Hiya mate, I’ve just took on a job on the side for some family looking to make a U shaped retaining wall in the back garden to fill in and level with soil , the wall needs to meet the slab closest to house but it’s only gonna be a course or 2 to reach there but will be 10 ish courses at the back what would be the best way for me to course it thru should I do a stepped trench would that be the easiest way to go ahead ?

It’s very difficult for me to say without seeing pictures but stepped trench/footings sounds sensible as long as the ground allows you to do that. Just make sure if you do go for a stepped trench that when you concrete the concrete steps need to overlap each other the thickness of the concrete as a minimum

    Good vid buddy.
How does this compare to one of you your early vids where you block up a doorway and put those individual ties in?

Thanks! I do use those individual ties sometimes but they are a pain as you have to have the drill out all the time - at least with this track system its 5 holes then the drill can go away so you can do it all ready before you even start your masonry work. I think these track systems are stronger too, they hold masonry work so well when you try and take a wall down!

@@SamDaviesBuilder thanks for the reply mate
I’m guessing the trade off is they’re more expensive than the individual ties? I think I’ll go with the one in this vid when it comes to it then.
Progress has ground to a halt lately. This weather is winding me right up. It surely has to break in the next few weeks 🤬

@@MarcusT86 I’d say the method in this video is cheaper than screw in ties, it’s surprising how expensive screw in ties are!
Ahh the weather is really getting to me, progress is painfully slow on my jobs. Not had a full 5 days on one job for a long time!

Hey Sam thanks for that.....what would you suggest for a small porch wall maybe 5 courses high..... would you suggest putting in a dpc line against the house wall where it bridges the house DPC?

Is this a cavity wall you are building? Or just single skin? If you have a cavity wall you’d usually put in a vertical DPC in the cavity but putting in a DPC line in against the house wall isn’t something I’d do. You could use liquid DPC (black jack) to paint onto any bits you were worried it might track damp up

Hi Sam its a single brick .....thanks for your advice re the dpc....I will source some liquid dpc...cheers mate and thanks for the vids as always
