The beauty in the opening scene was an East German refugee actress named Erika Peters, who married a wealthy Hollywood haute couture tailor named Sy Devore in 1964. He died within two years, leaving her a wealthy and beautiful young widow. Nothing is known of her life after these events in 1966. Quite a mystery in itself, perhaps even a thriller hidden in there somewhere.😉
This was all before my time but I love these old horror tales! Boris Karloff was a classic in himself! Marion Ross- still pretty today from "Happy Days" of course. Plus Lloyd Bochner was also great in the Twilight Zone episode "To Serve Man" which was very memorable! Thanks for the upload. ❤❤
Karloff portrayal of Frankenstein along with the make-up still scares me(can't 😱 look even at pictures. "To Serve Man " was an excellent Twilight Zone.
At 19:49 It's 1961, and Lloyd Bochner receives a kiss on the cheek and toasts Marion Ross with the words... "happy days." They both were obviously unaware of the role that would make Marion a house hold name, that of "Marion Cunningham" in the sitcom Happy Days which ran from 1974 to 1984 . Somewhat prophetic don't you think?
I was 6 years old when this episode premiered. Seeing the skeletal hands around the girl's throat terrified me, but I still wanted to watch the show. However, it was a school night and my mom made me go to bed. What a memory... Thanks for a fantastic channel.
LOVED this one !!! I was 8 yrs old so I don't think I saw it then but watched reruns of Thriller a few yrs later. Henry Danielle always scared the bejesus out of me. Fabulous actor and always so sinister. Loved Lloyd Bochner, too. A young Marion Ross and the Happy Days toast was freaky as all hell. lol I know what I'll be binging on tonight and thankful for it. :o)

Could have been made into a 90 minute movie. And today this wonderful episode might be turned into a series,at least 6 times and hour. Keep your hands off it!
Fred hears a noise and goes downstairs, finding Kay... murdered! Fred chases Harry/Cagliostro upstairs into the bedroom. They have a big fight, and *the mirror breaks*! Harry/Cagliostro dies... and Harry’s soul is trapped with Yvette in the mirror world forever!
Harry sadly is trapped in the mirror for eternity yet with the beautiful French women so a twisted ending as stated in the beginning with the hand of death 💀 eternal
I just happened upon your channel by chance, and it was an old, old, show I remembered watching as a kid. One of the scariest episodes i watched was called " Pidgeons From Hell ! " This terrified me for years ! Yeah, I knew it was only makeup, actors and actresses, creepy music, and hosted by the Master of The Macabre- Boris Karloff, but I liked this show ! Thanks for resurrecting this moldie, oldie, from TVs forgotten series crypt. Are you planning on doing all of them or just some of them ? Saw something similar to this on Night Gallery years later, where a pawnshop buys an odd mirror painted over, and his partner buys him out. Later, intrigued by the painted mirror, he begins scraping the paint off and discovers another world! Later, the spoiled-rotten partners dog chases a ball into the mirror with the wicked owner chasing after it. Her partner hurriedly repaints the mirror just as the monster starts chasing the dog and lady back to the portal entrance. I think it was called " Painted Mirror / Doorway to Doom /Nightmare ? "
Lloyd Bochner’s most memorable film is The Lonely Lady. Really must be seen to be believed. And of course, Cecil Colby on Dynasty. Marion Ross is beautiful in Colossus: The Forbin Project and Brooklyn Bridge.
THRILLER is a television classic. There really was--I think--a self styled sorcerer or magician named Cagliostro. I believe that he got into trouble with the Inquisition, and died in one of their prisons.

Boris Karloff:- Born William Henry Pratt: 1887-1969: Boris was of mixed race Indo/English. His parents were both of Indian ancestry. Both his parents died after Boris was born: he was reared by his 9 siblings: most of them, nearly all of them, entered their careers into the British Government's Consular Service: Having lived and acted for many years in America, he returned in 1959 to live back in England. He was married 6 times: resulting with only one child : Sara Karloff: b: 1938: He remained married to his 6th wife: Evelyn Helmore for 23 years until his death: age 81 from pneumonia: He was cremated in Guilford Crematorium, Godalming: Surrey:
Thank you! Very interesting. He was also related to Anna Leonowens (also of Indian descent ) who inspired “The King and I”. I love the way he managed to humanize even the terrifying Frankenstein’s monster.
Boris Karloff mother’s aunt was Anna Leonowens who wrote an account of her experiences as a governess at the court of the King of Siam and her story was fictionalised in the novel “Anna and the King of Siam” by Margaret Landon. Boris Karloff was dark skinned and was at least a quarter Indian.
I saw this on its first rerun in the summer of 1961; the opening (with David Frankham turning into a skeleton) scared the CRAP out of me (I was 10). Erika Peters (opening scene) played the first wife of Guy Rolfe in "Mr Sardonicus" (also filmed in '61). Lots of great stuff in this episode. Too bad that Jack Mullaney's "You killed my sister" (at the climatic moment) is so unbelievably weak. And yes, the ending is bizarre, since it leaves the fate of the real Lloyd Bochner character totally unresolved. The simple but excellent effect at the end of Bochner's face turning into a skull was really stunning back on TV in '61. LR
Crummy ending. So what happened to the real Langton and the girl? Are they still trapped in the room? Did they die when the mirror was broken? Enquiring minds want to know.
@@zzzbbbooo No epilogue/monologue from Karloff stating how they were indeed freed from the mirror, wife was not dead, after all, and to keep with the TV code that all bad guys get their just punishment, Karloff saying that the Count is indeed resting---on the coals of Hell.
If he died his spells were broken . Yet Harry would be able to return to his body , the French beautiful lady finally could die sadly his fiancé & Harry could need a very good lawyer
Well, apparently, since there is no explanation of what happened to Harry and Yvette, we have to assume both escaped the mirror with Harry emerging in the Twilight Zone and ultimately ending up as some alien's dinner. Yvette came out in Milwaukee, married a hardware store owner named Cunningham and had some Happy Days with her hubby, son Ritchie and daughter Joanie.
My same thoughts also, l was hoping to find out if the shattered mirror would release those imprisoned within it. Also wondering what happened to the other people that Cagliostro deceived; it seems that they should have been in the mirror as well.
The Mirror World is another great idea that costs nothing (but talent) to film. The “sells it shot” where Harry’s soul detaches from his body and walks into the mirror is done with two simple shots. One is a double exposure with the camera locked down and Harry sitting in the chair, then a shot of harry getting up and walking away from the chair. Marry them and you have one Harry sitting as a translucent Harry gets up and walks away from his sitting self. The other shot is a little more complicated, but still not a budget buster. We see Harry *walk into the mirror* and disappear from this side as he exists only in the other side! All one shot. Of course, this is a $1.98 special effect where the mirror is just a frame with the “mirror world” on the other side. Harry just walks up to the frame, steps over it, and continues walking on the other side where Yvette is. Then he turns and looks out at a shot of his body in that chair. The Marx Brothers did a more complicated version of this in DUCK SOUP for laughs. When the mirror world disappeared, they just put a mirror in that frame! Though they didn’t do this for the episode, if you wanted to do this now I’d get a semi silvered mirror (two way mirror) and you could make a real reflection fade out into the mirror world without any cuts at all. (It looks like they might have done this in the episode, but the fade is too quick.) If you are doing a low budget movie you have to use much more imagination... that’s what you have instead of money. Same was true in television when this episode was made. The echo scene of the police coming to talk to Robert in 1910 Paris and later Harry in present day America is great because we know the outcome of the Robert scene and fear that this will be the outcome for Harry as well. Things like this work in any genre and create suspense and dread... at no cost.
I love how sickly twisted the old films and shows were. Modern day hasn't really done much. Happy to be a geezer.
What an ending!

Lloyd Bochner was in a couple of episodes of "The Golden Girls". In one episode, he played a hairstylist. In the other, he played an actor.
That opening with the murder of the girl by the possessed "magician" was truly a THRILLER !!
Every time the name of the show "Thriller" comes onto the screen with those lines going every which way it reminds me of Eddie Van Halen's guitars 💔🎸
23:15. I see Yvette who died in France in the 1700s has learned 20th Century English while she was living in the mirror.
