the stuff but have 2 more overpriced gallons to try again. Going to use BM extender tomorrow and try to fix it but really hate this wall, looks like a blind idiot painted it and I have been painting for years. Very thick paint, feels like good ol boy truck bedliner paint. They should have Bill Cosby as the spokesperson, like painting with pudding. 2 coats and still not covering. Light orange peel wall texture and the paint just skips over the low spots. Probably going back to Dunn Edwards after this. Extremely disappointed barely describes how I feel. I only tried BM Regal Select it beccause it is the fashion statement of all the You Tube "interior designers" If I didn't care about getting banned I would use a lot of 4 letter words to describe the experience.....just like I did watching it dry to a cluster truck today. Fun fact: BM is exactly what I got on my wall using BM paint. I could have just slapped the wall with my colon and got a better finish. I officially hate BM. On a better note, your videos are great, thank you for the effort.

It’s my go to for any interior project. Flat - ceilings
Eggshell - walls
Pearl - trim
The pearl finish is pretty sweet.
The only difference here is that I like to use the Satin Impervo on the trim. Outside of that, it's Regal Select for everything else.
Try Cabinet Coat on trim. Regal Select is a wall paint. The Pearl finish cleans up nice, but still isn't durable enough for trim long-term.

@@autohelix Ok- thanks- have you tried Ben?
@@SuperHowyalikemenow Never tried Ben but after using Aura I'm definitely not going to use anything else for walls.
Regal Select is for people who are too cheap to buy Aura. I tried to save money on a few jobs by using Regal. It ended up costing me more because of labor. Aura is a superior paint.
lol- douchey answer..no specifics or help here....
That's an honest answer I have used both. Aura is the best. Aura offers the best touch ups of any paint on the market.
Different price points. Can't go wrong with either. Both outperform the competitors.
I’m a Benjamin Moore girl.
Is this paint durable for exterior.
Only if you're specifically using 'Regal Select Exterior'. The ones I showed in this video are designed for interior use. Hope this helps!
@@thepaintpeople What’s your take on the High Build vs Moorlife?
@@lecoursiersf high build is the updated version of Moore life,Mooregard, and Mooreglow so now rated as superior
Sorry it didn't work out for you Don, but thanks for your feedback.
I think your flat Con is going to go away. BM is in the process of reformulating it, which is why some stores went out of stock on it for a bit.
It's a good paint
Ok
ok
I USE AURA MATTE FOR BATHROOM IT IS BEAUTIFUL😂😂😂😂❤❤
For a minute I thought it qas $340 a gallon! Lol 😆
I laugh when I see the "Matte" finish, and "flat" finish lmao, Matte is french for flat....
Matte is a washable flat. That’s the difference.
@@Californians_go_home I know what it is, doesnt change what I said, "Matte" is just the french word for flat.
James...you never told us the price.
The price varies across North America.
LOL I know but a price average would have been helpful.@@thepaintpeople
just dont use the flat its crap
Regal select is their best paint. Shop around. Some sellers sell it at bottom line price. If you are friendly they may even give you a contractor discount.
I liked it better than Aura . Aura was too flinky . You need a pros touch with it. Regal puts anything in home depot to shame for the same price
Sherwin's duration cracked any every single joint on my moulding and wouldn't take my call to honor it. Benjamin moore did not for the same profile.
Oh and it has crazy good coverage .
Regal is even better than emerald in my opinion I have used both many many times regal takes the cake
-- Also Duration, the same color in different finishes was waaaay different.
thanks, usefull inof here---(but, what is fkinly..)? Thanks
@@SuperHowyalikemenow Difficult to use Aura needs to be applied differently. You do your brush work first and allow it to dry only takes an hour then roll. You do not back roll Aura. It's more forgiving than people make it out to be.
It's not one of the best paints on the market; Regal is the best paint.
You might as well just go with the aura cuz Regal select kind of sucks
Disagree on the easy to use for Regal Select. I just painted a wall with a southern exposure and the matte finish is a nightmare. Still cannot get it to roll without horrible roller overlap lines. On a wall with little "long lighting" you probably won't notice it. On one like this with a long light exposure it looks like "rhymes with sit"
Seems to flash almost instantly and gives horrible overlap lines.
I only tried BM Regal Select it beccause it is the fashion statement of all the You Tube "interior designers"
If I didn't care about getting banned I would use a lot of 4 letter words to describe the experience.....just like I did watching it dry to a cluster truck today. Fun fact: BM is exactly what I got on my wall using BM paint. I could have just slapped the wall with my colon and got a better finish. I officially hate BM.
On a better note, your videos are great, thank you for the effort.
We love Behr Marquee better.
It's a fantastic product, no doubt.
